You can do it! Just read stuff that's not so wordy and flows well.

    update:

Dark Knight Saga HC (7) - First time reading this and really enjoyed it. Returns really holds up well considering its age, and Strikes Again wasn't nearly the stinker some say. In fact, even though miller definitely ratchets up the wacky a few notches, the overall theme/story felt like a logical continuation of the original. And talk about dense! Usually sticking to modern books, it felt like i read a small omni lol. In a good way, not the silver age or clarmontian way of over-narrating everything

Multiversity HC (10) - Really enjoyed this, and look forward to reading through it again soon to soak it all in. I already flipped back through a few issues to clear up some things as i moved forward. Morrison is really hit or miss for me, so this was nice after a few of the latter. I believe all these issues were oversized as well. I'll have to find some easy reads if i want to get my total up!

    1098 + 17 = 1115 for the year.

I was thinking it would be a fun idea to do some end of the year superlatives for the stuff that got read this year. Best story, biggest surprise, biggest disappointment, best art.....whatever! Have fun with it. I have a few more things i want to get to first, so i'll wait a couple weeks to post mine.

Yea, around new year's I was planning on doing a report (major things I read, like complete runs, full events, best and worst, etc.)

And then, of course, start it all over again for 2016. This was fun!

We Stand on Guard #1-6: Come for clever characterization by BKV and mechs by Skroce. Stay for the insight on war and power.

The Adventures of Barry Ween Boy Genius
    #4-6:
Probably the most obscure of my favorite comic books, but definitely in my top ten. The longest story of the series keeps the humor, and ups the challenges, building on many previous stories for what ended up being the grand finale to the best MA animated series never done (yet.)

Harbinger #1-7: I can see why it's so popular. The runaway heroes are flawed and believable in their screw-ups. It's been imitated (Gen 13, Runaways, the relaunch) but I'm not sure it's ever been topped.

    The Invisibles
    #1-16:
Excellent storytelling, but often very, very weird book.

Shadowman #1-3: Solid street-level borderline horror comic that makes interesting use of New Orleans culture. Shows how Valiant went for diverse genres (kinda like a proto MCU.)

XO Man of War #1-4: It's a fun series, although they did make a big mistake in keeping Adric's background so mysterious. The story's much better if you've read #0 (or the remake.)

Loki Blood Brothers #1-4: Beautiful art by Ribic. Great story as Loki deals with the aftermath of victory, and realizes some dark truths.

Star Trek The Next Generation Doctor Who Assimiliation: A crossover that can only be done in comic book form. Enjoyable at first, but drags a bit. Good sense of character.

King #1-3: Ho Che Anderson's interpretive biography. Insights into the controversies, compromises and disagrees as well as the horrors that necessitated the protests. The experimental is sometimes uneven.

    And Spidey comics...
    Ultimate Spider-Man #1-7
    Avenging Spider-Man #1-5

That brings my total to 2015, my goal for the year.

I also read graphic novels Little Nemo in Slumberland: So Many Splended Sundays (Good lord is it beautiful to see the art reproduced in its original size) and the first Usagi Yojimbo collection (with appearances of the character from various anthologies) which was a fun take on the ethos and style of Lone Wolf & Cub.

I'll probably read more comics, but I'm unlikely to write about those. I'll do a bigger end of the year tally at some point.

The best of this bunch was Barry Ween Monkey Tales 4-6.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

shame the art was quite awful sometimes, otherwise really liked it but could have been better with a different artist.

I think the quality of the art seemed to suffer as the series went on. Maybe it got rushed in the second half.

probably, there were really nice images so he is a capable artist, wish he had more time (or just give the whole thing to Marc Buckingham, he is so far my favourite modern artist on DW along with Matthew Dow Smith).
If you like DW I would recommend the IDW 11th Doctor series, Titan just collected it to paperbacks. I've read it in the IDW deluxes and it was lots of fun. The 10th Doctor series is good as well especially because the 3 arcs tell a bigger story.

Is it cheating to reread the G.I. Joe silent issue 1,000 times?

    update:

Fatale HC vol. 1 & 2 (24) - Really solid work from a team who never seems to disappoint. This, for me, was up there with Criminal and Sleeper in terms of quality. I disagree with those who say the story became repetitive and shouldn't have ran as long. I thought the latter tales, though similar, managed to bring something fresh and interesting to the overall lore. And i especially enjoyed the one-offs.

About half-way through the Goon, enjoying that as well. Hopefully will be able to finish that up this week, among others.

    1115 + 24 = 1139 for the year.

the goon is just gonna get better and better as it goes on. Probably will buy Fatale vol 2 this month but vol 1, while it was good, didn't blow me away.

    update:

Chew HC vol. 5 (11) - Another solid volume. If you've read this far, you pretty much know what to expect, as the quality of this book has remained consistent throughout. I do feel, however, that the series (with 10 issues to go) could have probably been wrapped up 15 to 20 issues earlier w/o really losing too much, other than the extra entertainment

Batman: Gothic HC (5) - Morrison's second work on batman i believe. Good story, not sure it deserved the deluxe treatment though. Well, other than being by Morrison.

Sandman Overture HC (6) - So happy for another Gaiman Sandman tale. Enjoyed this immensely. This story, and the Sandman series in general, is quite different from my usual interests. Just goes to show that a well written story can find an audience anywhere. Hope this isn't the last Sandman we see from Gaiman, but thankful for what we've gotten over the years

    1139 + 22 = 1161 for the year
