Starting tomorrow on my Kindle, I'll begin reading Love Insurance (1914) by Earl Derr Biggers. Abbott and Costello's first film One Night in the Tropics was based on this.

Typical McBain, which means it's terrific. The ending put a lump in my throat, too.

Crazy Like A Fox: The Definitive Chronicle of Brian Pillman 20 Years Later by Liam O'Rourke

It's a biography about Brian Pillman, a wrestler who was ahead of his time but what fascinates me about the book is how it goes into his early life and the zeal of pulling off a big con on wrestling promoters. If you know how that ends then the appeal of this book is seeing how things develop and the seedy underbelly of pro wrestling in the 80s and 90s.

Currently reading Napoleon's Pyramids: An Ethan Gage Adventure by William Dietrich. It's the first in a series of historical-fiction novels that take place during Napoleon's rise and reign. I do enjoy the characters (especially Ethan and Ashraf) and I love the focus on Egyptian mythology but I have had moments where I've lost interest when it becomes too descriptive on mathematics or some other topic like the flooding of the Nile.

Later on today, I'll begin The Thief (2012), the fifth Isaac Bell novel by Clive Cussler.

Since I had previously heard what happened (and already read quite a few later books in the series), the ending didn't quite have the same impact for me (but I still liked the book).

    Now I'm on to

I have been enjoying McBain's thoughts about each book in the later editions, BTW, as well as his changing vision for the series.

Never read it, but I have seen numerous adaptations over the years (the first one being a Hanna-Barbera animated movie from the mid-'70s).

I finally got around to finishing 'The Miniaturist' by Jessie Burton, as I've been reading a lot for my literature review and have found myself not in a reading mood much when at home. I thought that it might be overrated but actually I thought that it was fantastic - although I'm not sure that the nature of 'The Miniaturist' was really discovered in its entirety, but maybe it didn't need to be.
