    WCW Monday Nitro - June 9th , 1997

Your Hosts - Tony Shiavone , Mike Teney , Bobby Heenan & Larry Zybsko

This week actually has the WCW Monday Nitro intro before starting. Shiavone welcomes us to the Fleet Center in Boston , Mass. 22,000+ fans are live watching this one folks. Dennis Rodman and Hollywood Hogan will now be a team coming up at the next PPV "Bash at the Beach. Tonight the Outsiders will face Ric Flair/Roddy Piper. Then we go backstage as the NWO is arriving as its Randy Savage and Elizabeth in a limo.

Suddenly in a very dangerous spot DDP arrives and begins to kick at the glass window. Repeated kicks with cowboy boots on and the glass breaks finally. Its a dangerous as hell spot given that Page gets his leg stuck at one point . Liz slams the door in his arm to get Savage away. The limo speeds off as he Page holds his arm on ground. The show begins as we get Ultimo Dragon , Super Calo and Juventud Guerrera as a team. WCW seemed to realize just how terrible their 1st hour was a week ago.

Also that Piper/Flair tag team match made for the Great American Bash PPV against the Outsiders now were pushed to this Nitro. The company seemed to make a quick move here. La Parka , Silver King and Pscosis are the team they are facing. Teney comically brings up lucha libre rules as Larry jokes there is none. Teney then brings up tag rules and lack of them. Psicosis finally starts off as he wants Ultimo Dragon as he gets a big shoulder block to start with kicks. In corner seconds later Dragon botches his leg hand stand in corner and hurts his knee.

Then seconds later Psicosis goes flying over the corner turnbuckle on a big splash attempt missing Dragon who moves. In ring La Parka and Super Calo work as he goes into his corner and does a weird move where he ends up using Parka's shoulders into a front arm drag deal. Big back body drop. Later in a wild spot Calo catches La Parka off the ropes and using his legs , elevates him right over the ropes to floor. Seconds later Calo does an awkward front body splash through the ropes onto a laying La Parka on floor.

This match is going so fast Silver King and Juvie comes flying across as he dives out. Then we get a single thrust kick to Juventud's chin. King misses a big splash as Juvie comes off turnbuckle with a nice huricanrana. They move so quick where they aren't clearly on same page at times. Juvie gets caught as he tries a move with his knees off the ropes as Silver King delivers a side slam type deal. Then misses an elbow drop as Guerrera moves too soon it appears.

Then we get off the ropes we see the spot retried at what Juventud wanted. He uses Silver King's body to jump up and deliver a big drop kick type move. King takes a breather as he's done and weirdly acts to someone in crowd ? Back in Dragon does his combination kick move to Pscosis ! In ring he tags Juvie who does an big elbow drop from into the air off the top ropes. La Parka comes in after as him and Juventud both start hitting ropes in a spot. Then we see them both seemingly go for a spinning back kick , but Juvie is faster and gets it off !

Calo in and after some slowed offense La Parka gets off a spinning belly to belly slam on him. We get a tag with a guillatine leg drop by Pscosis. 4 guys in working now as fans start a Oley chant for some reason but then in a cool spot Pscosis catches Juvie off the ropes and throws him over , where Juvie catches Silver King with a frankensteiner move. No one knows who legal man is due to this as referee is even confused. Later Dragon and Pscosis go in and after some fast reversals Dragon makes the 1st pin attempt of this match , where he catches him in a victory roll. Its a 2 count though.

Then seconds later Dragon tries a huricanrana attempt and Pscosis reverses it into a roll up attempt and gets a 2. Later in a funny cool spot as Dragon and Pscosis is outside on the floor as Silver King tries a splash and stops. Then La Parka comically helps elevate him into a moonsault to the floor where Silver King lands on his own man Pscosis as Dragon moves ! Super Calo does his suicide dive splash over the top rope on King . La Parka follows with using the chair to fly over onto Calo !

Juvie uses La Parka's chair to baseball slide into him then does a double step moon sault dive onto him where it looks like he's flying into the camera on the floor ! Back in ring Dragon delivers a huricanrana from top turnbuckle onto Pscosis. Then locks in dragon sleeper finisher to win ! Post match we see La Parka jump Calo using his chair and gives a beat down while Calo's team watches ...and don't help ?

At top of the ramp we see Mean Gene Okerlund. He brings out the Total Package . Luger is ripped for sure at this time. Gene brings up the Rodman/Hogan match tag team wise at Bash at Beach. Lex claims him and Giant have put their names down on the contract to do that match. He then mocks how Hulk has a lot of issues defending his title at times with all his movies and side deals. Tonight Hollywood is being forced to wrestle....TONIGHT. He has to defend the WCW World title against HIM ! Lex Luger vs Hollywood Hogan tonight.

Earlier today we see Roddy Piper and Ric Flair outside to be interviewed by Mike Teney. Piper claims him and Flair are together in sync and ready. Also they are 2 dinosaurs , 2 cool T-Rex dinosaurs ready. The Outsiders are gonna see what the Lost World is all about. Flair tells em tonight the Outsiders are gonna think they are seeing Bobby Orr and Larry Bird at the Fleet Center WOOOOOO !!

Alex Wright is out playing a heel telling TV camera it stinks. He then mocks fans walking by some signs. He is facing Chris Jericho who is still a face at this stage. The announcers discuss how Wright's frustration led to this turn after 3 years. To start Wright tries a quick roll up but gets a 2 count. Teney brings up Jericho's tour of Japan recently. He starts off in control with a big shoulder block. But fails in time as Chris delivers a spring board drop kick off the ropes to knock Wright to floor off apron.

Wright takes control with dropping Jericho throat 1st across the ropes. Back in later he delivers European upper cuts and uses kicks n punches in the corner. This small beat down is later followed by Alex deciding to dance like an idiot. Which even Larry is against saying dance after the match. Jericho tries to rally as they both exchange punches but Wright wins and delivers a Perfect plex into a pin which he stops and decides to use top rope after pointing at his brains.

Then in a dangerous spot which really is kinda stupid to do looking back now , Wright comes down off the top rope with a knee and lands square hard on his knee (he has knee pads on but you know it hurt like hell). He manages to loosen his knee and deliver a spinning leg lariat catching Chris. Later Chris tries another rally and is cut off by Wright. Then we see Wright try a body slam but he suddenly falls forward in a sloppy power slam. Has to be knee still bothering him. Anyhow Chris later catches Alex in what seems like a sunset flip into a pin attempt off the ropes.

Alex locks on a sleeper hold to slow the pace . Jericho works it into a back suplex on him. Then seconds later back into another sleeper off the ropes on Chris ! Finally Wright gets frustrated this won't work. Chris rallies back and delivers a thrust kick knocking Alex into ropes , but he bounches back with a clothesline into a pin attempt by him. Later in a cool spot Jericho gets a roll up and nearly another pin attempt.

Later Alex locks in a camel clutch. Some idiots in audience try to start a boring chant that fails. Back up Alex eats a foot to the face in corner and Chris delivers a missile drop kick off middle rope. Teney wonders if Chris has jet lag due to how he's working right now. Later Chris hooks a butterfly suplex into a power bomb pin attempt that gets a 2 count. Chris puts Alex in tree of woe later and delivers a sliding drop kick. Alex later catches him with European upper cut.

Then later as Chris delivers a flying body press off top rope , Alex rolls into a pin attempt and puts his feet on ropes for the cheap win. The referee didn't see it.

After promoting WCW Saturday Night and discussing Madusa putting her WCW career on the line ; Malia Hosaka is out for this match. Hosaka has quite a history and is still wrestling and has been in business 33 years at this point in 2020. Hosaka is also a former NWA World Women's champion (she held it a couple days) . She is facing Akira Hokuto who is managed by Sonny Onoo. Hokuto is coming out in well , a look inspired by Mad Max : Beyond Thunder Dome folks. Its pretty wild to see and kinda scary.

Of course Sonny kills this by stopping to snap a picture like the Japanese tourist deal. Way to kill that vibe we were getting. Teney brings up that she is married to Kasuke Sasaki. The 2 are still married and have 2 kids. Hokuto tries to broker some deal and later jumps Hosaka then throws her in ring by the hair....oooch. Then she does it again outta the corner. Into a suplex by her as she stays on heel offense. Shiavone promotes a huge IMPACT player arriving to WCW on June 30th.

Finally Hosaka catches her off the ropes with flying forearm type smashes and later does a cross body off top rope into a pin attempt. Sonny Onoo jumps up on the apron as Hosaka gets distracted. Then we see Hokuto deliver a brain buster onto Hosaka and gets the win. Then does it again as Hosaka is out. This brings Madusa to hit the ring barefoot as she delivers 3 German suplexes. Nowadays people would do it ala Benoit with rolling German suplexes to keep the sequence going. Then Madusa would slowly unhook get her up and deliver each one.

Gene Okerlund brings out Steiner Brothers at the top of the ramp. Rick claims he's tired of this , they done beat the NWO before. That they won and now its cheap they gotta do it again. Scott brings up being the best WCW tag team right now. This brings up Harlem Heat who come out and proclaim themselves the best tag team and should face NWO. Scott claims they don't need to wait then as all 4 men start a wild brawl on floor. Booker T and Rick Steiner brawl as does Scott Steiner and Stevie Ray. Finally referees and security stop this. Both teams will face each other to determine #1 contender at Road Wild PPV , but will meet on Sunday for that.

Out comes Konan who isn't part of the Dungeon of Doom anymore. He is facing Mongo . Well there goes WCW's decent match streak. Then outta nowhere to save us from a crap match Kevin Greene jumps him. Greene's offense is ...well he clearly isn't a pro wrestler as he delivers off elbow hits. Mongo drops him across the ring railing and security steps in again. Mongo believes its done and as he walks , Greene again jumps him football style.

Doug Dillinger as part of WCW Security has a hard job as he struggles to keep em apart. The camera goes back to ring where Konan is out cold...with a broken broom laying there. Nick Patrick calls it a No Contest as he's out. Patrick tries to help him up. But not even announcers know what happened.

After commercial we hear the music for Hollywood Hogan as he comes out with a white NWO shirt and black letters. Which really I never saw much of in WCW's big days. Bischoff gets down on his knees and starts bowing to him like some god at the ramp as Hogan strums air guitar with belt. Its things like this , that seem small that makes why this heel turn work so good.

WCW does a nice light trick that had to cost some money where the fans appear as a sea of fans waving in crowd. Bischoff claims they love each and everyone of them. He has 2 words for J.J Dillion and Executive committee. BITE ME. No way they force this man into a ring . Hollywood wants to say the 1st thing he wants to do is say hello to his NWO-Ites. If Mr. Luger wants a piece of Hollywood he has to start working out. He's not in shape to beat him , 2 he has no way to beat him. Also another factor he only puts the NWO title on the line. No way does he mess with some loser like him. But he will give fans what they want...as he starts a pose down !

Luger comes out as Hollywood does his epic pose down. As Bischoff goes wild over the posing. The 2 men have no clue Lex is standing behind him. Then they turn as Bischoff is like whoa. Hogan claims maybe Lex didn't hear him back there and came out to see what a real body looks like. No way can he ever beat him in the ring. He best pack his bags and go away before Hollywood smacks him around. Bischoff starts calling him a Hollywood wannabe with his wannabe body and how he doesn't have brains for this etc. Bischoff finally gets shoved by his face away to the ground.

This starts a Hogan/Luger exchange as Lex gets the upper hand quick. Then we see the bell ring as Randy Anderson as referee arrives. We have an impromptu match outta nowhere. Out runs the NWO Wolfpac as they start to cut away but stop as Hogan gets back in ring. Hollywood nails a running lariat as he starts using heel tactics to choke him on canvas and in corner. Shiavone claims they have to go to TV commercial now.

