Post Brian Michael Bendis's Daredevil 26-50, 56-81 / What is your verdict?

As a whole, I enjoyed Brian Bendis's run in Daredevil. The appeal of his storytelling is that he makes you really care about the characters. He does a great job of balancing the different parts of Matt Murdock's life. You see him in his super hero persona, sure, but he gives Daredevil so much more depth as a character. You get to see what Daredevil's life as a lawyer, his relationship with his law office practice partner Foggy, the newspaper reporter, and the eventual female character Milla. He interconnects the relationships so well. As far as the story, it's written like a good TV show. Think of Law and Order in the middle volumes of this run. Every issue keeps you anticipating the next one. The story develops slower than other super hero comics. It is less action oriented than other super hero comics. You see how things in Matt Murdock's life intertwine with his super hero persona and how it affects that persona very well. A lot of the stories deal with cleaning up organized crime. If you're a fan of something like Law & Order then you'd probably like the stories. I don't want to say too much else about the stories for now. So as you can tell, I really enjoyed this run. I'd start exactly on the volume titled, Underboss.

The last arc of Bendis's run was so good. He really gave Brubaker a lot to work with.

Its so great, its the type of noir crime book that doesnt come around all that often. I wish Bendis would return to these type of stories, his DD: End of Days came out relatively recently and confirms thats whats he's really good at.

Speaking of noir, I'd say more than anything the way Alex Maleev's illustrations convey emotion. He does a wonderful job pairing with Bendis's writing. I also just love the attention to detail he pays on less targeted drawings like his cityscapes. What I like about a lot of his art during the rin is how Maleev turns what could be a rather mundane transition scenes into something that feels very real.

    Brilliant.

The kind of quality that lots of titles aspire too but never reach.
