    update:

Batman Year 100 HC (7) - Gritty tale that focuses more on the "ideal" than the "man". Liked this well enough, the other stories were decent too.

Batman Arkham Asylum HC (~3) - Loved the tone McKean set with his art. Story was good as well, though i felt batman was written a little out of character at times*. Haven't read Morrison's script yet, but looking forward to more incite into his story.

Outcast vol. 2 TP (6) - Eerie series by Kirkman. Seems like the story was written for TV, which i guess is why is was optioned, lol.

    1033 + 16 = 1049 for the year

*Morrison stated in his notes he wrote batman as a critique of the way he was being portrayed at the time ('80s) so obviously that was what he was going for lol

Reposting, with new total as of 10 November

EDIT: Reposted below on same page.

    Total: 1376
NOTE: When the numbers get this high, I'm having trouble getting an exact count. My count seems to vary by a few issues each time I do it. So every time I post (about every two weeks) I try to do a recount, and this is the latest value I have. It might be 1373 though.

    Lando #1-5
Decent Star Wars spinoff with an all-star creative team, giving pathos to a Star Wars supporting character.

Injustice Year Two #1-12/ Annual 1, Injustice Year Three #1-12/ Annual 1, Injustice Year Four #1-12
There's slight diminishing returns on the book, and sometimes to an interesting fight scene is a bit too obvious, but it remains a satisfying series about things going very bad with the DC heroes.

    Wolf Moon #1-6
The combination of werewolves and possession makes for a solid creepy horror comic.

Batman and the Mad Monk #1-6
Kinda padded Year One Matt Wagner story. Not bad, but that's as far as compliments go.

    Wolverine #119-122
Interesting deathtrap/ challenge for Wolverine by Warren Ellis and Leinil Francis Yu.

Startling Stories: Thing: Night Falls on Yancy Street #1-4
Ben Grimm, from the tail end of the Lee/ Kirby era, falls into a noir. Excellent mini.

    Hellboy Volume 3 (5 Issues)
Solid anthology. "The Corpse" is a standout. Builds nicely on the mythos.

    Magnus Robot Fighter (Valiant) #1-8
I figured I'll reread the Unity crossover, but before that I'll check out earlier Valiant issues. This builds nicely on the Russ Manning series, as the hero has a crisis of conscience in a fully-realized world.

Solar: Man of the Atom #1-11

Possibly the high point of Valiant comics, as an ordinary man struggles with the power of the God, and screws up. Also includes some excellent worldbuilding.

And 40 issues of Spider-Man comics...
    Marvel Team-Up #41-47/ Marvel Two-in-One #17
    Spider-Gwen #1-5
    Spider-Verse #1-5
    Spider-Man: The Hobgoblin Lives #1-3
    Web of Spider-Man #31-32/ Amazing Spider-Man #293-294/ Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132
    Spectacular Spider-Man #134-136
    Spider-Man #1-5
    Amazing Spider-Man #296-300

    Total So Far: 1676 Issues

Best of the Batch: Kraven's Last Hunt
    Sincerely,

lol yeah, every time I update I count at least twice (once for my new batch, and once for the total), and hopefully old total + new batch comes to the same number as just counting the new total. It doesn't always. I think when I read the same issue more than once in a year, or when books are small and don't count for whole issues, messes up the count sometimes.

    update:

Irredeemable HC vol 1 (8) - Waid really touches on some interesting concepts in this first volume. i can definitely sympathize with the antagonist, to an extent.

Sixth Gun HC vol 3 (12) - This volume steers more towards the spiritual element, maintaining its quality along the way. More is revealed about the six.

Injection TP vol 1 (5) - More questions than answers for the most part. Although it started to come together towards the end. Interested enough for vol 2.

Low TP vol 2 (4)- One of my favorite series right now. Tocchini's art is brilliant. The last issue was written a little heavy handed, but excited nonetheless for the next chapter.

Wytches TP vol 1 (6) - These were actually some of the last single issues i bought before i gave up monthlies. I never finished the arc then, and it read so much better in trade. I guess most stories do nowadays though.

    1049 + 35 = 1084 for the year

Hitman 1997 Annual, Htman/ Lobo: That Stupid Bastich: Always happy to see more of the series.

Elephantman #1-35, 4.5, 9.5: A bit padded, but artistically inventive. Interesting fully realized mythos.

Hellboy: Box Full of Evil #1-2/ Hellboy: Conqueror Worm #1-4:

Abe Sapien: Drums of the Dead: Didn't care for this as much. Although "Heads" is great.