Larry doesn't want it to go to break as the 2 men battle. After the commercial Hollywood has heel advantage with a clothesline outta the turnbuckle on Lex. He does a back suplex on Lex and then a body slam. Hollywood misses a big elbow as Lex is back on charge. He gets a running lariat and big body slam. Up pops the NWO on apron as Luger handles each one. He has the advantage and catches Hogan into the torture rack and starts to rack him. This allows the NWO Wolfpac to climb in as Hogan taps out. They all start a beat down on Lex !

Hogan throws the referee out in anger. They hold Lex for a leg drop as the 2nd hour begins as this beat down happens with repeated leg drops. Fans toss garbage in as Hollywood does repeated leg drops on him. In camera Hogan yells "Hollywood don't take no stinkin prisoners." As Hollywood proclaims as they celebrate if you miss with one , you miss with em all. Referees try to get him out as Hogan keeps leg dropping him. There is 7-8 leg drops as Lex is hurt on floor. On the mic Bischoff questions who will face him and Rodman at Bash at Beach. But as Hollywood claims he'll make it up to Hot Rod. Then we see Bischoff taunt Giant and Lex as Hollywood flexes. Epic pose down after this.

In ring we see J.J Dillion with Gene Okerlund. As chairman Dillion is out after last weeks beating from Savage. He claims he had his bell rung last week , its not the 1st time or last time it will happen. He wants to hold Savage accountable for his situation. So they decided as he pushed the Committee to find Randy Savage $50,000 for this. But they also looked at a possible suspension. But as Dillion claims had they done this suspension they would have likely played into his hands. Because he's done everything to get by DDP. So they added stipulations to this match at the PPV.

It will be non-sanctioned and be a Lights Out match. Falls count anywhere in building , no DQ. Savage is in audience and claims he has $100,000 and claims he has 50Gs for last week and 50 this week for what he does to J.J. Out comes Page in street clothes , calling the Madness big mouth for smacking around an old man. He didn't have the time earlier since he took off. So how about tonight , this is place. Come on right now. Savage claims this is dumbest move he ever made and starts to come through the fans to ring.

Savage comes at the ring as DDP dives out on him as the 2 men start a fight in aisle. We go to commercials as referees pull em apart. After this its been broken up as Lee Marshall decides to promote 1-800 Collect. After this promo we get Jeff Jarrett coming to the ring. Under his name it claims he's with Debra McMichael but she's not coming out which is odd for sure.

Its Dean Malenko vs Jeff Jarrett for the US Title. The belt gets a close up which shows you just how good a design this belt was at the time and now it looks like a Hasbro toy. Jeff tries to talk trash as the match starts and we begin as Dean catches Jeff with a top toe hold as the guys start reversals in hammerlocks. Then we get a Jarrett strut as Dean doesn't care or pose.

Off the ropes seconds later , Dean gets a roll up type move and gets a 2 count . Dean fakes a punch and does a small package type pin attempt. Its going so decent that Jarrett tries a sunset flip into a pin attempt as Malenko catches it and tries his own pin attempt ! After a break outside from a frustrated Jarrett were back to holds and a solid body slam from Malenko !

Debra finally arrives and starts blowing kisses to camera as Jeff takes heel advantage. Back after the commercial Dean works over Jeff in corner with boots. Then seconds later off the ropes Dean is caught in a sleeper. Its reversed into Malenko locking one in as Jarrett does a back suplex to counter !

Both men battle as Jeff gets advantage as Debra starts to get up on apron and back off. Then we see seconds later Jeff catches Dean off the ropes with a big DDT ! This doesn't last long as Dean gets the advantage and delivers an epic suplex holding him a few seconds. Finally in a spot Dean throws Jarrett outta the ring as he does a move and back into ring just as quick.

Back in Malenko locks on a half Boston crab , then grabs his arm to pressure his side and back with his knee ! Later Malenko pulls him in middle of ring and locks in a spinning toe hold. Heenan claims how smart this is as Jarrett likes the figure 4 so he's taking out his leg. Seconds later Malenko delivers an epic drop kick off the ropes ! Then even later off the ropes again Jarrett catches Dean and stops a tilt the world move , into a tombstone pile driver !

Jeff makes it to his feet and signals the figure 4 ! He locks it on as Malenko manages to roll it over in a reversal. Then seconds later on his feet Jeff catches Dean with an epic spinning lariat ! Heenan claims this has been quite the match. Then we get Malenko deliver his under hook pile driver into his set up for Texas cloverleaf. Jeff manages to catch him and rolls him into a small package and nearly gets a 3 count !

The announcers are stunned at how good this is. Malenko reverses a move and tries a back slide into a pin attempt . Then a spinning neck breaker later from Jarrett as its a near fall. In ring even later Malenko makes a mistake to come off top rope with a double ax smash. Its later that we see Jeff deliver a super plex off top turnbuckle. As the referee counts and has his back turned a returning Eddie Guerrero removes his sling and delivers a flying body splash.

Jarrett gets to his feet as he decides to lock on a figure 4 as Malenko is out. He tries to fight it off and we see Jarrett win the US Championship here. Which is sad given how great Malenko was with the title. A weakened Dean slowly stands and sees the arm sling as Jarrett celebrates.

Okerlund is at top of the ramp as Jimmy Hart is out to taunt Chris Benoit. He has been dangling a carrot for Benoit to get Kevin Sullivan in ring so now Jimmy tells him his final step is ahead. Sullivan and Jacqueline come out as he returns. Sullivan gets a pop from proclaiming he's at Fleet Center and that he's HOME , HOME ...HOME AGAIN for the ring. He thanks the people for him being home again in ring.

Sullivan brings up how no one has ever done his fighting for him so he wants Benoit to come out. He tells Meng to not touch him as he claims Chris has taken it all from him and what more can he want ? His soul ? This has Benoit come out as both men reign blows on each other with no backing off. The younger Benoit starts to get advantage as Jacqueline jumps on his back but is pulled off by Barbarian. Meng starts to get involved with his tonga death grip but Sullivan breaks it so he can fight Benoit.

Finally the whole idea of this being a 1 on 1 drops comically as all 3 men and Jacqueline start kicking Benoit on ground as we go to commercial. After this we get the NWO Wolfpac coming to the ring for this WCW World tag team title match. Piper/Flair vs Outsiders. They enter in style for sure. As they play to fans with the NWO signs.

Piper and Flair get taunted by Nash as this starts off quick. All 4 men start to brawl as Piper works over bigger Nash ! Roddy won't stop as he comes at Hot Rod. Things are wild as the referee tries to restore order but finally as we near commercial he gets Flair outta the ring. Back we see Piper being worked over by Nash. With his signature boot to throat in corner turnbuckle spot.

Hall in works over Piper as he Hot Rod fires back. Not stopping as the heels are too big in corner. The double teaming works as Flair tries to help. Nash gets arrogant and gets a ball shot from Piper in a classic low blow. He tags Hall in who tries a sleeper hold and gets a back foot low blow to add. Piper crawls for corner as Syxx goes at Flair where they brawl outside. He gets thrown in as Heenan is like to heck with the tag as the referee allows this keep rolling !

Finally the referee calls for the bell as the NWO Wolfpac lay a beat down on Flair and Piper. The heels are too much even as Piper tries to use the belt on Nash. Finally out comes the rest of the Horsemen to battle. Out comes Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton. In weird moment Kevin Greene comes out after attacking the NWO to go get Mongo. In ring the NWO are beating up Horsemen members left as Mongo and Greene brawl !

The bell keeps ringing comically as the Harlem Heat arrive but are cut off in aisle by the Steiner brothers ! Its so damn crazy out comes Glacier for no real reason. So he starts brawling with Wraith and Mortis ! In ring the Horsemen and and NWO brawl as fans chant they want STING. This entire deal is so crazy that Shiavone and Heenan take off as the booth is being destroyed by Harlem Heat and Steiner brothers brawl. Heenan begs for help as this wild brawl is going on. The luchas have even came out to brawl in aisles for no **** reason !

Out comes the Dungeon of Doom to brawl in this affair. Fans want Sting as Sullivan and Dungeon focus on Benoit to brawl. Then DDP arrives after Savage to brawl. Those 2 come right at each other as the rest of NWO try and fail to stop it. Hollywood sneaks in and catches DDP as they toss him out after a beat down. Then finally the fans explode as Sting drops from rafters. He taunts the NWO outside the ring with bat as they finally try for him as he seems to protect Page here. He beats down Nash , Bagwell and Norton with bat shots and takes off with Page into rafters !

The show ends as the brawl continues ...

The Good : The opening hour unlike last weeks was HOT. I mean its like WCW and Bischoff realized just how bad that last week opening hour was match wise. So he had the Luchas kick it off with a solid opening . There was some botches for sure but things went so fast and other spots was spectacular fans didn't notice much of them.

Then we went to Jericho/Wright where the 2 had a slow old fashioned type match with rest holds and more. Its clear Wright hobbled himself a bit as things went more slower due to him doing a silly move off the top rope. But the 2 men worked through that to do more old school match with reversals and holds. Which a couple people in audience was too stupid to wanna watch.

Madusa had great heat , her nailing 3 German suplexes and yelling at Sonny how she hates him. Her career was on the line at next PPV.

Luger/Hogan had a great exchange where Hollywood milked it all with his heel work. Him and Bischoff really sold this perfect as they pushed Lex into this. Its so good how great the heel work was in this promo and brief match to sell Lex.

The Savage/DDP angle was pretty damn hot and unlike the main NWO storyline was doing a good job to make both men look good. Instead of the one repeatedly.

Malenko/Jarrett was one of the best WCW Nitro matches with plenty of near falls and both men doing big moves at key spots to make it great. The 2 men could have won at any point which sold this match. Malenko was so on fire in 1997 and had elevated the US Championship to a point it was getting defended more than Hogan's title ; he was ranked #1 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated as top wrestler in 500 list.

Bischoff should get props for how quick on the fly his booking was at times. In this he clearly was channeling some classic ECW where the entire roster at times would have an end of show brawl with each other and we'd see storylines converge. Here we saw this wild brawl to end the show which promoted every program that the company was seemingly running on main shows. It was amazing to see this hype for Great American Bash as the wild brawl did just that.

The Bad : The biggest issue was the NWO itself was at a point where the faces who should get and keep heat after something were constantly being destroyed. Lex here had a great moment and should have logically left after his brief exchange and match. But as pointed out years later the NWO kept destroying guys repeatedly and no one looked at all good during this from WCW side.

Malenko was really a star on the rise and WCW with a move here ...well killed it. Malenko was US Champion , was having clinics in ring and had been ranked as the top #1 wrestler of 1997. What is scary is ...this was June when his title reign ended. WCW and Bischoff saw this and decided to never let Malenko flirt with the upper mid-card again. In fact in the 1998 list Malenko would fall to 35th. Yes...he fell that far.

Remember when I brought up how NWO was constantly beating down WCW to a point it made no sense to do at times earlier ? Well here is where things are kinda stupid and we didn't need to see them get DQ'd etc. Flair/Piper would face the Outsiders 6 days later at the PPV...in the same match. For the same title match. And get the same loss with no real payback.

It makes no sense why the company just couldn't book a quick tag team title change to give the WCW side something here. It would be a week sure and your essentially running the same tag team match. This is why a lot complained since the NWO was constantly coming out ahead in these programs...repeatedly.

