I just finished Steven Erickson "Gardens of the Moon." I did not really like it, so I won't be continuing the series. Lots of characters and lots of characters I didn't really like.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Yaa Gyasi books (Homegoing and Transcendent Kingdom) are popular at my library, but I haven't read them.

There's a few Nigerian Americans (Tochi Onyebuchi and Tomi Adeyemi) that have some popular speculative fiction, but I'm not sure if that is who / what you are looking for.
    Awesome! Thank you, guys.

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. I enjoyed the series on AMC, so now I'm finally reading the novel.

Glad to be of some help

I started the year with Pulp, by Charles Bukowski. I'm still in the first thirty some pages, but I can already say it's Bukowski's weakest book I've read so far. It's entertaining, and it works as a satire/homage of detective novels, but the language used in it doesn't work as well as in the novels and short stories starring Henry Chinaski, maybe because in those it felt as a genuine language for the character and the world he thrives in. I haven't gotten the same effect with Nick Belane, the protagonist of Pulp

"I LOVE THE BONES OF YOU" By Christopher Eccleston

An autobiography about the actor dealing with his father's dementia diagnosis.

    "Later" by Stephen King

A story about a young man who could see ghosts and he gets blackmailed by a corrupt cop.

"MY NAME IS WHY" by Lemn Sissay

An autobiography focused on the author's childhood in the British foster care system.

"IF IT BLEEDS" by Steven King

A set of 4 short stories I haven't finished yet.

"Destiny Unfulfilled" by Jim Adan is a good critique of Harry Potter. It's worth a read especially if you want to be a writer yourself.

It's a 157 pages long. Some of it could apply to other franchises .
