It really is a freaking shame. HBO Max seemingly had a rough start but has become one of the best streaming services. It really sucks to see it get dismantled before our eyes.

The Batman show hasn't been cancelled. It will be made but it won't be released on HBOMax. They are going to have to shop it around to see who will release it.

And yes, it's a cost saving measure since whoever picks it up will also have to pay for the cost of making it.

Like, I usually do not like to cheer for company mergers but DC is an IP the rest of Hollywood would kill for (remember Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion and it's now worth $50 billion) yet Warner has proven time and time again they are completely incapable of managing it.

The investors would never allow it! DC is their biggest IP and one with immense potential to help WBD get out of debt. It’s also why they’ll never sell HBO or WBIE, those are their most profitable divisions, especially recently with the HUGE successes of House of the Dragon and Multiversus.

The company is 50 billion in debt after the merger
If they continue as business as usual they will still have that debt for the next decade

They are going about it in inept and damaging ways to the brand but the sole reason for these cuts is the huge amount of debt post merger

The DCTV movies might be safe. I think it actually makes a solid profit for what they are. It seems to be streaming related content that is really getting chopped up since streaming in general is losing money for everyone not named Netflix or Amazon

Netflix cancels shows all the time that's not off-brand. They jus usually get a season first. Netflix also has a different business model

Cartoon Network is pretty upset with WBD as well and are fighting back, but who knows what good that will do.

There's rumours that Cartoon Network itself is on the chopping block.

Everyone is upset with Warner.

It’s not just the projects cancelled they are firing some good execs that helped build the company into what it was.

Everyone is getting culled. First CNN+ then CNN then HBO now OWN and a good majority of animated projects.

The new head wants to own the world today without any care or conscious of people or culture. HBO has had a very successful business model based around aggressive co-production deals and IP protection. Now they are upending everything and taking away from HBO Max.

HBO Max was the future of everything. Just like how Disney is going all in with Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+

Game of Thrones is great but the service is suppose to be so much more. You can’t just run things like HGTV

Yeah, Zaslav is a dinosaur. And sexist. HBO Max, male skewed, scripted. Discovery+, female skewed, non-scripted. So women don't watch drama or comedy, and men don't watch documentaries? I wonder if the reality is that he just doesn't understand scripted content, and was genuinely surprised by the backlash and negative publicity from all of the cancellations?