OVERALL : ****1/2 outta 5. After last weeks dud of a show , Bischoff made sure to fire the brand on all cylinders to start. From a great opening lucha tag team match to a US Championship match that had Malenko/Jarrett display how solid they both were ; the action was on par. The promos and more worked and the show ended with the entire company in a wild brawl to sell the PPV on Sunday. This was Nitro at its peak really , great in ring action and promos.

    WCW Monday Nitro - June 16th , 1997

    https://uproxx.com/wp-content/upload...weet.jpg?w=696

Your Hosts - Tony Shiavone , Mike Teney , Bobby Heenan & Larry Zybsko

WCW Nitro begins with a black NWO limo as everyone piles out in victory mode. Interesting fact is that WWE Network changed the music here to standard NWO intro. Online they actually have the original music of Jimi Hendrix "Voodoo Child" as the NWO arrived. With the group is Dennis Rodman ! Hogan and Rodman smoke cigars and celebrate as kings as the Worm carries the NWO title.

This is the A-Team of the NWO ; Hogan , Syxx , Scott Hall , Kevin Nash and Randy Savage. They decide to come on out to the ring as Hogan strums air guitar. Shiavone informs us were in Chicago tonight. Home of the NBA World champion Bulls. Bischoff claims he has Nothin....NOTHING BUT LOVE for everyone ! Rodman comes in to smoke his cigar and is welcomed aboard to NWO. Bischoff then gets down and does his not worthy deal.

Bischoff taunts how the Giant and Luger want a piece of this at Bash at Beach. Hogan claims that he feels the same way towards Luger/Giant as the Bulls feel towards Utah Jazz. With a 4 time NBA Champion and 6 time rebounding champion , he done called his mother to say they beat em up ! He then plugs how the Outsiders caught him up to speed , to change with times. He is impressed with how good them and Syxx was last night.

That if that no good stinky Giant comes out tonight with Lex , he's gonna let Rodman beat em both tonight. Dennis Rodman gets on mic and gets a cheap pop from home town crowd. He then taunts Giant by claiming , bigger he is and has audience go , harder they fall. He then wants em both to come out. Hogan wants em both to come out as Bischoff taunts em to come on if they want some !

Hogan gets on top rope and acts to taunt for em to come out. They leave as Shiavone , Teney and Zbesko claim how Rodman is a cheap shot artist. They we get discussion of Great American Bash concerning Ric Flair and his disappearance during the match to the back and how DDP lost to Savage in rematch. Also how Madusa lost her career as Larry coins she is now destined...to a kitchen ? WTF ?

The opening match has Mortis come out as we learn Glacier is still unbeaten as no one cares. Glacier continues his win streak but took a beating post match. Glacier comes out full of fire as he catches Mortis down the aisle as they start brawling. Mortis eats security rail . Mortis tries a version of Rollins curb stomp into the ring steps but Glacier stops that and pulls him down and crotches him on them ! Then uses a side kick to face.

Shiavone brings up how savage he's gotten during this battle as Mortis has heel advantage beating him down in corner. Mortis strikes a heel pose to no heat as we see Wraith is down to this. We get a fameasser from top rope by Mortis . Then he signals for Wraith seconds later as the big man jumps up on ring apron. He gets reversed thrown into him and eats a chronic kick for the loss.

Post match we see Wraith catch him as he gets beaten in the corner. Mortis is still down and gets helped up. Both men start working him over. As Vanderberg cheers em on. Then outta the crowd comes Ernest Miller who leap frogs over Vanderberg with ease and delivers 2 big side kicks himself. He strikes his karate pose as he is ready to handle both. Then him and Glacier clear the ring with 2 kicks. For no real reason Doug Dillinger comes into the ring with security as they get around Glacier & Miller.

At the ramp we see Gene Okerlund interviews Madusa. He makes it short n sweet , she wanted a title shot and she lost her career. Madusa looks down and slowly answers that last night was the end of her wrestling career. She is a woman of her word and will accept that its the end. Madusa thanks the fans for making her who she was her entire career. Thanks for the support from her fans , family and friends. In her heart she'll always be a wrestler. Good-bye she loves everyone.

Dean Malenko is out as the ice man looks cold. We get a replay of how Eddie Guerrero cost him the US Championship last week. Malenko gets on the mic and issues a challenge to Guerrero to come out and face him like a man. That its his call . Short , sweet and to the point is Malenkos promo. Instead of Eddie , its Chavo Guerrero who looks determined.

Both men have a face off for a few seconds as Dean is full of anger and starts beating him down in corner. With kicks and throat choke. Off the ropes Chavo delivers an arm drag and drop kick as he's on advantage. Then seconds later Chavo off the ropes does a flying head scissors that almost nearly gets him caught in a tilt the world backbreaker . Nice ! Chavo eats canvas though as he misses a drop kick as Dean side steps n forces him down.

The Ice Man delivers a running lariat in corner. He then starts to work Chavo's knee and leg. No mat wrestling right now as he draps Chavo's knee over the guard rail and drop kicks it. More brawling as he breaks the count to stay on Chavo. Back in seconds later Chavo gets a sunset flip into a pin attempt. But Dean breaks his come back with a punch and delivers an epic suplex. Malenko looks around for Eddie and messes up a pin attempt not focused.

Seconds later a rare both from Dean Malenko as Chavo catches him in what appears to be a tilt the world tomb stone but is reversed as Dean tries him but the weight balance is too much and Malenko falls forward with it in a slam. He then delivers a flap jack pile driver type move. He goes for Texas cloverleaf and locks it on as Eddie stares at the top of the ramp mad. The 2 men stare as Dean walks up aisle to get at him , as Eddie disappears finally. Shiavone makes a point that Eddie didn't seem to want to help his nephew.

After a WCW Saturday Night promo by Shiavone , we get a WCW Insiders for internet fans. WCWWrestling . com is advertised as we see Gene Okerlund with Mark Madden. Yes Mark Madden did the internet show for WCW (WCW Live at one point). Ric Flair is there answering questions.

Super Calo is out for this singles match. Shiavone shows what happened last week where La Parka threw a chair at him and beat him up. On WCW Saturday night this happened again as both men got into it. This is really the 1st real lucha angle that WCW ran between guys. Teney reveals La Parka is the biggest lucha and been working 10 years. La Parka starts off quick and charges the turnbuckle as Calo moves , which has La Parka throw his legs into a drop kick onto the turnbuckle !

This gives Calo the advantage to start but after hitting the corner , he gets caught from a big lariat by La Parka. As Calo tries to rally back he eats 2 big kicks from Parka. This is Calo's 1st trip abroad in his career and 1st real match against him. Calo with some nice arm drags and foot propells him into ropes. Then seconds later Calo gets wild as La Parka is thrown outside against safety railing. He does a suicide dive type splash and the momentum has Calo go into the 2nd row after hitting La Parka as fans cheer this on ! (Shades of ECW really). Teney tries to cover this by claiming La Parka helped throw him over as he landed into crowd (he did not).

Calo is sore for sure getting up slow. Calo seemingly is gonna try this again as I wonder if he'll go for 3rd row this time ! But he decides on a baseball slide as La Parka moves in ring. He later catches him with a lariat. Then in a fun move La Parka catches Calo off the ropes with a foot trip into an elbow drop to the back of head. Then seconds later La Parka gets Calo in turnbuckle upside down in a tree of woe , and flap jacks him in middle of ring !

Seconds later La Parka misses a corkscrew moonsault as Calo is up. He then grabs his mask and whips him across the ring ! Then we see Calo deliver a front huricanrana off the top turnbuckle onto La Parka and gets the win ! Post match La Parka decides to get even and uses an old style plastic chair and smashes him across the head with it. Laying him out as the plastic literally has broken from the shot. Calo is out...

Gene Okerlund is at top of ramp as Lex Luger and Giant is out. Okerlund brings up how Rodman/Hogan want to go tonight and no go at Bash at Beach. Lex counters sarcastically that he's sure Hogan and Rodman will honor their contract at Bash at Beach. Also he brings up how cool Rodman is. But him and the Giant didn't arrive in a limo , they aren't drinking and they don't smoke cigars. They are so confident and so cool as champions. But Hollywood you weren't so cool last week when you were in torture rack screaming how you give up so easy.

After claiming they may just go take it easy tonight as a joke , the Giant yells for Rodman ! That he is ready and he has the choooookeslaaam...so come and get it ! So Lex claims he can translate for Giant as he says , if they are soo easy and such push overs , come on tonight Hogan and Rodman. The match and challenge was issue as we see the Amazing French Canadians ; Jacques Rougeau & Carl Ouellet. They are led out by Colonel Parker who dresses like he joined the French Foreign legion.

The AFC are facing Harlem Heat. Stevie and Booker T talk trash into camera as they are ready. Interestingly the AFC are wearing near costumes that mirror their old WWF look as the Quebecers. Except black front is shown instead of red. Jacques wants these Chicago hillbillies to sing the national anthem , then we see as they start is a sucker job. They jump both men as even Larry is shocked this worked. Booker T is worked over by Jacques. Parker gets some kicks in as Sherri comes over still angry over what happened months ago.

Carl Ouellet is in later in a spot and thrown into corner in a tag move to body splash Booker T. AFC continue double teaming Booker as Jacques holds him as Carl delivers an epic lariat. Jacques takes this time to trash talk Sherri. Then more seconds later as Jacques holds Booker over the bottom rope as Ouellet comes off and throat smashes him with his weight. Then we see Booker duke a lariat seconds later and catches Carl off the ropes with a flying forearm ! NICE.

Stevie makes the hot tag as Jacques acts to extend his hand as he gets kicked instead within seconds. Punches and lariats has Stevie cleaning house. Heat deliver the heat bomb on Ouellet which is impressive given how strong Stevie is to get a much larger man up for it. Then we see Parker has slipped his boot off to give it to Jacques as Sherri runs ...right by Jacques who has the boot by her. She pulls at Parker on apron.

He uses the boot on Booker and gets a near pin fall. Then seconds later Booker and Stevie do the Big Apple finisher and get the win. Post match Stevie yells into camera he told people he was gonna knock somebody out. The Harlem Heat are the #1 contenders as the NWO seemingly set it up for them to get the title shot against them at next PPV.

Gene Okerlund is with J.J Dillion as they bring up the challenge from Luger/Giant against Hogan/Rodman. That match will happen tonight as Dillion informs us. The Heat are there not looking happy as Dillion brings up the #1 contenders tag match at Great American Bash. J.J admits that the victory was tainted as Vincent from NWO helped the Harlem Heat win by DQ. Sherri is angry and claims how they were told if they won , they'd get the #1 contender spot. But Dillion isn't into this as he claims the NWO is trying to manipulate the standings and hand pick challengers.

Booker T steps up and says this sucka is trying to get by them. Okerlund tries to say that people will think they are working together as Stevie claims they aren't working with that fool. But Dillion makes the match , a week from tonight there will be a rematch and winner will become #1 contenders. This has Vincent come out claiming that was courtesy of the NWO as Booker questions if the Outsiders believe they are easier to handle.

Stevie sneaks around as Vincent claims its all about opportunity as Booker and Stevie decide to beat his sucka ass down for this nonsense. The show goes to commercial as Vincent's NWO shirt is ripped off and he takes a beating from both men. Even Sherri gets some boots in on him.

The Wolfpac comes out as Outsiders with Syxx are in celebration mood. Nash is still smoking his cigar as they give hand signals. Syxx is defending the WCW Cruiserweight championship against Rey Mysterio Jr. This is the start of 2nd hour as Heenan joins him. Hall acts to try and scare Rey as he doesn't look scared at all as he finally backs off. They act pretty cool as Syxx does a hand slap with Nash as the match begins.

