Yeah, older books were packed with words....check this Spidey page, the last panel has over 100 words. Modern books sometimes just have 2 panels on one page with one word balloon

current comics lol. Those silver and bronze age comics have so much dialog in them its ridiculous.

Marvel: CANCELLED (good luck with your seasonal approach and constant reboots... I'll miss the characters though)

    See!?
That's what I am talking about. If given the proper time, I can go through 4 silver age issues in one night. But then I'm done.
It takes me about as long to go through one silver age book as it would 5-6 current books. Maybe more.

Talk about cramming, that's nearly 150 words.

lol I read 4 books last week, injured both arms previous weekend using a post driller and found holding up an Omnibus was very tricky. I'd normally read an Omnibus in an hour, but I'm a fast reader, and if I'm really enjoying a book I read slower and slower to make it last.

    0.O

    An omnibus an hour??

I'm not a fast reader, and I like to stop and look at what is happening.
Also, I'm easily distracted and need practically silence to really read.

I can do a good 15-20 issues in a day (modern) if I'm devoting the time to it. Like a nice lazy Sunday. But I also concur that it's easy to get burned out on Silver Age stuff because of how wordy it can be. That doesn't make them bad stories, it's just not what I'm used to.

I can do a Dark Horse omni in a day with relative ease. But a Marvel Essential containing the same number of issues can be soulcrushing.

Anyways, I'd like to do an update post. I just started reading Walter Simonson's Thor.

    As of 28 January:

    All-New X-Men (2012): 35
    Amazing Spider-Man (2014): 12
    Amazing X-Men (2013): 15
    Ant-Man (2015): 1
Arrow (2012): 10-12 (counts as one)
    Avengers (1963): 368-369
    Avengers (2012): 34.2; 35-40
    Avengers West Coast (1985): 101
    Black Knight: Exodus (1996): one-shot
    Captain Marvel (2012): 17
    Cyclops (2014): 9
    Deadpool 2012): 40
    Excalibur (1988): 71
    Guardians 3000 (2014): 4
Guardians of the Galaxy (2013): 23
    Journey into Mystery (1952): 622-630, 626.1
    Legendary Star-Lord (2014): 7-8
Loki: Agent of Asgard (2014): 10
    Magneto (2014): 14
    Marvel Knights: Hulk (2014): 1-4
    Mighty Thor (2011): 1-6
    New Avengers (2013): 24-28
    New Mutants (2009): 29-30
    Nightcrawler (2014): 10
    Rocket Raccoon (2014): 7
    Silver Surfer (2014): 8
    Spider-Man 2099 (2014): 7
    Star Trek Ongoing (2012): 25-30
    Star Wars (2015): 1
Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Cry of Shadows (2013): 1-5
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: Golden Age of the Sith (1996): 0-5
    Thor (1966): 337-339
    Uncanny X-Men (1963): 304-307, 315
    Wolverine (1988): 75
    Wolverine (2003): 42-47
    X-Men (1991): 25-26
    X-Men (2013): 23
    X-Men Unlimited (1993): 2

    Total: 94

90+ in the first month is well on track for 1000 in a year (1000/12 = 83-1/3).

6-700 page Omnis (PunisherMax/Alias sized) an hour seems to be my default speed. Modern books definitely read much quicker. Atm it's the height of summer here and long evening sun is perfect for reading outside, I've read a lot this month.

I hardly read during the summer. Once the weather gets nice, I'm out and about. It's the winter/colder months that I buckle down and read indoors and get comfy with a few books.

Damn, that's just over 2 minutes an issue. I think I can manage 3,5 minutes per issue if the issues were very dialogue-light but then I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much.
