Issue 50 is quite important, not only because this is where Wally gets his new costume but also because this is when he officially becomes as fast as Barry.

And issue 61 is one of the best issues from Messner-Loebs' run since it recaps a lot of the character work he did over the series. Is quite a great way to end an adventure as he would put it. (I seriously want to re-read his whole run right now).

But you also only have to do math; Countdown was written over Morrison's first script and pitch for FC. So, that was already done. Add there the production time for guys like Morrison, Johns and Van Sciver - not one of them on the fast side.
But was there any mention about Barry being planned to get resurrected at the time?

I suppose that Waid wouldn't have agreed with that when he was writing Wally.

Both Waid and Johns were against turning Bart Flash (Kid Flash, also). They tried to avoid it but lost. I suspect Wally being the main Flash at the point Barry return was seen as the potential to too much negative feedback; it kinda happened anyway, but oin an enviroment of reduced risk. (By the time Barry came back the franchise was broken, contrary to 2006)
    That is correct.

I still think it was broken by bad writing....and thus by those who chose the writers who would be writing just before they brought back Barry in Rebirth.
Which they badly muffed up as well. God that was such a letdown. Followed by even more letdown.
Manupal started to pick it all up to the point that I was wavering on returning, but then they left and.....that kid happened.

Waid did leave DC before the first issue of his second Flash run hit stands because of 'broken promises". Take that as you will.

50 Wally gets a suit that is not a pure Barry hand-me-down so is something of a milestone. Finishes #49.
52 Wally working with the IRS. This is a pretty funny issue. If you like humor, GET this one.
55 is just a promo for a crossover event. Fairly forgettable.
55-57 is a murder mystery. If you like murder mysteries, this one is pretty decent.
58 is really a socialism tale via The Pied Piper. Didn't do anything for me, personally.
59-60 deals with Mason's son. It's okay by that, but has some good scenes between Wally and Power Girl (which will make more sense if you've read the Justice League Europe issues with Wally in them.)
61 is Wally's mother's marriage. The story has no action but has mentions that harken back to past issues, lots of humor, and is the last issue by Messner-Loeb. A farewell issue, really. GET it.
    66 As much as I love Aquaman...meh.
67 & 68 deal with Abracadabra's origin. If you like that villain then get them.
69 & 70 are a crossover with Wally and Hal fighting Hammond and Grodd. They both get big heads. It's...interesting, but I believe it's one of those where you really have to get the complementing Green Lantern issues to get the whole picture.
71, 72 Wally fights Alchemy and Linda almost leaves him. It's okay.
73 This is a pretty nice Christmas tale that features Wally working with Jay.
80 Old girlfriend of Wally's Francis Kane trying to murder Linda.
81 & 82 Wally teamed with Nightwing and Starfire. Sadly story was forgettable and Nightwing was Discowing at that period. Ugh.
86 A promo for Argus. Boring, boring, boring.
84, 85, 87, 88, 89 are all tied together via a women suing Flash. It was pretty good. 84 & 85 is the setup story for the basis of the case. I especially loved the epilogue which is...
91 is tied into the previous but is one of my favorite stories with Max Mercury (he's very the wise guru in this one.)

119 will not make much sense without purchasing the rest of Final Night xovers.

122-125 were one big story against Major Disaster and moving to California. Personally really liked it and it tied into Hell to Pay arch (which I absolutely adore.)
143 & 144 Origins of (Blue) Cobalt. Yeah, not a well loved villain. It ties with Chain Lightning but is really skippable.
145-150 Chained Lighting. I really, really loved this story. Especially the last part because....Wally meets Barry in the future! Wally vs the AntiMonitor! Kudos. Last of Waid's first arc and the best tag ending scene I've ever read for Wally.
152-159 Dark Flash saga. It's....I'm not going to spoil it. If you don't get this now....get it one day. Brilliant mystery story.
160 Wally and Linda's honeymoon. Lots of humor. Last minute peril. One of my all-time favorite reaction humor scenes towards the end.
162 forgettable unless you really love Captain Marvel.
163 I liked this one (Wally saves some of the major heroes without their knowing, but it's something that can be read later.
226 mountainclimbing with Piper. Meh. Not horrible, but not good either. Actually any of the stories after this are fair to middling.
Thanks! That's really helpful! I got 152-160, but I might get a couple more based on your suggestions!

You're mistaken there, Kyer. That's not DiscoWing. That's MulletWing.

That costume is hideous. hahahaha. Sorry to any who like it. I just...cannot support that look.

Read issue...#27, #28 says it concludes the Porcupine Man arc, so we'll see!
All I know is, it really pains me to see Wally with all those quills poking out of him. Not, you know, just because it's Wally, but because it looks painful as Hell. Especially the ones poking out of his face.

An abusement of Dick Grayson is a crime by any name and the artists back then were creating felonies. :_(

Really liked Porcupine Man even if a few scenes worried my Puritanical sensibilities At times.
For a brief moment when first read it I'd wondered is Wally was an alien....had only been into The Flash for a handful of months before and most of that was from catching JLU on TV and then YT before could get the DVD.
    Good times.

I think the worst part for me is that it seems like it was drawn not only as the quills coming out of him, but it looks as though they are stretching the skin around before actually coming out of the skin. It, just, lord, looks so painful. And I keep thinking, "They need to get those out of him before they get infected and his skin starts to "heal" around them."

See, I had to read that arc a second time because I really was green to Wally and all but the basics of Flash so thought it was some natural part of his abilities that had been dropped by the time Jlu was in production. What did I know? :-)

    I still know nothing. hahahaha.
I just read it, and what doesn't make sense is still completely fun and readable to me. I love it ALL. And what I don't just fall into love with automatically, I still appreciate because it's FUN.

The look on DiDio's face would be priceless.

Did anyone else watch the latest Flash TV show and remember the Porcupine Man? I think it was a tribute to that story. The Flash had metal spikes coming out of him that were attracted by his kinetic energy.

No, I didn't catch the episode.
That show comes on at the worst time EVER for me to watch TV, and I always forget to DVR it.
Is the first season on Netflix or no, is it too soon for Netflix?
