Why can't women have round asses in art anymore? What's the big deal?

Lorna and Wanda

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I've watched x-men movies and the cartoon on Fox. My husband is big on comics and got me interested in them, I was drawn to Lorna there's something about her that I like, maybe it's the green hair. I just started reading All New X Factor this past summer and I love it. I want to see Lorna in other things!
Welcome to the thread! We may or may not only bite on a full moon.
Since you said you've just started reading All-New X-Factor this past summer, I'm curious, what did you think of ANXF #14?
Ah, so she's probably the one that has a screenshot of her on paheal (if you know the site). I really like that she has the skull in addition to everything else.
I think people underestimate porn and other adult content when it comes to stuff like this. Whether we're talking pornographic fanart, yaoi fanfiction or what have you, it's a sign of how much interest exists in a character. At the bare minimum, the interest could only be in how they look, but typically it's the whole package.

14 is one of my favorites. I enjoy seeing Lorna as a strong, independent and assertive leader and I could not see her as an avenger right now. Plus I'm not sure if I'm ready for her and Alex to be close together, (I don't hate the pairing). Wanda telling about Pietro and Alex makes me feel like Wanda is feeling left out. I really enjoy seeing Lorna and Pietro as brother and sister, I can see Alex getting his from a pissed off Lorna. Do you think Magneto will ever make an appearance?
I once read somewhere that John Byrne said something to the effect of "The X-Men don't need more than one powerful female" and wondered if this was what the writers felt about Lorna for a while. That as long as you had tough females like Ororo, Betsy, Emma etc you could get away with writing Lorna as weak. Maybe that's why she got put through the ringer so many times.
My problem with that is mostly that it seems to be the only reason that PAD had it happen, as before Alex has been shown to have confidence in her and her abilities to lead, it would have made far more sense and been more like Alex to have just wanted Pietro to be there in case anything really bad happened and she and/or the team needed help, not to spy on her because he thought that she couldn't handle it and would fail, but PAD needed a bad guy and picked Alex for that role I guess.
Many people are speculating that ANXF #18 may have an appearance by Magneto.

I almost put spoiler tags around that, but it's purely speculation, so I figure it's fine. Speculation was also what led some to think a picture showed Harrison Snow with powers and using them before the character in that scene was revealed to be Memento Mori, so it's up in the air.
Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts on ANXF #14! I really wish Marvel had promoted the issue and released its cover earlier than one week before release, a lot of people have been saying that the issue was sold out on local store shelves. The same problem happened with X-Factor #243, Lorna's origin story issue also written by Peter David, so hopefully next time Marvel is better about this sort of thing.
As for Lorna and Alex, the main thing I think is that Lorna needs more time not in relationship with Alex in order to show her own personality and capabilities. Too much of Lorna's history involves making her solely defined by her relationship with Alex. There's nothing wrong with a woman standing by her man, I like Rosa Farrell from Final Fantasy IV partly for that reason, but it's not good when the relationship is one-sided and prevents one partner of that relationship from having certain things about them explored. I think it's going to take about ten years apart before writers are able to treat Lorna as an equal in her relationship with Alex.
Realistically, people are varied and you should be able to expect strong and weak men, strong and weak women, etc. I'm perfectly cool with that, so I don't mind if a female character is weak or pathetic. What I mind is when a character that was created as strong and powerful is rewritten to be weak just because someone doesn't appreciate or respect that character. It's why I hate what's happened to Aya Brea, Samus Aran, Jill Valentine and Lara Croft lately in video games. When a female character is created strong, that characterization should be kept intact.
I also find that John Byrne comment, if true, to be incredibly poor taste. Despite any intent behind the line, ultimately it comes across as saying strong women are novelties in a world with too many strong men to count.

In the future I would love to see Lorna and Alex back together only if it's done right. No more arm candy Lorna. I would love to see the Summers family and the house of Magneto connected together. I would love to see Magneto in 18, crossing my fingers that this will happen!
