Can Kom fly in the new continuity?

Re: Kory's outfit. This is always a tricky thing because while you could say it's reflective of an alien culture, said culture is also a product of real life (male) writers and artists and the industry's history of sexualising female characters doesn't help.

And the thing is there are a lot different facets to Kory's character that are way more interesting than how she dresses or how many people she sleeps with. Her friendship with Donna, that she's the rightful ruler if another planet. Those are interesting things to talk about but most writers just end up focusing on her sexuality.

Well, aside from the obvious "Dude-bro, BOOBS!! LOLZ!" stuff, Kori's sexuality is about the most unique thing about her, as far as mainstream comics go. I mean, "royalty ignoring their duties" isn't that uncommon and neither is "stranger in a strange land" or the "crappy childhood" stuff, but a character who has a nontraditional sexuality is still fairly unusual, and someone like Kori even moreso. I agree that she is not, and should not, be defined by who she sleeps with and its not even the most interesting thing about her (she likes sex and cleavage, so what? Who doesnt?), but if you want to tell a story that can only be told with Kori, and you discount her hedonistic culture and personality, you're not left with a whole lot. Emphasis on "stories you can ONLY tell with Kori" Im not trying to imply there's nothing else to her character.

That said, my favorite story with her in recent years was her trip back to Tamaran in RH&TO where she was wearing the full-body space armor. It was a side of her we rarely get to see and it was quite refreshing. But again, that sort of stuff can be told with virtually any character capable of space travel or who has ties to nobility.

Im sorry but the RHatO stuff was nonsensical rubbish. They just snapped their fingers and reveled her to be this "cool" and harden former space captain. That is why it was a side of her we rarely get to see, because they just pulled it out of their butt. It reeked of overcompensating. A poor and desprate attempt to make up for their initial crap with her, but it was just nonsensical, cool for the sake of cool, dribble. It didn't actually compliment Starfire's character or highlight any of the things that made Starfire appealing. She still continued to be this emotionally broken thing and come off like a cold robot void of any charm or youthful exuberance.

Her being a commander makes sense of sorts given her upbringing. As for youthful exuberance, why would that come up at any point when she's a captain?

How, exactly? Her costume in JL vs TT was basically a rendition of her original cartoon look for an older Starfire, while her Rebirth costume is a completely different design with a leotard.

The color scheme is pretty much the only thing they have in common.

It's because the two outfits are in-sync with one another about how much of Kori's skin is being covered, which for the comics is highly unusual for her.

Ugh, I hate how DC keeps hammering nails into the coffin that is Nightwing/Starfire. If DC wants to move on, whatever. I'm not happy about it, but whatever. However, everytime they crap on Nightwing/Starfire, it feels like they're spitting on all the great stories we got with the original TT.

huh?? i didn't get that impression from tt at all.

if anything, it seems like they have the possibility of rekindling their romance later down the line. dc have seemed to preserve their history, and leave them on very good (close) terms with each other. couldn't ask for more without actually getting them back together imo

oooof, those heels? It's an inoffensive design but kind of dull and lacking connection to anything that came before it. Very little about it is distinctive to the starfire iconography really.

To be honest, i didn't mind her pornoriffic look from the outlaws book (with the boob appliqués), because if you are going to go exotic sexpot goddess of fan-service, i kinda feel you should commit and go there. And that outfit sure did.
It's unfortunate that the writing couldn't be more subversive in a way that wouldn't have doomed the look to be viewed as the worst of fan-service.

I understand the moment in comics where at now where that sexualized a look doesn't work for marketing to female and young readers though.
My favorite look for her is still the phil jimenez outfit with the armor pants, uncomfortable as they would likely be if actually worn.


i miss her curly hair though. It was brought up on another thread that characters with curly hair all eventually go straight. Long and straight being a beauty standard as it were. Boooo. bring back the big curly kori!

given kori's history being enslaved and tortured as an adolescent, it makes sense that she would be a strong advocate for the younger generation of titans. Thats what geoff johns was picking up on during his run on teen titans when he put starfire in the mentor role. That along with, distilling her essence to "alien amazon warrior princess", were brilliant. It was a move forward in the maturation of the character. Subsequent versions of the character have taken her in a more naive or immature version of her characterization (to be kind).




It was also a visual reminder of blackfire's role as an outsider in tamaranean society. She was considered handicapped because she was born without the ability to fly. Amongst a bohemian society of bombshells and adonises, poor kommand'r was the broken princess. She would have paired off well with lightning lord from the legion books who was likewise shunned for being born without a twin on the planet winath where twin births were the standard.

If Starfire is in Injustice, I hope they get the actress from Teen Titans to voice her. It would be cool for her to do a more serious take on the character, would be an interesting contrast with Teen Titans Go! Starfire.

Also, considering Netherrealm Studios track record with female character designs, I'm assuming their take on Kori would create a bit of a stir. Prepare for backlash

Have you seen the Injustice 2 trailer? They made Diana's outfit skimpier than the 1st game. Harley too. Like I said, prepare for backlash if Kori shows up

A whole TT reunion would be so awesome. If Beast Boy and Robin/Nightwing are playable, they could get all the actors together. Don't know how plausible that is but it would be awesome. More plausible than a Justice League 2004 reunion though.
