    Strange Tales #167 Apr 1968
    "Armageddon"
    Jimmy cradles the body of his beloved in his arms; The Claw vows vengeance; Fury says he's takin' over --NOW!
    Just then, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE as a SHIELD Suicide Squad bursts in thru the floor via "The Dreadnought," a colossal tunneling machine.
    The Claw vanishes, Fury uses a "Psuedo-Elliptoid Wrist Tracer" to find him, but arrives just as the villain escapes into the "Space-Time Continuum" in an "Infinity Sphere."

    But Fury finds a "Prototype Warp-Vest" which uses "Hyper-Space Circuits" and follows The Claw's "Cosmic Trajectory."
    The Claw hits the button on a nuclear detonator, destroying his entire underwater base-- just as Fury arrives and attacks him using a "Mind-Amplifyin' Gizmo."

    As The Claw topples backward, Fury tells him SHIELD planted an "Explosion Absorber" and cleared out-- meaning, The Claw only succeeded in destroying his own base.
    Fury then uses The Satan Claw to peel open The Claw's armor and

    it is revealed to have been a robot pawn in a game lost by Dr. Doom to the Prime Mover.

    Script and pencils by Jim Steranko, inks by Joe Sinnott.

    X-Force #21 Apr 1993
    "War Machines"
    Graymalkin
    War Machine confronts X-Force and tells them to surrender. X-Force, doing what they know how, refuses and this leads to a large all out battle.
    War Machine quickly picks his targets and takes out Sam by dropping the roof on him.
    Rictor and Sunspot team up and knock War Machine temporarily down.
    Lila Cheney bolts out as soon as the fighting gets going and Feral runs into a ticked off, Nick Fury.

    All the damage that is being inflicted on Graymalkin is overriding the security systems and the base begins to lose power and defenses.
    When the battle gets too destructive, Professor announces to everyone on board that emergency measures are being taken and a destruct sequence has begun.

    Camp Verde
    Siryn, Boomer and Warpath arrive back from their shopping errand only to find that the rest of the team is nowhere in sight.
    They search around the camp for them and are met by a giant blast that takes them all out immediately.
    A figure stands over them and laughs at how easy it was to defeat them and wonders why Gideon was afraid of them all in the first place.

    South Stickney, Illinois
    Domino and Grizzly arrive at the home of their old teammate, Hammer. His elderly mother greets them and they enter the home.
    Hammer comes out in an electronic wheelchair and asks why they are there. They say they need his help in finding X-Force.
    Hammer refuses at first after learning that they have anything to do with Cable.
    He then eventually agrees when he learns that it will help keep Cable's legacy alive.

    Graymalkin
    The groups attempt to regroup while the ship begins to break up around them.
    Cannonball takes out Bridge and blames him for the loss of Graymalkin and the last bit of Cable that was left to them all.
    Professor announces that his self-preservation scan has completed and he teleports both Sunspot and Cannonball to another part of the ship.
    X-Force and the SHIELD salvage team group together and Lila warns that they will need to teleport out soon -- with or without Sam and Roberto.

    Meanwhile, Sunspot and Cannonball are both brought to the command center of the ship.
    Professor tells them that they must begin jettisoning portions of the ship out to conserve power to the main core before the destruct sequence runs out.
    He says that there is only one other than Cable that can turn off the sequence. This person turns out to be Sam.

    Massachusetts
    Vanessa finally leaves her room with her roommate, Tina. They head out for a night on the town together as "twins", since Vanessa has assumed Tina's form.
    They head to a bar in Boston that turns out to be the famous Cheers. They both order a drink from Sam and drink with the rest of the gang.

    New Delhi, India
    Deadpool threatens a local at one of Tolliver's old townhouses. He wants to find information on Tolliver's operatives since Tolliver is now dead.
    He receives the folder with the information and learns that Vanessa is in Massachusetts with her old roommate, Tina. He then says he is going to come hunt them both down.

    Graymalkin
    SHIELD continues to decide what they will do and if they should leave before the ship breaks apart or if they should try to salvage what they can.

    They notice X-Force still staying and head over to them.

    Sam and Roberto continue to jettison portions of the ship to the Earth.
    They send the weapons depot and the cargo bay to their base in Camp Verde.
    They then learn that the time displacement core is taking up the largest power and they send it off to the deepest portion of the Pacific Ocean.
    As soon as they send it off, the Professor announces an alert and the ship explodes.

