Default PHOTO: First Look at Brandon Routh in Costume as The Atom on "Arrow"

It's been teased on the show for weeks, and The CW has released the first image of Brandon Routh in the full Atom suit on "Arrow."

I just don't buy this as Ray at all. I feel like Ted Kord would have been a better character to go with.

I actually thought it was a XO-Manowar at first. Also looks like something Tony Stark would design Similarities aside, It's a cool look.

Even before clicking the link, I was afraid of that, though I expected more blue.

Anyway, for a TV costume it's not bad, but he does look like a mix between that guy and a football player... OF THE FUTURE.

Yeah, it does kinda look like the X-O Manowar Armor .

Still, I think it's decent as a live-action Atom suit...You've still got some staples of the Atom's suit from the comics in there, and some red and blue, so I think it's fine overall. Might look much better in action than in a teaser image .

All I really care about though is knowing whether Ray can shrink or not .

Actually, they originally wanted Ted Kord. DC told them "No, we've got something else in mind for him."

So, Routh's part is basically just Ted Kord/Blue Beetle with a name change.

Which, I mean, I guess that's okay if it means I can get my comedy buddy (super)cop series, Blue & Gold.

I've been saying that since I first saw Routh as Palmer, but apparently the movie-side doesn't want Kord on TV for some odd reason. Apparently he's who the producers actually wanted, and he really seems like a better fit than the Atom.

That aside, I don't dislike the armored costume but that helmet has got to go.

On a CW budget? I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that, but with some clever trickery they may make it work.

If you removed the facemask it'd look pretty cool.

I guess it depends on if they're doing dynamic shrinking, and how seamless they plan on making him look in scenes. I mean one of the reasons Wright took so long to make Ant-Man was because he didn't think the technology was there a decade ago, but Fox had a great looking Human Torch.

I don't know. I'm no VFX specialist, but I always got the feeling that fire was one of the cheaper effects to do on TV.