Ruse #1-6: Mark Waid's combination of Sherlock Holmes and fantasy. Fun series. Interesting dynamic.

DC Comics Presents #52/59: The first appearances of Ambush Bug. His return is a significant improvement, as he wrecks havoc on Superman and some loser superheroes.

Sandman Presents The Morningstar Option #1-3: The pilot for Lucifer. He comes across a lot like Constantine here, although it's an interesting story with a nasty twist.

Higher Earth #1-9: Convoluted series about alternate realities. Has promise but doesn't reach it.

Drax the Destroyer #1-4: Solid Annihilation prologue as aliens cause trouble for residents of Alaska. The human POV is compelling.

Incredible Hulk #347-355/ Fantastic Four #420: The Joe Fixit Hulk provides an interesting chance of pace for the series. The highlights are his encounters with other Marvel heroes.

BRPD: Hollow Earth #1-3: Succeeds at demonstrating that Hellboy's allies can make for an interesting team book, even if it's among the weaker Mignolaverse efforts.

BRPD: The Soul of Venice and Other Stories (4 Issues): Decent anthology in the Hellboy world.

BRPD: Plague of Frogs #1-5: Possibly the best Mignolaverse story I've read. Guy Davis is a fantastic fit for the series, which takes some of the best things about Hellboy (weird monsters, excellent storytelling) but adds some interesting stakes and revelations.

Irredeemable #1-12: Mark Waid's take on the flawed superheroes genre. A revelation.

Wednesday Comics #1-12: Not all the stories are great, but there's a terrific batting average for the anthology, which has great work by all-stars, and some excellent contributions by writers and artists I'm not as familiar with. I got the hardcover for 25 dollars, and am very happy with it.

    And some Spider-Man comics.
    Spider-Woman (2014) #5-10
    Spider-Island #1-5
    Web of Spider-Man #37-44

    Total So Far: 1821

Best of the batch: BRPD- Plague of Frogs

Elephantmen #36-67/ Man and Elephantman/ Elephantmen Shots: Some of the issues are a little sparse, and there are some subplots I don't care for, but these stories do a good job of exploring a unique and fully realized fictional world.

Irredeemable #13-37/ Special: Still an unexpected work from that nice Mark Waid. Solid exploration of world where superheroes are screwed up.

Incorruptible #1-30: Solid companion series to Irredeemable. Art's usually not as impressive, but the characters and action are pretty good.

BRPD: The Dead #1-5/ Black Flame #1-6/ The Universal Machine #1-5/ Garden of Souls #1-5: Some of the A-plots aren't as interesting, although it is great to see the cast dealing with the consequences of stories, which we haven't seen before in earlier volumes (or in Hellboy, for that matter.)

The Adventures of Barry Ween Boy Genius Monkey Tales #1-3: Hilarious one-offs that maintain a sense of action and poignancy. Roxie is probably one of my favorite comic characters to only appear in two issues.

Punisher (MAX) #25-30: The Slavers arc. The subject matter is meaningful, and that likely elevates the story, but it also lives up to the promise of the Punisher getting really pissed off.

Magnus Robot Fighter (Valiant) #9-14: More of Magnus trying to figure out right and wrong in the far future. It's a decent series.

Total So Far: 1949 (66 left in my goal of 2015 issues)

Best of the Batch: Punisher (MAX)
    Sincerely,

    update:

Archer & Armstrong HC vol. 1 (14) - decent buddy romp with splashes of historical context added to the mix, but my least favorite of the Valiant titles i've tried out so far. Still plan on getting vol. 2 when it's released in a couple weeks.

slow week due to the holidays. will hopefully catch up on some more before the end of the year. was going to shoot for 1500, but that's not gonna happen, maybe 1300?

    1084 + 14 = 1098

is that sarcasm? sorry sometimes can't tell in writing and I know some folks around here have issues with Waid but I always thought he seems like a nice guy. Loved Irredeemable, especially the ending, didn't expect it to be so uplifting after everything that happened in the series.

NOTE: When the numbers get this high, I'm having trouble getting an exact count. My count seems to vary by a few issues each time I do it. But this is my best count right now. I'll just have to do a full, detailed count when the year is out.

I plan to do a detailed report, explaining how I get my numbers, what I've read, what I plan to keep reading, etc. when the year is out.

I hope that we'll do this in 2016 as well!!

It was about his reputation as a writer rather than anything to do with him as a person (I certainly don't have a negative impression of him on that front). While his work had generally been more complex than he's given credit for, he has a reputation as almost old-fashioned Silver Age ethos writer, and Irredeemable is a contrast to that. It'd be like if Pixar did something with Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
