The true twist of Spider-verse would be that there is no "inherent attraction", and Cindy is just itchin' for it and Peter Parker is too. After all, he's the first man she's seen in however many years (also a man who she's watched vehemently through film over the years). "Animal Urges" might just mean "animal urges" lol.

(But even then, Maison Ikkoku is my favorite anime romance.)
not aware of maison ikkoku but that seems to be more of a direct romantic/drama story (which does look pretty good after a quick google). i’m referencing robotech mostly because of the blend between heroics and romance. almost perfect balance.

i’ve been meaning to check out the original macross- i imagine that the romantic plotlines couldn’t have been altered that much though (rick-lisa-minmay, max-miriya, roy and claudia, admiral gloval and the SDF-1 ha), right?

Yeah, Maison Ikkoku is more of a romantic comedy that ran for over 90 episodes. It's about a boy (and when the series begins, Godai is very much a boy) who falls for the new manager of his crappy apartment complex, a young widow named Kyoko. Despite the very real world setting of 1980s Japan, it still features on of the strangest characters ever created. (What is your deal, Yotsuya? I still can't figure you out!)

Almost every anime romantic comedy was inspired by, or inspired by something inspired by, Maison Ikkoku.

As far as Macross. Yeah, you'll recognize many of the story beats. They changed the names (except for Minmay) and some other things.

I think it's supposed to be somewhat creepy. They themselves are creeped out by it.

Was not much of a Maison fan as I was more of the Kimagure Orange Road fan. Check it out if you can. I remember back in the early 90s, when college campuses started anime clubs there would be this faction of Maison vs Kimagure fans LOL. Both are a genre of underdog geeks that loses the beautiful with MANY misunderstandings and hijinks but eventually hook up with said gal in the end.

    As for Macross
Well between original Minmay and dub-Minmay, the US version was one notch more annoying LOL. The japanese voice actor (seiyuu) now lives in Los Angeles away from it all and usually gets annoyed when she's approached about that role LOL. I used to be a manager at Anime Expo and we took her on excursions....it was....interesting to say the least LOL.

Anyhow, I do recommend the most recent sequel Macross Frontier. It's a wonderful homage to the original Macross series and has its own infamous love triangle. When I was with Bandai, we tried acquiring that series but with the rights still belonged to Harmony Gold at the time, it would have taken at least all the existing US anime companies to do a team effort to bring it over.

But DO check out that series. I think I experienced every single emotion possible with that incarnation LOL. And while you're at it, also check out other great Macross titles like Macross Plus. Stay away from Macross II (That was pretty much removed from canon or rather everytime its brought up in an interview, Kawamori tries very hard to ignore its existence). And before you watch Macross Frontier, check out Macross Zero since it's more or less the prequel to it.

Ugh sorry for the Off-topic-ness LOL

    Saw this on twitter.

(On if Silk is "hot to trot" with all Spider-Men, or just 616 Peter.)

Because the weird pheromone attraction they both experience around each other doesn't strike me as particularly romantic. I always got the reading that these two actually didn't like each other, and the pheromone thing was out of their control, which is why they try to get away from each other. Have I just been reading it wrong all this time? Or is this relationship unintentionally as creepy as I thought it was?
Slott does creepy things he doesn't realize are creepy, so you're not reading it wrong. However they don't actually seem to dislike each other, they dislike that the power of christ compels them to bone whenever they're close.

no doubt. i was a wee lad in love with with every female cartoon character on my tv screen. including robots. so i forgave minmay’s high pitched voice.

i remember thinking rick should just marry both of them…

so many people who have had such a huge impact on a generation don’t always feel the same way about their work. i also remember approaching bob budiansky about transformers when i was pretty little, he was nice and all but i had this strange feeling that he was not excited about them at all.

will also look into frontier, i tried plus but for some reason it didn’t grab me the time.

to bring it back to spider-man, there was something about those macross relationships that just seemed to matter. maybe it was the huge war backdrop, but i also think it was just smart human dynamics. i always though peter and mj were nice, but i never felt the same way. maybe i didn’t read the right stories.

They can resist it, Silk chooses not to as she doesn't see the sex as that bad a thing. Her solution isn't to resist, it's to get Peter off his turf so they don't have to bother resisting.

Spock, for example, resisted her even when the Pheromones acting up because of his love for Anna.

The original Macross series was far superior than the heavily edited version that was part of the Robotech series. Even after 30 years, the Robotech version is quite outdated while the original Macross version is timeless.

It is funny how I compared the way Spider-Man is being written to porn on Tuesday, and Dan Slott verifies it. It also shows that it's not just Cindy but 616 Pete. Why? Because that is how Marvel want him portrayed. Like someone between the ages of 15-23 with NO responsibilities in life. Basically instead of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility." We get "If It Feels Good Do It." That is exactly why Spider-Man is not respected in the MCU, because he is viewed as the "High School Class Clown" looking to come up with one liners, and hit upon every hot chick out there ( of course, Cindy Moon's beauty is strictly on a dog level when compared to MJ, but that is another issue). I wonder what will be next Pete as a 'Harold and Kumar' type stoner?