This is an interesting way to kick off the 2nd hour with them going right into this match. Both men pace around n take stances. Syxx starts taking heel advantage as Heenan really likes Syxx. Off the ropes Syxx throws him into air and tosses him down hard. Then we get the fire works and Shiavone welcome. Syxx is still on control after that and delivers a super quick leg drop ! 2 of them as Hall during this as Rey leans out of the ring , he dumps cigar ashes on him. Syxx does the reverse bronco buster as Rey's tilted neck up. Both Outsiders laugh at him.

Then Nash blows smoke in Rey's face in corner. Seconds later Syxx does a power type near pile driver slam to Mysterio as he climbs up , he misses a front moonsault leg drop deal. This gives Rey a chance and a fun tilt the world into flying head scissors take down ! In a spot seconds later in the turnbuckle corner , Rey head scissors Syxx to the floor ! Then seconds later after faking out Syxx with a baseball slide , Rey does a somersault flip plancha to the floor off the top turnbuckle. Syxx is struggling at this point now as the Outsiders aren't laughing anymore.

Hall & Nash try to distract Rey , as Syxx attempts a flying flip over the top rope into the ring but misses. Rey makes the signal for the huricanrana off the top rope and attempts that into a victory roll pin attempt. Hall & Nash jump in and Mysterio knocks Hall over , and uses him as steps to flying leg whip Nash over the top rope. Then out goes Hall as he gets dumped. This allows Syxx to regain his footing and delivers a side kick. He locks on the buzz killer as Mysterio is out. Syxx refuses to turn loose as the Outsiders taunt.

Then while out Nash gets Mysterio and jacknife power bombs him , as Rey is out of the ring. On the mic Nash claims that its just like Discovery channel , survival of fittest. He found out just like Piper & Flair. And maybe Piper survived last night but makes the kill so much sweeter. DEATH TO AN ICON ! Hall heard so much about those Icons last night , to him it was whatever. Then Hall tells Chicago they are in for a treat , tonight a real Icon is here and its Macho Man Randy Savage ! OHHH YEAAAH.

Savage comes down to ring with an OOOHH YEAAH on the mic. Hall then claims everyone knows Chicago is NWO territory. Mach correct him if he's wrong but if your NWO , your NWO 4-LIFE. Savage claims last night he rocked the place ..oohh yeah. The Wolfpac is cool brotha . He then pays homage to the icon Hollywood Hogan and Rodman in Chi-Town. Hall claims he had to leave the arena early last night sorry to say , but he heard it was a stellar performance ! Ohhh yeah past , present , future...he was on top of his game !

Then we hear in audience DDP who is up in section showing just how crowded and hot this place was. He claims Savage showed last night he just can't get the job done alone and needed Hogan ...twice and now needs Hall. Page claims he made some calls last night since he knows Hall so well , and he got a hold of someone who knows him too. He hints at Sting and issues a challenge for Savage and Hall , a tag team match with his mystery partner. BAAAANG !! Nash yells back that if he keeps running his mouth they will send Rodman after him.

After commercial we have Ultimate Dragon coming to the ring. He is facing Chris Jericho . Shiavone claims that Jericho and Dragon are long time rivals in Japan. In comical spot as Jericho is coming out , up runs Sonny Onoo who shows him an envelope full of cash as Jericho is more surprised at this and he goes to tourist mode to snap a selfie with Chris. Who decides to shove Sonny down and go on.

Shiavone claims this week on Saturday night Jericho will face Syxx for the Cruiserweight title. Now in ring both men start off quick as they some reversals and hit the ropes. Chris wins a shoulder block by throwing Dragon down and does a leg drop. He then does a big suplex. In control Chris locks on a surf board submission hold. Seconds later Dragon is back up and after hitting the ropes delivers his rapid fire kick spot on Jericho !

Again some idiot in crowd can be heard chanting boring . Then we see him deliver a hard kick to Jericho's back. They botch a spot on apron and keep going as Chris does a running spring board drop kick from turnbuckle knocking Ultimate to the floor. Then Ultimate gets up too quick as Chris drop kick is more a drop down onto him with both feet to face and arm...owww. Dragon is in some pain but gets up and back in we go.

    end of part 2

Off the ropes we see Chris catch him coming with a running lariat. Then seconds later Dragon and Jericho battle for position on top turnbuckle. Dragon delivers a half death valley driver onto Chris from that position and goes into a pin attempt ! It was close and and Ultimate seconds later does a huricanrana into a pin attempt. Close count again l. Jericho later catches Dragon as he attempts it again off the ropes and power bombs him , holding on and delivers a 2nd power bomb !

This is close pin attempt as Chris waited too long as Heenan points out. Then we go through sunset flip into various pin attempts by both guys. Then we see Dragon deliver a tiger suplex into a pin bridge. Which gets him the win. We go into a 1-800 collect On the Road with Lee Marshall which ...discusses Little Richard (spooky).

Gene Okerlund is at the ramp as he brings out Roddy Piper. Okerlund brings up what happened last night during Bash and how him and Flair are 2 of the greatest stars in the sport and 2 close friends. They had to have had a misunderstanding. Piper has to start off and clear something up right away , Dennis Rodman you can't borrow his kilt. Sorry as fans boo since its Chicago as Hot Rod claims they can't either. Then Piper gets into the Flair situation where people keep asking , where was Flair. That he was out getting his hair fixed !

But he's been friends with Flair for that long , years. Also Flair its claimed left him to the wolves so next time he'll make wolf slippers when he faces them. So he calls out Flair who comes out bowing. Flair claims he won the match didn't he ? But he was all alone and left to 2 big sasquatches. Flair makes it quick , 1st of all ..he is friend for life. That he is Roddy Piper , the Icon and he'll fight to death with him. But he was fighting with Syxx to the back and continued. Piper accepts that and Flair invites Gene to go party with them.

Next up is Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton who is facing Jeff Jarrett and Mongo McMichaels. Jarrett's pledge to concentrate on himself lasted...1 week. In ring Mongo draws a line with his foot against Norton to dare him to cross. Mongo goes to repeat this and takes some boots and a splash in corner. Norton taunts in camera , this ain't NFL punk , its NWO ! Norton keeps working him in corner and we get a slow bulldog from corner by McMichael and a big lariat clothesline.

In a spot later after a tag Jarrett takes a big shoulder block from Norton as Buff helps work him over. In a spot later Jeff gets out of a running power slam by sliding out from behind and delivers a drop kick to his head. Bagwell is in later and taunts the camera how great he really is. Then after an epic drop kick , Buff tells us all how high he got ! After blocking a pin attempt , Buff poses.

Buff's arrogant act goes too far as Jeff catches him with a good clothesline and then later a swinging neck breaker off the ropes. Then we see Jarrett heel act as he crotches Buff across the bottom rope throat wise. But won't tag in Mongo yet as Buff rallies back and meets a boot to face in corner. Seconds later we see Buff catch Jeff with a running lariat. Then he tries to lure Mongo in with a chest slap but he won't go in. Both heels keep working Jarrett over.

Jarrett rallies back and Buff off the ropes catches Mongo with a punch to the face as that finally brings him in. The 2 double team Buff with a move and Jarrett looks for them both to do the strut together but Mongo hits him and delivers a tombstone pile driver as fans pop. Mongo claims he saw the tape last night and when you mess him over , he leaves you to the wolves. Then after he gets pinned Mongo claims in camera he doesn't care if it was an accident , but you suffer consequences. Jarrett is still out as Debra seems to support him. In ring Buff celebrates like he won the US Championship.

We go to a NWO 4-Life shirt....tooo sweet. This announcement was paid for by New World Order. Now its time for the Main Event. Rodman carries the World title over his shoulder as the 2 men pose and discuss how great each other are. Hogan gets on the mic and claims just like Rodman beat up those babies in Utah , he was hangin with Macho in the back. Ohhh yeah go beat up Flexy Lexy and that stinking Giant. Rodman yells , where you at ? Where you guys at ? Hogan demans they come out as Dennis claims they been waiting for 2 minutes after the commercial break.

That they seem to be wasting their times waiting as Shiavone wonders where the 2 men are at ? Then we hear the Luger music as Hogan freezes stunned. Lex and Giant slowly stalk em as they get back in ring. Once there Rodman reveals his rainbow colored hair as the 2 NWO members huddle up to plan strategy. Each one whispers and they go to attack. Both are cut off quick as Luger gets Hogan alone in corner and in an epic TV spot Giant holds Dennis Rodman by the throat high into the air !

This causes fans to start pelting the ring as they clearly do not wanna see Rodman choke slammed as Hogan cuts it off. Hogan now has Giant's attention allowing Rodman to use the title belt to nail him. This breaks down into a typical NWO beat down segment as Rodman delivers elbow drops ! The fans get so pissed at the non match they pelt the ring in garbage. This after WCW had spent 2 hours hyping it.

The guys spray paint as they let Rodman do it as fans continue to pelt the ring with garbage ! Its insane to watch the anger these fans have at this. Randy Anderson (ref) has to duck and cover from trash hitting the ring. Hogan has the A-Team of NWO with Rodman do a big hug and yells the NWO is for 4-life. The show ends as someone threw a shirt or something that hit Hogan.

The Good : The Malenko/Guerrero program had a good start as we see plus using Malenko to beat up on Chavo to start was a nice touch. The match was pretty solid and showed another aspect of Dean from standard mat wrestler to a guy who could be vicious. It left off on a decent start of things ramping up.

Its weird to see WCW do a storyline with Calo/La Parka here. Because the 2 men have never spoken a word on WCW TV and just having matches that has had La Parka act heelish as we see. This match tonight was wild and a joke was how many botches can Calo do online but here he was ok. He was more at a good pace with an older veteran and it showed. The dive that somehow had him go into crowd was more momentum from outta the ring than botch really , as he hit La Parka and carried over into crowd. Either way it continues their actual interesting feud.

Mysterio/Syxx was quite the surprise and really too short sadly. We got some good work and both men had a nice chemistry involved. You honestly hated to see Rey beat up at the end and hoped he would get some revenge at some point against all 3.

Jericho/Dragon was really good and both men put on some nice moves. Its clear the 2 had worked together before and know how to build and do a solid match. The near pin falls was a great touch.

    The Bad :
How many more matches will we see of Glacier/Wraith/Mortis ? Its like WCW for months has ran this non-heat feud between them. I've lost count of the time killing matches the feud has taken.

The NWO had gotten too big even at this stage as Vincent really added nothing to the group. He came out and took a beat down sure. But at this stage the NWO was already picking up dead weight as Vincent , Scott Norton , and Buff Bagwell wasn't even part of the A Team that arrived as we saw. So why care about the B team here ?

In comical fashion Shiavone hypes up a Jericho/Syxx championship match for Saturday Night but the bookers had Jericho lose leading into that. Just another silly day of WCW booking 101.

WCW had hit a point where they would spend 2 hours promoting a big main event and making it a typical NWO beat down segment which was pissing fans off a lot. Trash normally hit the ring but in Chicago fans were irate to see this promoted tag match become yet another NWO deal. It was one thing to build heel heat but as said the NWO was booked so insane powerful that it made the rest of the company look pathetic. Hell Luger seemingly had a plan and what happened ? A typical beat down alone segment.

OVERALL : *** Outta 5. There really wasn't that many matches to write home about unlike last week. Jericho/Dragon , Mysterio/Syxx stole the show for how good it was. Rodman captured the press for sure and everyone remembers how he was held in air by Giant as pics hit mainstream press of it. But the biggest issue again was , the NWO end segment as Luger & Giant was destroyed for who knows how many times in the past year.

