Sinise read the audio version of Of Mice and Men that I listened to, so I sort of got a preview of the movie. I'm going to see if I can find the Burgess Meredith version you mentioned.

Just finished Caleb Carr's THE ANGEL OF DARKNESS, so I'm now ready for the new show, The Alienist.
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

    Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light.
It's an awesome book. I re-read it every few years and never grow tired of it. Not too long, packed with humor, drama, super powers, Hindu gods, assassins, aliens and epic battles.

During the 1979 Iranian hostage crises the CIA launched a rescue operation posing as a movie crew scouting locations for a film version of this very book. As part of the operation the CIA had commissioned Jack Kirby to produce fake conceptual drawings and set designs. Here's a few of those:

The actual events surrounding the failed rescue mission were the inspiration for the movie Argo released in 2012 starring Ben Affleck.

If you like old B&W movies, you should like it.

I'm on the last 50 pages or Ready Player One, while also still going back to my Complete Conan book when I have downtime at work. The last Conan story I finished was Queen of the Black Coast.

For toilet literature (as in, what I read while sitting on the toilet), I'm currently reading the Thor issue of Archie's Marvel Digest series.

I have a collection waiting to be read in the future.

Not to be confused with literature that should be flushed down one instead.

Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. Its a different writing style than I'm used to. I'm only about 50 pages into it so I'm not 100% sure on how I feel about it yet.

But is Haggard's Quatermain as good as Sean's Quatermain?

Mosses from an Old Manse by Nathaniel Hawthorne

I had to check this out after reading Melville's essay Hawthorne and His Mosses in which he writes:

Already I feel that this Hawthorne has dropped germinous seeds into my soul. He expands and deepens down, the more I contemplate him; and further and further, shoots his strong New England roots into the hot soil in my Souther soul.
Tell us how you really feel, Herman! If that doesn't sell you on a book, I don't know what will.

Major bummer. As a horror writer, he was a huge influence on me.

Barker is one of my favorite novelists, but I've never really enjoyed his short story collections. Not sure why. But I'd read anything he puts out at this point out of loyalty.

I loved the newest book. I believe there are only 2 more books left in the series, it's going to be a wild ride.
