Default The Anti-Avengers vs The Battle Of New York

In the history we all know Loki Odinson used the Tesserect to open a gateway over New York City to allow a Chitauri horde loaned to him by Thanos to pour through with the aim of destruction and conquest. Their brutal attack was opposed and their campaign thwarted due to the actions of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Avengers. Thanks to their valiant efforts many lives were saved, the portal was closed and the Chitauri were stopped in their tracks.

But suppose the Avengers weren't there. That fate or chance or contrivance prevented the heroes from being on the scene. Furthermore, let us supposed a concerned entity that will remain nameless decided to compensate for their absence by extracting beings from other times and places to act in their stead, dark counterparts of the heroes who were supposed be there. For Captain America, The Winter Soldier. Instead of Iron Man, Ivan Vanko in his Whiplash Power Armor. In place of Thor, the Dark Elf Malekith empowered by the energies of the Aether. Taking the Hulk's place, his gamma-powered adversary The Abomination. Substituting for the Black Widow, former SHIELD Agent and HYDRA operative Grant Ward. And filling in for the archer Hawkeye, Yondu of The Ravagers, who is pretty good with an arrow even without a bow.

Using cosmic powers of persuasion, the entity who gathered these formidable individuals forges them into a team and charges them with the purpose of defending New York as the Avengers were supposed to do. The question is can they succeed. Can this group of villains and renegades battle the Chitauri, protect innocent lives and close the portal? Can they save the city or will Loki and his army be victorious?

I, The Watcher, pose this question to you all,

What If The Anti-Avengers Fought The Battle Of New York?

This team is arguably more powerful than the regular Avengers, but without dumb luck and flying powered armor, they all still die from the nuke in the end. Whiplash Mk2 is notably much less maneuverable in flight than any of the Iron Man armors.