    Script by Fabian Nicieza, pencils by Greg Capullo, inks by Harry Candelario.

    Symbiotes Meet the Vietnam War in Marvel’s Web of Venom: Ve’Nam

    Web of Venom: Ve’Nam, an August-debuting one-shot from current Venom ongoing series writer Donny Cates and artist Juanan Ramírez, recently of Uncanny Avengers. The story, stemming directly from events in the main Venom book, looks to reveal the secret history of when the original Nick Fury attempted to use an ancestor of the Klyntar symbiotes as a weapon during the Vietnam War — with predictably dire results.

    X-Force #22 May 1993
    "Ordnance Weighed in Blood"
    Earth Orbit
    Graymalkin begins to split apart and burn up on reentry into Earth's atmosphere. A larger piece flies past the SHIELD shuttle that is orbiting nearby.
    On the shuttle, the SHIELD salvage team along with X-Force and Lila Cheney return from a quick, unexpected jaunt across the universe and have just arrived.

    Bridge immediately grabs his weapon and tells X-Force to surrender. Lila scoffs and tells him good luck and then teleports X-Force off the shuttle.

    Nearby, a piece of Graymalkin hits the atmosphere and contains both Sunspot and Cannonball. They were teleported off Graymalkin into the escape pod by Professor.
    He tells them that as soon as they hit the ground, he will no longer be able to guide them. They reenter the atmosphere and wings pop out of the pod.
    They safely begin to glide to Earth.

    Oregon Coastline
    Boomer, Warpath and Siryn each are secured to a rock cliff near the ocean's water. The water splashes into their fatigued bodies.
    The person that captured them stands on the rocks and tells them that he is Saul, an External, and that he and Gideon have captured them to watch them die.

    Department K Bunker
    Domino and Grizzly pose as both Val Cooper and General Clarke. They get past the Department K security easily and enter the operations maintenance room.
    They break in just as their holographic image inducers fail and they quickly get on the computer.
    They begin to download all the info that Department K has on Cable and they are forced to just download all the information to look at it remotely.
    They are then confronted by Weapon: P.R.I.M.E..

    Boston
    Tina and Vanessa are hitting the town as "twins". They stop in front of a jewelry store and Vanessa plots to steal the jewels.
    Deadpool uses this moment to attack and misses. The couple then head off down the street. Just then, a shot rings out and blows a giant hole in Tina's stomach.
    The shooter is Sluggo and Deadpool arrives only to tell him that he better have gotten the right one or he's dead.

    Camp Verde
    The team examines all the new equipment that they have salvaged from Graymalkin. Lila looks for Sam before she leaves and finds him on the hillside.
    He is thinking about how Cable only left them so little though he took so much. She tells him that's all they asked for and she teleports away.
    Then, a message is heard on their communications array that Saul and Gideon are holding their teammates prisoners and demand that Cannonball give himself to them or their friends die.

    Script by Fabian Nicieza, pencils by Greg Capullo, inks by Kevin Conrad and Harry Candelario.

    Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD #1 Jun 1968
    First appearance of Scorpio in "Who Is Scorpio?"
    Fury sneaks into an island fortress, only to get shot in the back. Surprise!; It's an L.M.D., and the shooter is the real Fury!;
    But on examination, Dugan informs Fury the L.M.D.'s been shot 4 times, not 3 - which means, someone tried to assassinate him!;

    The only clue is a tiny badge with a "Scorpio" symbol on it; In San Francisco, comic Flip Mason's on the run from gambling debts;
    In Kansas City, racketeer Mitch Hackett looks forward to joining the mob. In NYC, Fury & Val walk in the rain;
    At the Monza Autodrome, Count Julio Scarlotti wins a race - and we see he has a Scorpio tattoo on his wrist;
    Days later in Nevada, Fury helps test an "EPB G-System" (Entrope Phase Barrier Guard System), a force field which is hoped may one day protect entire armies.

    As SHIELD prepares one final test (with an H-Bomb!) we see the tech firing the missile has a Scorpio tattoo on his wrist;
    Fury suddenly realizes the EPB's down, and nobody answers his comm;
    He races across the desert to a rocket sled used by NASA to escape as the missile descends on the spot he was relaxing;
    At the U.S. Government Research Center in Las Vegas, everyone's been put to sleep with gas by Scorpio - when Fury arrives via motorcycle.

    Letter to the editor from comics writer Don McGregor.

    Script and pencils by Jim Steranko, inks by Joe Sinnott.