    WCW Monday Night Nitro - June 23rd , 1997

Your Hosts - Tony Shiavone , Mike Teney , Bobby Heenan & Larry Zybsko

We get replays of last weeks show where Giant/Luger vs Hogan/Rodman , where Giant had Rodman high in the air. The announcers with Shiavone act like this is the greatest deal ever as we get a typical post match NWO beating. This one had the fans throw a ton of garbage into the ring as the referee tries to stay down to not get hit with anything. Then we go to the typical intro of Nitro.

Gene Okerlund weirdly introduces to this weeks show from Macon , Georgia . Old GCW territory so should be hot. Okerlund brings out DDP with that WWE music they did since they can't use the old classic WCW music with the Nirvana riff. Kimberly comes out happy to be with Page which if you said a year or 2 ago it wouldn't be seen that way. Page is asked about his surprise partner he brought up. He loves surprises as he details and says at Christmas as a kid , he loves surprises !

Come his birthday , he rips through those presents cause he loves surprises. That Hall and Savage , he can't wait til they see his surprise at Bash at the Beach. Then Kimberly gets on mic and she starts to stumble as she hates surprises. So she decided to contact J.J Dillion and has set up a match for Page vs Hall tonight. Cause ya know she must like seeing NWO beat downs at this stage.

To start the 1st match its...La Parka and Damien. Who isn't doing his Damien 666 deal I guess due to Turner Standards & Practices. In a shock its the Public Enemy they face ! Yes the PE still have jobs in WCW at this point. The PE rock Monday Nitro gear jersey's. Johnny Grunge starts off with La Parka as Shiavone runs down the card. This starts off surprisingly fast as Grunge fakes out Parka in corner and then after some moves , eats a double clothesline from Parka & Damien. Then double elbow drop. This is broken up by Rocco who delivers a big double clothesline seconds later !

Later in a spot La Parka delivers a clothesline and we get a double team spot as the luchas work. Damien then later tries a moonsault and misses Rock completely . He makes a hot tag as Grunge slowly cleans house. So slow in fact he has to time each clothesline. He then seconds later shoves with his arm Damien outside the ring in a weak way. Then the 2 double back drop La Parka as they make the gesture for the table !

They do their classic table spot putting Damien with the front forward splash through table outside the ring. Rocco is wiped out and Grunge is distracted by this. La Parka as the chairman clobbers Grunge with a chair. Then gets the cheap win. Outside the ring La Parka reacts to seeing his partner destroyed through a table.

After a plug of WCW Saturday Night with Scotty Riggs on the show , Gene Okerlund is interviewing Eddie Guerrero. Who makes his injury seem faked. Then we see Gene bring up that Eddie is the one who sent Chavo out to face Dean. Eddie jumps in and says 1st of all , he didn't make Chavo do anything. He is not medically cleared to wrestle yet and Chavo offered for him. That he wanted the opportunity . So he asks Chavo to come out to prove his story.

Chavo starts off with a , I wouldn't exactly say I offered as Eddie steps in. Eddie claims how he loves Chavo as he's blood. So to make it more right for him he is gonna let him have his title shot against Syxx of the NWO. He already cleared it with J.J as Chavo reacts to being told this now. But Eddie sooths him and says he wants him to have the opportunity and they fist bump , plus he will be out to watch his back every step of the way.

Shiavone is stunned at this as Larry claims that is quite an honor. We see Alex Wright come out. Who speaks to camera about caring about Germany and he can care less about America. The company is gonna let Chris Jericho n Alex Wright take another shot at a match , 2 weeks after the one where the 2 had some chemistry issues. He yells Alex , this time is my time. He is all business as he suddenly gets jumped by Wright.

He gets hit with a big shoulder block and then does his hips shake. Jericho is getting frustrated in ring as he finally catches Wright with a flying leg scissors and follows up with a clothesline to Wright , knocking him to the floor. In ring Jericho waits as Wright argues with fans outside as the pace has became a snail now. Back in ring later Alex starts off with some heel control as Chris reverses an arm drag into a firemans carry take over !

Then later in a cool spot , Alex does a side somersault roll and throws Chris down by his hair...oww. Then later off the ropes Jericho nails a flying shoulder block. Seconds later Chris does his running spring board shoulder block , knocking Wright off the apron. Then later Chris waits too long as he climbs up on top turnbuckle and comes off eating a drop kick !

Way later Wright stuns even me at his size by doing a leg scissors take over ! Wright wants to throw Chris out and instead in ring he starts stomping and beating him down. He then does a move where he comes off the top rope with a modified Garvin stomp deal to Jericho's quad. Alex takes the time to heel dance and shake his hips. He keeps doing it as Chris starts to recover. Then seconds later off the ropes Chris delivers the Lionsault ! Into a pin attempt. Then the 2 hit each turnbuckle corner and Alex tries that led scissors take down but Chris blocks and reverses it into the Lion tamer submission ! Winning this match. Finally coming off his losing streak for now. Chris celebrates with fans like he won a championship !

After commercials the announcers discuss the Dennis Rodman situation and the NWO trying to pick their tag team to face. We see clips from Great American Bash where Vincent jumped in ring and cost the Steiner Brothers the title shot. Then the Monday Nitro where Vincent bragged that the Outsiders were happy to face the Harlem Heat and to thank em for the opportunity. Vincent takes a Harlem Heat beat down for that bull crap.

The Steiner's vs Harlem Heat are facing each other to determine the #1 contender to WCW World tag team titles. Scott and Booker start this off as they try each other out with lock ups. Scott releases 1st in corner as a face. Then we see Booker next start to back off and deliver a side kick since he's a heel. Then work him in corner. He later catches him in corner with a boot but Stevie comes over as the 2 heels start to double team but Rick comes over.

Later in a spot Scotty catches Stevie off the ropes with a big super gorilla press slam. Holding him up in air and then slams him. Showing his power. Later , Rick is in ring with Stevie and eats a big kick off the ropes. Seconds later off the turnbuckle Rick catches Stevie with a big belly to back suplex showing that power. Rick is in control til he eats a forearm to neck off the ropes. A tag to Booker has him attempt a suplex.

Rick blocks it and delivers a big one instead to Booker ! Seconds later in a big spot Rick catches Booker who tries a flying body press and is caught into a power slam ! Scott back in later delivers a big belly to belly slam into a pin attempt . Booker can be seen waving for Stevie to come in for the spot to break the count. Then in some great double team moves , Rick back in attempts a back suplex but Booker flips out , lands and kicks him into Stevie who hits him and Booker nails an ax kick to the back of the head !

Stevie in catches Rick and botches a bit of a possible death valley driver but just does a slam and pin attempt. Stevie stays in control as the HH work over Rick in double teams. Him as the face in peril. Booker in a spot does his spinnerooni ! Then tries an ax kick but is suddenly caught by Rick and side slams him epic style. Booker acts like he's out a few seconds. Just epic selling as Rick makes the hot tag to Scott.

Who starts cleaning house with big lariats and then double under hook slam into a pin attempt on Booker ! Now all 4 men brawl in ring . They try their finisher with top rope bulldog. But the Heat cut it off and seem ready. This is until somehow Sherri ends up on apron , where Stevie collides with her. This has him distracted as Rick catches him with bulldog off the top turnbuckle ! The move is kinda...sloppy with landing. But the Steiner's win the match and chance at the titles. Larry brings up the botch and claims it was Stevie trying to catch Rick possibly but momentum carried them down.

Up on the ramp we go to see Gene Okerlund interview the Steiner's post match as Buff Bagwell comes out with Norton. Buff mocks the Steiner's as #1 contenders and then rips Scott Steiner's arms as going through atrophy as he flexes the guns ! This is a set of arms , brothers. Then we see them proclaim a new tag team is a horizon as he coins the team "Vicious & Delicious". Norton coins a weird catchphrase as them not being scared. The Steiner's start to come down as the NWO quickly depart this. Rick yells out they want Hall & Nash ! They issue a challenge , next Monday Night in Vegas. Its here Rick warns them , don't make us come look for you. Scott tells em that next week will be a confrontation as the Outsiders owe them a title shot. Okerlund brings up by winning tonight they get the tag team title shot.

Mike Teney around some happy fans discusses Ernest Miller and him saving Glacier the past couple weeks. We get a special video look of a training session with Ernest "The Cat" Miller. Joe Corley as President of the Karate Assocation discusses Miller's abilities. We see Miller throwing karate kicks and punches. Corley brings up his foot work which is uncanny for a man his size. Tonight Cat will be making his debut tonight on Nitro. Miller was signed more to the fact Eric Bischoff was big into karate and saw him , where he signed him to a deal.

After a plug for WCW . Com , we go to Villano IV vs Hector Garza. A spin kick by Iv opens it as he's in control. Off the ropes nailing a big clothesline. A kick to stomach and neck breaker next. This is Garza's 2nd ever Nitro match , as seconds later Villano tries a power bomb type move as Garza slides out . Off the ropes with arm drags. Then Garza later is elevated and lands nearly on his feet outside the ring from a back drop ! Villano nails a suicide dive there seconds later on him.

Villano stays in control in ring and nails a weird knee lift in a spot off the ropes. Seconds later Garza delivers a flying clothesline off the ropes. Then misses a 2nd one ! Garza is weirdly showing a lot of athletic prowess for a big guy with flips and cartwheels . But each time misses the mark and at one point eats a clothesline from IV. In the corner off turnbuckle he does a forward flip roll , landing on his feet and hitting a back body drop as IV charges him.

Seconds later Garza tries a huricanrana into a victory roll pin attempt. He attempts it again seconds later and eats a sit down power bomb into a pin attempt. IV nails a big power slam on Garza off the ropes and pins arrogant style but Garza kicks out of it as it seems like it was supposed to be a roll up pin where Villano had sit. Seconds later IV misses a moonsault and ends up later on floor.

In a nice set of moves Garza does a suicide dive but misses and lands on his feet on the floor. Then catches Villano in a tilt the world backbreaker right on floor ! Hector makes the sign as he climbs the top turnbuckle and delivers the corkscrew plancha to the floor , nearly taking himself out with IV. They both roll back in as Garza nails a snap suplex into a standing moonsault for the win.

In ring after a commercial Gene Okerlund as he pumps the crowd. He brings out Lex Luger and Giant. Heenan joins us as were starting into hour 2 as Heenan brings up events of last week. Inside 3 weeks from July 13th as Okerlund pumps the match. Lex starts up with the exception of NWO members , Hogan , Outsiders , NWO fans , WCW employees and officials are sickened at what happened last week. That they were told from this moment forward people will be watching their backs. That coming this Bash at Beach they are gonna be on their own.

That for every time he gets knocked out or beaten up , he uses it as REVENGE . That he's looked Hogan in the eyes and he sees nothing there. That he's had Hogan in the rack and he's screamed I QUIT , I GIVE . Luger hits him deep , that Hollywood your a quitter. There is no quitter in his heart or the Giant's heart. The Giant brings up how people tell him he's lucky to be 7'4 , how lucky he's in WCW. But well he's sooo lucky because he plans to put a giant hook in the Worm ! Yeaaahh . As fans pop at that. He also plans to slap both Hogan and Rodman to see how much hair dye comes out both.

Then Lex finishes it saying that their talking will be on July 13th. This finishes the promo as we go into hour 2 for real with pyro etc. This starts off with WCW Cruiserweight match as Chavo vs Syxx . They bring up how Chavo seemed slow to accept the match but did. Hall is out to watch Syxx's back for this match as the 2 men pose by camera. Wolfpac in full glory as they say.

