    Incredible Hulk #220
    Cover Date: February 1978
    Sale Date: November 15th, 1977
Writers: Len Wein (plotter) and Roger Stern (scripter)
    Artist: Sal Buscema
    Inker: Ernie Chan
    Letterer: Irv Watanabe
    Colorist: Glynis Wein
    Editor: Len Wein

    “Fury at 5000 Fathoms!”

    Guest Stars/Supporting Cast: Robinson Crusoe
    Villain: Captain Barracuda
Synopsis: Captain Barracuda manages to overpower the Hulk and take Robinson Crusoe and the strange machine back to their hidden base. It turns out Mr. Crusoe was actually a scientist named Purvis, who was attached to a project that was using gamma radiation to power machines in hopes of stimulating cell growth. The scientists took their experiment to a remote location to avoid irradiating others, and while it proved successful, ended up transforming all but Purvis into ape-like monsters. Stranded and alone, Purvis snapped and imagined himself as Robinson Crusoe. Barracuda uses it on Purvis, and he becomes an ape-beast and is thrown into a cell. The Hulk, who snuck inside the base, breaks Purvis out, but is once again overcome by the effects of the Purvis’ gadget…only this time he transforms back into Bruce Banner. Purvis exacts his revenge by activating it again, and transforms the entire pirate crew into ape-beasts. It starts to overload, so he carries the unconscious Banner and dog to an escape pod and sets them free just as it explodes.

Commentary: Len Wein officially hands over the writing chores to Roger Stern after this issue. A noticeable shift in the Hulk’s dialogue starts during his run. Stern wanted to portray the Hulk a bit more verbose and grouchy, so we still have the classic savage Hulk-speak, but he’s going to refer to himself as “THE Hulk”, rather than just “Hulk”.

The continuation of the greatness from 2018. We can see that from the 2019 solicitations.

Well, Ewing, from the beginning, said he had ambitious plans for the book and a lot of stories already mapped out for the future. Also, he wants to redefine the character, much like PAD did in the 90s, and that will open new possibilities for anyone who wants to write the Hulk in the future.
That's more than enough to be excited, imo!

It's a bit of a shame we don't see the Grey/Joe incarnation much these days apart from brief appearances during "revolving Hulk persona" storylines such as Paul Jenkins (and some of the Defenders comics at the same time) and some of the Loeb/Pak stuff. (Same with the Merged/Professor). He is, technically, the original.

There's still appearences in the ocassional video game or merchandising but they kind of lazily just re-color the green Hulk (Joe usually has a somewhat different statue, generally less hair and a very prominent brow, although many of the green Hulks have the latter as well).

Anyone else excited to see what they’ll be doing with Hulk once No Road Home starts? I think we’ll see a Hulk who might get stranded in time/space, where Ewing will get to tell his version of Mantlo’s Crossroads, or Pak’s Planet Hulk storyline.
