You guys all secretly love Billy Walters.

-Pav, who knows Billy is still out there gathering dirt on Norman Osborn...
You were Spider-Man then. You and Peter had agreed on it. But he came back right when you started feeling comfortable.
You know what it means when he comes back

I came in to post this!

Although he was underdeveloped, I think that Billy has worked best in the 'best friend' role so far. Has he even been mentioned since the reboot?

What character works best in the best friend role for Peter?
It is MJ ( she is his confidant) but leaving her out of it. The answer is ( in my opinion). Johnny Storm.

    Great question.

Don't have an answer for you.

My reflex answer for best male friend would be Harry Osborne when he is sane.
But he is not sane very often.

Flash Thompson evolved from high school tormentor into roommate and hang out buddy but they are both secret keepers from each other now so there is an element of deception on both sides ( unless Pete knows Flash is Agent Venom and I missed it).

Pete isn't all that close to either Randy Robertson or Hobie Brown (who you would think he'd have a lot in common with).

That leaves Mary Jane ( the obvious answer as far as Pete's female friends go) his other various exes and Pete's Super Hero friends (who really shouldn't count as they only hang with Pete as Spidey).

You could however, get a bunch of mileage from Carol Danvers hanging out with Pete and his buddies. She is on a whole other level than most of Pete's friends.

What about Jessica Drew and Steve Rogers?

what about them? They aren't his friends, just infrequent team-up partners.

They are friends. The problem with their infrequent interact is the fact that in the Avengers, Spider-Man is never used by Hickman. But with Jessica Drew in Spider-Man's world, I hope that Dennis Hopeless takes the time to develop Jessica's friendship with Peter Parker in the same manner as her friendship with Carol Danvers. And I think that Steve Rogers and Peter Parker have a lot in common. The problem is that no one has ever done a Captain America and Spider-Man team-up adventure.

Johnny Storm definitely. Harry hasn't been relevant in ages (except for when they shoehorn him into movies to be the Goblin instead of his father). Peter hasn't really done much with Flash for a while.

I don't think that Johnny Storm has ever been Peter Parker's best friend.

I would agree with you if we are talking about Spider-Man's best friend. I think that Johnny Storm has been underused for long periods though, he and Spider-Man have fantastic chemistry.

Quoted in agreement, it *has* to be Johnny and I love their banter together (some of their best stuff is in the SPIDER-MAN/HUMAN TORCH mini Dan Slott did a while back)

    Cheers.

Bravo to Vic Vega for bringing up Hobie Brown! I loved when he was used in Sensational back in the day. I could totally see him being someone that could be Peter's best friend both in his civilian clothes and his Spidey costume.

No writers have felt the need to do much with him, though. Heck, I'm pretty sure Dan Slott has professed his love for the Prowler, and what has he done with him?

-Pav, who honestly has a bunch of ideas to make Hobie extremely relevant in Spidey's world...

I really wish Hobie was given more prominence in comics. Loved him on The Spectacular Spider-Man.

If we're veering off best and adding honorable mention for great friends then I'd definitely nominate Franklin as well. Franklin certainly treats Spider-man like the best guy in the world.
    Spider-Man consoles Franklin Richards
Then again Spidey is pretty lovable.