The 2 lock up as Syxx begins with a big head lock and soon off the ropes , Chavo reverses out of a tilt the world back breaker into a head scissors take down as Syxx rolls outta the ring. As a heel Syxx takes control with some kicks. But that doesn't last long with a big flying forearm off ropes by Chavo. Seconds later from turnbuckle he misses a dive which has him crash n burn. Syxx in control delivers a nice side kick , then seconds later trademark bronco buster !

Chavo tries to rally and caught off ropes seconds later with a death valley driver type power bomb by Syxx. He stays in control with quick leg drops. Heenan tries to be a face for WCW but his heel act shines through as he praises Syxx for being a winner . But he wins matches as he tells Shiavone. Then Syxx charges the corner and eats the middle turnbuckle as he tried a bronco buster.

Syxx is slow to come down from corner as Chavo is slow to recover. Then seconds later Chavo nearly catches Syxx off the ropes into a victory roll up pin attempt. Eddie comes out at the entrance way watching his nephew work over Syxx. Then Chavo delivers a running lariat off a back flip from top turnbuckle. Seconds later he does a flying cross body planca into the camera on Syxx on the floor !

Inside the ring as the referee is distracted , we see Chavo not realizing Scott Hall is there. He low blows him and delivers an Outsiders edge to him , laying him out. Eddie meanwhile looks on , with a frown and arms crossed. Syxx locks on the buzzkiller as he is out . Eddie stands there in disgust as the announcers aren't happy he left a man who is his nephew and near brother to the wolves. He says something into camera that can't be made out.

Konan is out next yelling at camera and speaking Spanish into camera . The only word I know is forever and he makes a sign. Then were getting Mongo vs Konan tonight since Bischoff wants to torture us. We didn't get it last week due to Mongo getting jumped by Kevin Greene in the aisle and Konan being laid out. Teney proclaims his career has really taken off , yeah that pushing him on our TV's sure has helped. He gets a US Championship match at Bash against Jarrett.

In comical nonsense Shiavone claims that the US Champion , Jeff Jarrett is on Horseman probation for costing Mongo his match at the PPV. Mongo plays to the crowd and Konan doesn't care and shakes his crotch at them. Power wise he shoves Konan down to start as Konan dares him to do a 3 point stance. He gets bumped down from that. Then we get 2 more 3 point stance take downs and a lariat to the outside for Konan.

Konan is walking him through this and tries a test of power as its a fake out as he kicks and punches him in corner. Konan decides to work the leg out into a rest hold to plot the next spot. Then we get from the ropes into a rolling clothesline spot Konan likes to do. Out from the back comes Hugh Morrus carrying a stick or broom handle. The WCW Security stops this as Konan is distracted. This allows Steve to nail a tombstone piledriver for the win.

We get a vignette of Chris Benoit which is eerie right now to see. Then we get Benoit's gauntlet he ran to get Kevin Sullivan back in ring. How he defeated Barbarian by submission which was wild to see at the time. Then he faces Meng in a death match and made him tap out ! If anything Benoit was going to next level. Finally he gets Sullivan as they brawl on aisle. This is happening at Bash at the Beach.

After a 1-800 on the Road deal , we see Gene Okerlund in ring. He brings out Roddy Piper in his I.C.O.N shirt. Shiavone brings up his big year in WCW as Heenan brings up his career being big as well. The Georgia crowd loves Rowdy as they chant his name big. Okerlund brings up the possible Flair heat which ...didn't WCW already take care of that last week ? Piper is here to do what he does best , Makin Macon ! He's closer to Mr. Freeze than Batman. Roddy Piper has been a little too goody shoes. He's been running on low but now he's running on pure Nitro !

When he's good , he's good but when he's bad ...HE'S BETTER. And he loves himself BAD. Where Piper goes from now on , hell will follow. He is here to clear up some rumors. Last PPV Flair left him alone in tag match so he can catch Con Air home. That he asked Flair if he betrayed him , but he says Flair told him no. That he looked at Flair and his nose didn't grow. He has no reason to believe Flair , his long time friend would do that. Then Roddy makes a sex joke about 2 girls and Flair.
Gene blushes at this one and Shiavone does a OH MY. Flair comes out to ring after the joke. Flair again says his comments from last week , you are my friend and I will stand by your side. That his decision to chase after Syxx was in his best interests , my best interests overall. Roddy claims fans may not believe him , but he believes him. Then Flair brings up how he was handling all 3 while he was having fun in Caribbean with Jenny McCarthy.

Roddy makes a , yeah face. Flair claims that his shirt says ; I.C.O.N. His name says Ric Flair. Don't make the mistake of questioning him here. This brings out Mongo and Benoit. That this was something he was trying to avoid. Piper steps in and tells the Horsemen members this is between him and Ric Flair only. Flair tries to pat Piper down and calm him. Flair then claims its all cleared up , lets go. Mongo however decides to poke Piper and mocks his skirt as Flair is like...uh oh.

    end of part 2

Flair tries to tell Mongo to let it go as Piper brings up he doesn't need to get involved in what his cronies want and mocks Mongo as a big goof. This has Mongo again poke him and brings up NFL and how guys like him wouldn't diss a team captain. Flair tries again here as Piper claims he isn't into someone trying to push him outta the ring as fans get behind Piper here big. Flair wants to go as Mongo stops it. Benoit speaks up and calls him on his lack of spine , which is all Roddy Piper will stand.

He hammers both guys quick as Flair is like Noo , nooo. Then Flair tries to land a blow as its blocked and takes a shot. He begs off in corner as Piper stands there. Then we see Mongo use the briefcase. This has Chris lock on crippler crossface as Flair stomps on Piper and does his strut. As we go to commercial Piper gets paint brushed across the head by Benoit as WCW Security hit the ring.

Glacier & Ernest Miller come out as a team. Miller comes out in karate gear as they do their poses and kicks together. Then they get jumped by High Voltage. Off the ropes both Miller n Glacier use kicks to catch both. Miller does a unique ax kick standing which is wild to see. In a cool tag team spot seconds later Glacier is nearly being rolled into a pin after a sunset flip but Rage made the quick tag and nails a spring board bulldog from top rope !

Both men double team him and perform a double body slam on him. Glacier becomes face in peril awhile as Glacier attempts to rally back. He is cut off and we see up the ramp as Mortis/Wraith and Mitchell (Vanderberg here) watching. A double team move misses as Miller makes hot tag and spring boards into a kick , then delivers some more nice ones. Glacier takes the time to nail a chronic kick to Kaos , knocking him outta the ring ! This allows Miller to do a jumping spinning round kick.

After the win , Wraith & Mortis race to the ring but stop once Miller & Glacier turn to face them. Then we get a vignette of 2 big stars right now...Hollywood Hogan and Dennis Rodman. Its a bet the music was changed to normal NWO theme. Its a b&w clip of the 2 men and how they have been together the past few weeks. We get the slaps that miss a mile on Lex as well comically. Also showing that WCW was selling anything NWO , post vignette Hall & Nash plug a limited edition pin set. Their way of selling stuff is funny and I can imagine it worked.

DDP is out to face Scott Hall in the Main Event . Teney runs down tickets going on sale in so many states as Nitro was this hot to announce shows 2-3 months in advance. Scott Hall comes out as he does his pose as Randy Savage comes out. Knowing its the typical NWO situation. They had no clue Savage was there.

Page has his ribs taped as Kimberly leaves not happy. The fans start a WE WANT STING chant as he does his toothpick spot and gets a slap across the face taunt back. They keep promoting this IMPACT player debuting next week on Nitro in Vegas. Hall starts off in heel control as he works an armbar into a fireman's carry takeover. DDP pays him back seconds later with arm bar moves until Hall concentrates on the ribs.

DDP rallies back and nails an epic atomic drop and punch knocking Hall down. Seconds later as Randy Anderson is distracted delivers a back body drop on Page to the floor over top rope. This allows Savage and Hall to work Page over outside the ring and Hall later throws him into steel steps. Hall tries a pin attempt and DDP kicks out. All while Page tries to rally and gets face planted by Hall to the mat.

In a botch seconds later , as Hall attempts a suplex , DDP reverses and both men weirdly hit the mat. Shiavone claims it was an attempted arm drag take down. Hall is back up as he tries to unravel the bandages around Page , and he spins and delivers a clothesline. Then we see DDP make the diamond cutter signal as Randy jumps in as the beat down begins. Then we see a super back suplex off the top turnbuckle on Page as Randy climbs up.

Then we see Sting in the crowd as he points the bat at them. Both stare in shock as they watch him. Sting however doesn't move and Heenan brings up a good point , he's too far away to help Page right now. This allows Macho Man to deliver a flying elbow drop onto Page as fans toss garbage into ring , angry against this typical end of show NWO beat down segment. Sting finally decides to actually come to the ring to help DDP finally.

Sting stands in ring as he stands over him to protect him. Both NWO members plot and finally as the show is ending , hit the ring as Randy attempts an ax handle off top rope and eats a bat to ribs. Then Hall gets 2 shots as show ends. As the crowd explodes with delight finally and trash stops reigning down in ring.

The Good : Eddie Guerrero's slow heel turn was something to watch and his magic at working a mic was starting to grow. If anyone needed a heel edge that worked it was Eddie Guerrero. By bringing in Chavo as an unwilling lacky in a way family wise it sold things a lot heel wise.

One of the weirdest pushes to see on TV at this stage was La Parka. He never spoke a word and yet was getting TV time and a program with Super Calo. Then he was getting a win over Public Enemy as well. It was one of those moments where the guy had never spoke on WCW TV before and here he was months in as a lucha and getting this. It was wild to see in a good way.

Jericho/Wright II was a better Nitro match than the 1st where the 2 seemed a bit off at times. They had clearly worked likely house shows and developed more chemistry the 2nd TV match we saw. Also how weird at this point was it for Jericho to win a match ?

Steiner's vs Harlem Heat II was just a fun tag team match for all the power moves given. Both teams worked a good tag team match where each one delivered their big moves in perfect spots. WCW really had one of the best tag team divisions at this stage and the 2 top teams of Harlem Heat and Steiner's showed it.

Hector Garza had a solid look (he favored a bit of Bandaras) and cool name , plus was athletic as hell given how he could move. The match at times was weird given all the flips and landings from him . But the match as a whole was pretty solid. The corkscrew to the floor was insane to see.

Syxx/Chavo was another solid match for the show. Its a shame it was too short but a fun one for what we saw. It is wild to think that in 2 weeks Waltman had put together 2 solid matches in a row. The Eddie heel act made this one really at the end as he becoming the Eddie Guerrero we all came to love.

Piper/Flair was a natural to happen at this stage. Of course this is what made things really crazy in WCW. Where they needed their big face groups to unite to challenge the NWO and stand up , they were busy feuding among themselves. When Piper was ON and liked something he clearly was motivated as we saw with promo and reaction.

    The Bad :
By this stage beating the Public Enemy who barely showed up on Nitro was no big deal. The WCW tag team division was so insanely deep this was who they had : Steiner Brothers , Outsiders , Vicious & Delicious (Buff and Norton) , Harlem Heat , Blue Bloods , Amazing French Canadians , 4 Horsemen , Faces of Fear , Nasty Boys and PE. It was 10 deep and then add in High Voltage and some other teams I'm sure. In all the company really could have used the US Tag team titles at this stage to give mid card tag teams something to battle over.

