It's based off of a book, but obviously the similarities are plainly visible ... a former ballerina who becomes a Russian honeypot spy with a [Color] [Animal] codename, trained in a special school against her will, considering defection against her cruel masters.
There are other aspects to the character that she doesn't have in common with Natasha, like a heavy case of Literary Synesthesia where she's magically able to uncover hidden truths about people since everything she perceives is color-coded. The story doesn't sound like a direct riff on any existing Black Widow stories, either; she's supposed to seduce a CIA agent to find a mole in Russian intelligence.
Obviously Natasha's schtick isn't unique to her and she's more-or-less a collection of a bunch of different Cold War tropes and Russia cliches, but I don't think any of us would be surprised if the author admitted this was directly inspired by BW. Does this mean she's made it to the big leagues?
