I finished the Jessica Ellicott mystery DEATH IN A BLACKOUT. It's the first book in her WPC Billie Harkness series and it is set during WWII. I enjoyed it overall. You can read what I thought via my Goodreads.com review link.

Starting a new Richard Stark Parker binge. Reading THE MOURNER which is pretty much Parker combined with THE MALTESE FALCON which is cool. I was familiar with the first three Parker books because of the first two Darwyn Cooke adaptations but everything after will be new. I am very much looking forward to it. I have everything up to BUTCHER'S MOON.

Come on…you have to tell us just a bit more.

I guess 2 main possibilities are good….or very good?

I've just started Dune: The Duke of Caladan, the first book of the Caladan Trilogy, by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

I have read all of Frank Herbert's Dune series and so far have read all of Brian Herbert's and Kevin J. Anderson's series of books expanding the Dune universe. I just love the idea that Dune is set in our own distant future. Thanks to the numerous books written by Brian and Kevin, we now know a lot about how the galactic empire of worlds in Dune started from an expansion out of Earth and what became of our planet. I love how this series dissects politics, civilization, religion, commerce, technology, superstition, psychology, and human emotion while telling a rich, multifaceted, fantastical, and emotionally charged story.

This latest trilogy focuses on a time just before the original book Dune takes place. Leto Atreides is the Duke of Caladan and in this book, we are given his perspective on his personal relationships, the current state of the Imperium, and how his station affects each of those. This is a great starting point for anyone interested in reading the Dune series. This book gives just enough information about the Dune universe without being too heavy, explores all the key players in the original novels, which is much needed, in my opinion, and has some nice action.