In comical silliness the Horsemen put Jarrett (the only one doing a damn thing in the group) on probation for Mongo losing at a PPV. None of the other guys are doing much at all. But hey , lets get angry at our only actual champion in the group. Thankfully this match with Konan was just a couple minutes to not expose Mongo for how bad he was.

At some point the faces in WCW were moronic idiots. They would have these grand schemes as Kimberly seemingly got her husband a match against Scott Hall. Page however was fed to the wolves yet again and took an epic beat down. A week after Luger/Giant took a beat down. This was becoming a silly trend as we saw where no one was getting any face comeback heat at all...beyond Sting. And its not like Sting needed this at the time.

Overall : **** outta 5. With some solid matches and great programs this Nitro was a treat to watch. In fact who'd imagine La Parka would be getting a push on TV during this time ? The matches were while short very solid to watch. Chavo/Syxx , Garza/Vilano IV and the Steiner's/Harlem Heat were some solid matches to watch. The only failure again was the lack of real thought put into the ending where the typical WCW face was buried to NWO and only Sting could save them.

    WCW Monday Night Nitro - June 30th , 1997

Your Hosts - Tony Shiavone , Mike Teney , Bobby Heenan & Larry Zybsko

Nitro opens with its usual graphics and this weeks show is BIG. Its from Las Vegas and at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Gene Okerlund will kick off the show with an interview from Ric Flair. Tonight we find the super secret Impact player no one knows about. Then we get 2 women carrying a manequin carrying it dressed in a kilt as Piper's music hits. What he's trying to do he starts as the kilt falls off it ; he claims then that Hot Rod called him 12 am last night to make up ! As he told Hot Rod he had 2 live ones and he can have em all night long , and look whats left of him !

These 2 women are best Vegas has 2 offer as fans start a loud Piper chant. Flair puts 1 lady on who questions why they call him Hot Rod ? Flair laughs loud as she finishes , he's definite not Hot. Then Flair claims that when Nature Boys on the scene as fans again chant for Piper ! Ric then claims Roddy stepped across the line last week. That he tried to step across a line telling him how he could wrestle a match. That he's an ICON in Hollywood. That when he comes to entertaining the women and Mean Gene , he's in control of that.

The other lady is asked if Flair is a 60 minute man but is so off , she does a WTF on national TV. The other girl has to step in quick and say more like 30 seconds. Gene quickly brings it back to reflecting Piper as Ric gets down and mocks Piper's legacy with his kilt. That he now lays Roddy Piper to rest. He requests a moment of silence. Gene claims he doesn't think this crowd will allow that. Flair comically has the 2 try and remove Okerlund's suit claiming they are in Las Vegas and will part ..ALL...NIGHT...LONG whoooo Gene ! He quickly leaves as does Flair n company. As the camera cuts away the one girl who saved the segment quick jumps excited .

The announcers bring up Chris Jericho will be defending his new Cruiserweight championship he won 2 days ago on WCW Saturday Night ! Wow...now we come to Juventud Guerrera coming out to face the new champion. This is Jericho's 1st reign as champion. Teney plugs how people can watch the repeat of this to see how Jericho won the title on In Demand.

The 2 lock up testing each other with arm bars and reversals into arm drags. Seconds later Chris front slams Juventud onto his stomach and locks on a submission STF deal into a bridge submission with his knees. Later off the ropes Juvie nails a head scissors take down as he reverses from a tilt the world back breaker into it ! Then we see later Guerrera botch a spring board from the apron into ring as he trips and falls into Chris. They save it quick as Jericho delivers a back suplex on him !

Jericho paces around and poses to fans as Larry calls it out. Then we get a big suplex from him and a 2 count. Then later we get a surf board submission as fans start a weird chant I can't make out. Seconds later Juventud off the ropes catches Chris as he's thrown into the air with a flying head scissors ! Nice spot. In a much later spot Jericho delivers a tree of woe with a baseball slide to face as Chris struts around a bit.

Later we see Chris lock on a back breaker submission as he yells for referee. Way later Chris is caught with a side kick to ribs as Juventud tries his spring board from ropes and BOTCHES AGAIN ! This time he crashes right on canvas as he hits the ring mat angry at himself for 2 same botches. Chris way later tries a big splash into corner and hits ring post and flies outside. While there Guerrera comes running with a flying suicide splash to the floor on him !

In ring Juvie nails his 360 splash off top turnbuckle and gets a close 2 count. Then we see Juvie in a spot try another flying head scissor take down but Chris blocks it into a power bomb , then picks Juvie up and drives him down with another one as fans pop for this. He of course pins late and Guerrera kicks out again at a close 2. Chris climbs up in corner with Juvie and delivers a SUPER FRANKENSTEINER off the top turnbuckle with both men standing. Then he locks on Liontamer submission and its over !

In ring Jericho gets to cut his 1st ever promo with Gene Okerlund. He gets props for winning the 1st title away from NWO. Jericho claims that this isn't a NWO belt , but a WCW one. That its back where it belongs. Out comes Syxx who crashes the parade. Syxx gets in ring and makes a sex joke about him beating something as Chris golf claps for that. That as far as NWO goes , he's still the World Cruiserweight champion ! Then Syxx claims he interrupted him on Saturday and shouldn't be champion. He removes his sun glasses and claims he will give him a shot for the title.

Then he slaps Chris as its on ! Both men roll around on mat as the commercial hits. Then after it we see WCW Security and officials breaking them up. Outside the ring Okerlund has Alex Wright come out and claim that if Gene wants to do an interview , he finishes with him. That for 3 years WCW has been holding him down. That he gets no interview time , no title shots and referees make bad calls against him. You know why ? Cause he's from Germany ! GERMANY ! He claims he is a fantastic wrestler , looks and a great body. Lex Luger has nothing on me.

The next match is up as Dean Malenko is coming out as suddenly he's jumped by Eddie Guerrero down the aisle ! He starts off with heel advantage after hitting guard rail then later ring steps. Teney brings up that Eddie once had a team with Art Barr in AAA and was one of most despised there. The Eddie we saw the past year isn't the Guerrero he knows. Off the ropes we see a clothesline by him on Dean.

Then we get a big suplex as he plays to fans and gets booed. Off the ropes does a flying back elbow on Malenko. Finally Dean catches Eddie off the ropes as Eddie tries a spinning DDT from there. Instead he gets tossed and eats canvas. Dean clears the cobwebs and unleashes full HATE on Eddie in corner with kicks , stomps etc. Later Eddie believes he has Dean and comically charges and gets throw into air and eats the turnbuckle face 1st !

Later Malenko delivers a back suplex. Seconds later a nice drop kick off the ropes. He is punishing Eddie now with a big epic power bomb with a slap across the face after it. Then we get a big backwards type whiplash move on Eddie off the ropes. Chavo comes out to support his uncle. He gets on apron as Malenko gets referee outta the way as Eddie recovers and knocks him into him. A brainbuster and flying frog splash ends it as Eddie wins ! Post match he gets out hugging Chavo as the 2 walk up the ramp together as Chavo tries to clear cobwebs.

Gene Okerlund on top of ramp interviews Rey Mysterio . He is welcomed to the city that never sleeps. Mysterio starts off claiming he's tired of being pushed around by Kevin Nash or his Wolfpac. That 1st he was tossed into trailer. Then he's jumped as he's facing Syxx and gets jackknifed. He knows there is a difference in size , over 7 foot 300+ pounds vs 5'4 in 150 pounds. He has 1 thing he needs to know , he challenges Nash ...TONIGHT. Mysterio claims he has a bigger heart than him. Kevin walks out and laughs about this , claims he will personally autopsy him tonight then.

Mysterio claims he is a Man who will show him what courage is. Nash counters claiming he's been reading too many bed time stories of the Little Train that Could. Then Nash says see you tonight in Spanish as Mysterio is happy. After a commercial Eric Bischoff comes out on his NWO motorcycle. Which makes me wonder if he still has it. He then signals for Hollywood Hogan to come out strumming air guitar with the belt. Bischoff getting on his knees kisses the gold belt as this heel act has Shiavone claim what a disgrace this is.

Hogan rips his shirt to do a pose down. Bischoff starts off saying these people love him as much as he does. Hogan claims that these people love the NWO like the saying , if your NWO 4-LIFE ! He's been around the world dudes and did it all. He's kicked Giants outta buildings , slammed em and his biggest accomplishments lately was destroying a no good stinky Giant. That tonight him and Rod the Bod is gonna sit back and party as they watch Nash , Hall and Savage destroy Luger , Giant and DDP (Pee Pee as he mocks him). The way things are going , they got the momentum brother ! They have it all , the brotherhood is here and they gonna raise some cain and let em loose for a good time !

They mock the Vegas magician and if you mess with NWO your messin with a pack of wolves . Cause do you wanna walk that fine line at close to greatness or do you wanna cross the line and go down in flames. Cause tonight Mysterio is going down in flames dude. Cause he's facing the BIG MAN , the real giant Kevin Nash. Gonna wipe him out. All the brothers gonna have some fun as they take out Luger , Giant and DDP ! He finishes as Bischoff tells him to give the fans the show as he poses down.

    end of part 1

Out comes Hector Garza who has had 2 good prior weeks. That his athletic work and skills was pretty solid. He is facing the TV Champion Steven Regal. His lordship was actually defending TV Championship after weeks. Regal starts off with control in arm bars and good mat wrestling in reversals. Garza and Regal go through more reversals and in a cool spot Regal catches him in a near Boston crab but gets flipped instead !

Regal catches him with thumb to eye and eats some European uppercuts. He then later nails a flying forearm and tries it again missing big. Garza delivers a nice flip over Regal then drop kick , as he rolls to floor. Hector does a baseball slide and attempts a move off apron and does it seconds too late , landing on his feet behind Regal. Then much later Garza elevates Steven to the floor as he acts dazed outside. Hector runs and tries his wild corkscrew moonsault to floor and really doesn't get much , landing more on floor himself since Regal was too far away.

After both men get back in ring , Garza delivers a nice on point missile drop kick from top turnbuckle. He then plays to crowd as he gestures. He then moonsaults from the 2nd rope into a splash but Regal gets his knees up. Then we get the Regal submission as fans boo. Post match after winning he stomps on Garza.

We come back after commercial as Gene Okerlund will interview the Steiner Brothers. Scott brings up 5 months ago Eric Bischoff stripped them of the WCW World tag team titles. That they were told to face every tag team and they did and beat them. Now they demand their tag team title shot. Rick claims he's tired of Outsiders hiding. Then we get some NWO music (the B-Team music) . This segues into A-Team music as its Outsiders with the entire group. With Vincent , Buff and and Scott Norton.

Scott Hall claims he heard those 2 crybabies in the back. They happen to have contracts right here. If they had ring gear on they'd face em right now. Nash claims everyone seemingly wants to challenge em all of sudden. Hall proclaims that everyone in the arena and watching at home came to see them. They are the peoples choice of course. Okerlund has a pen for the contract as Rick & Scott don't even look the contract over as the announcers suggest maybe they should. Okerlund wants to look as Hall tells him he's excused as well.

Hall finally mocks Steiner's over the traffic accident as they haven't been the same since. So he finally lets Gene look at the contract. He discovers that before they can get a title shot they have to defeat Masa Chono and Great Muta ! As Nash claims , they maybe big but they aren't stupid of course. As Hall finishes , were just too sweet with Nash.

We get a WCW Wrestling.com promo with Madden , Jericho back there and Okerlund. Out comes Psychosis , with Sonny Onoo as his manager. No clue when this happened either. The 2 men take a selfie together. Super Calo is fresh from another injury as Shiavone brings up he has had them since coming to WCW. That he just had a dislocated elbow as well.

Both men test each other and Calo does an arm drag type move as Psychosis goes outside. Then later Calo blocks a lariat into that as he dumps him outside. Calo comes out as Sonny distracts him and the heel advantage goes to Psychosis. Later seconds later Sonny delivers some big kicks with a spin kick as referee doesn't see it. In ring way later Calo rallies back and catches Psychosis with a big power slam off turnbuckle.

Way later Psychosis catches Calo on the apron with an enziguri type move to back of the head. Then in a wild move Psychosis comes flying off top turnbuckle to the floor as Calo moves from guard rail. You hear a smack as Psychosis acts to have landed head 1st on it , but doesn't really sell it massive after it. As Calo attempts to suplex him back in , Sonny trips his foot and as Psychosis lands on him for the win.

Post match Calo tries to object to what happened as we see him decide to beat up Psychosis for the hell of it. Out runs La Parka with a new wooden chair who smashes Calo as both start beating down on him. Juventud makes the save as he has Psychosis nail his own partner. Then we get him take him out after it. Then we go straight into hour #2.

We start hour 2 off with Vicious & Delicious (Buff Bagwell & Scott Norton) with Masa Chono. The 3 will be facing Ric Flair , Mongo and Chris Benoit. Teney brings up that this group of NWO is the International group more or less. Jarrett is on Horsemen probation of course. Buff starts out with Flair and does an arm drag with pose down. Flair then does his strut and whooo as Buff ain't happy.

Bagwell is on fire on Flair as he delivers a running lariat and big drop kick. Flair outside is frustrated as Buff poses down. Ric tags into Mongo. Here Buff lures him in to get advantage and tags in big Scott Norton. Who seemingly handles Mongo in corner. He works him over . After a tag to Chono , Mongo takes him back into corner with blows and all 3 Horsemen begin working him over with quick tags to beat down.

Chris off the ropes ducks a big boot and delivers a kick with a snap suplex in fast order ! Chono catches him later with a big boot off the ropes but gets distracted by Flair who gives Benoit time to get up and get back in. A flying head butt later , Chris is distracted as Buff jumps in with a lariat. This soon has all 6 men in ring at same time. Vincent jumps in and gets the team DQ'd as Mongo uses the briefcase to lay into him. Ending this match. Shiavone acts like this was a big win against NWO.

After a commercial we see a promo of Kevin Sullivan/Chris Benoit. Both men are putting careers on the line as this long feud is nearing its end at Bash at the Beach. Then we get to see Wraith & Mortis come to the ring with James Vanderberg. They are facing High Voltage Its rare we see the duo get an entrance with the eerie red music and masks the 2 men have on.

HV is jumped quick as all 4 brawl. Wraith is destroying Kaos and delivers a big lariat and later back suplex . Then seconds later we see a big kick from Wraith. Outside the ring we see Glacier & Ernest Miller. Glacier dares Wraith to face him as he follows outside. Leaving Mortis alone with Rage in ring as he sets up for a death valley driver. But Miller comes off and delivers a spinning rage kick. This has Rage land on him and he gets the win ! Vanderberg swears revenge on both men in camera.

Outside a white limo has arrived as Shiavone wonders if this is Impact player. The door starts to open but closes quick. In behind it is a truck with a TNN logo (Nashville Network folks). We get a funny Bash at Beach PPV promo with Bobby Heenan and Gene Okerlund to start. Then a quick promo of Hogan/Rodman teaming up. After it we go to another 1-800 Collect with Lee Marshall.

Then we see camera pan and its Raven sitting in crowd. Shiavone brings up he's been a champion all over the world , but is he the guy from white limo ? He's not signed with WCW (he was lol) right now. They question if he's DDP's mystery partner. Raven has arrived unannounced and Teney plans to speak to him. Konan comes out to face Jeff Jarrett who is US Champion at this stage.

Konan starts off in control but soon gets hit with a flying arm drag off the ropes and then a lariat later. He then eats some kicks and stomps in corner. Second later in a comical spot Konan goes n slides under Jarrett losing his bandana on the mat in process. Jarrett misses an enziguri seconds later and soon after eats a trade mark drop kick to chest in a sitting position from Konan.

Off the ropes seconds later Jarrett catches Konan with a DDT. Teney points out how silly it was that the Horsemen would not want to associate with Jarrett while he's US Champion. You would think the prestige of it would matter. Later Konan off turnbuckle slips a second but manages to face plant Jeff into mat. He then applies a stretch submission hold as he rolls it into pin attempt. Seconds later Konan delivers a kick and then lariat to Jeff !

Jeff decides to start working on Konan's leg as we see a spot Flair does. This brings out Flair who distracts Konan enough for a chop block on him. This sets up a figure-4 as Jarrett locks it on. Konan reverses at 1st but Flair gives Jarrett leverage after he reverses and he wins. The group joins Jarrett in ring. Post match Flair & Jarrett strut together.

Okerlund brings up Jarrett and his support group. Jeff brings up that the only thing that happened was a bit of professional jealousy of course. He's beaten Benoit , Mongo and Arn Anderson. But this man in ring Flair is the true Icon. That he's a 13 time Champion. That him and Ric has always seen eye to eye. That Flair knows he can style & profile and walk the walk. As shown , Flair gets on the mic and proclaims that Jeff has talent , he's a true star of course but...he's no longer a 4 Horsemen. Even Teney questions this stupid move.

Jarrett objects of course (he's the only guy winning anything at this point worth a damn) and Flair stands firm. That he was only a member cause the Queen Debra deemed him worthy as he was pretty. Debra mocks Jarrett and claims he stinks at the end like a skunk with Horsemen. Jeff gets on the mic and details to Flair , that him or no one has ever told him what he can and can't do. That for this he will be the one who puts him out to pasture then. Flair tells him to not over stay his welcome. Benoit claims that Jarrett tried n tried to conform to the Horsemen , but the Horsemen aren't about conforming , they are unconformists.

We get a run down of what led Rey Mysterio challenging Kevin Nash with the famous lawn dart into trailer footage from 1996. Nash comes out mocking the challenge of course . Rey comes out running , he nails a drop kick on Nash from top turnbuckle to start ! Then a number of quick drop kicks follow , with a spring board into a front roll that finally knocks Nash off his feet !

Rey tries a back slide but Kevin pulls him up by throat into an atomic drop with ease. Kevin smiles and mocks Mysterio for this and then throws him across the ring like a lawn dart. Then he signals and delivers his big jackknife power bomb on Mysterio for the easy win. Then he delivers a 2nd one for punishment and nails the referee. Konan comes out not happy as Nash taunts him.

Konan gets in ring and seemingly gets Nash to back off Rey. Which has Konan comically start beating up Rey Mysterio for no real reason. He yanks on his knee in a submission hold as Mysterio post match is in pain. Clutching his knee. After commercial EMT's wheel Mysterio who has a big leg cast on down the aisle.

Teney decides to speak to Raven who is front row. Mike questions Raven on signing with WCW as Raven answers by spitting on the ground and not caring. Then he's questioned about possibly being DDP's partner. He gets shoved away as Mike gets no answer. Sitting beside Raven is a cop who seemingly is there to be security for him by WCW.

Now its time for Main Event as we see Outsiders with Savage. In some weird thing , Nash is wearing a fake toupee on his head for no real reason. Raven watches this and gives a , nah don't give a crap look. After plugging the NWO limited edition $20.95 pin set DDP , Luger & Giant come out. The 3 men have a strategy session at top of aisle as they slowly make their way to ring.

The WCW guys all slowly get around the ring ready to start this. The NWO all stand in ring ready as we go to commercial. The NWO however seem to hold their own til commercial breaks as all 6 men brawl. Savage and DDP brawl in corner as Luger/Giant take both Outsiders on ! Giant is doing Nash's trademark leg choke in corner. Then later as tide turns Nash does it as well. No bell has rung yet as Randy Anderson lets em all go in a 6 man fight. Soon Savage & DDP are outside the ring and get back in as Savage is in control choking.

Then in a cool spot Giant grabs both Outsiders in an iron claw to start. Holding them like this and delivers a big head butt to both men ! Then we see Hall & Nash stand as Giant charges and both elevate him over the top rope to floor. Hollywood Hogan comes running out and delivers a shot to Giant with the belt. Then we see Luger get distracted by Hogan who later uses the belt on him. Then we get the typical NWO beat down on Page with the entire NWO involved. Them working over his ribs.

They have Savage drop flying elbows on Page's ribs repeatedly as Sting shows up in crowd. Then we see real Sting drop from the ceiling as he clears the ring to save Page. After this out walks Curt Henning as Shiavone & Heenan wonder if this is impact player. Suddenly Raven jumps over the guard rail as Scott Hall turns and says something to him as the show ends.

The Good : Beyond Juventud's 2 big botches in the match , it was a very solid match for what we saw. Jericho displayed some heelish traits in this as he played to crowd and yelled at the referee. He also went to a more submission style showing how good he really is. Jericho could high fly if needed at times , but he also could get on the mat and work a submission style as well. Very solid match.

Guerrero/Malenko was really good for what we got. Both men were ON at this point with good matches and its a shame it didn't go longer. We see Chavo get involved of course as that slow burn angle was happening too. In all a solid match and in ring return for Eddie Guerrero.

Raven's mysterious debut was a solid moment. Where as guys were jumping to join the WCW vs NWO war , Raven gave no answer. He was a misfit who didn't belong as we saw with either side. Doing his own thing.

The mystery of the Impact player and DDP's tag team partner had people debating. Would it be Raven who knew Page years ago who was showing up ? Or was it Curt Henning who tonight made his debut as well. It was a good mystery for the most part as WCW left off with a cliffhanger .

    The Bad :
This was a key issue with WCW even during its golden era of 1996-1998. The company would start pushes for wrestlers and suddenly derail it themselves comically. Hector Garza for 2-3 weeks had been getting a slow push with great move set and more. Then he suddenly faces a TV Champion who hasn't appeared for a few weeks on TV and...loses by submission. The Garza loss cut the brakes on what was an entertaining young worker who was slowly becoming something on TV. Just a silly move at this stage for WCW to do.

The NWO and Outsiders by this point had spent months screwing with Steiner's. They even had stripped them of the tag team belts at one point. So naturally in stupid moves , the NWO had them sign a contract and not look at it. This really made the WCW side look moronic as hell.

Speaking of stupid , this is where we was at with NWO. You couldn't even let the B-Team of guys drop a clean match to the 4 Horsemen in a 6 man tag. It was bizarre on why they couldn't let Norton take a pin or Bagwell. Since again , this wasn't your big stars of NWO. But it was WCW and their decision making process to make the NWO all powerful repeatedly was on full display here.

The Jarrett/Horsemen angle summed up how terrible the Horsemen had been booked as a group at this stage. The group kicks out the member winning anything at this point as Flair wants to satisfy Mongo's wife. It was beyond silly and dumb. When even the announcer questions the wisdom of this breaking the wall it showed just how bad WCW's booking of the group really wise. If this was the Horsemen of the 1980's , they tease kicking Jeff out and then double cross Mongo claiming him and his wife are too stupid to be members. But it was WCW and silliness continued.

Overall : *** outta 5. This weeks show had a couple good matches Jericho/Guerrera , Malenko/Guerrero , and some of Konan/Jarrett. Its just that some of the silliness began to hurt WCW. The 4 Horsemen at this stage was becoming a clown show where the leader cared more about the whims of Debra McMichael than his own group. The best parts of WCW was the debuts of Raven & Curt Henning. More so for Raven who was playing a very anti-social character he had developed well in ECW. Which was miles ahead of what WCW characters were doing.
