Less by Andrew Sean Greer, a failed novelist accepts offers for work and appearances around the world in order to avoid going to his ex-boyfriend's wedding. Amusing and poignant.

I'm about half way through it. Struggling to find the time to read at the moment, and my wife surprised me by buying me A Game of Thrones on the weekend, so I'm more inclined to read that now!

The most recent book I read is Princess Holy Aura by Ryk E. Spoor. It's a send-up/deconstruction of tropes found in magical girl series like Sailor Moon that features a 35-year old man becoming a 14 year-old magical girl to save the world.

This is a weird book. Pretty low key without a lot happening through the first 90% and then off the rails near the end.

12 Strong (previously published as Horse Soldiers0 : true military history . Asmall bunch of US special forces soldiers and their allies take on the Taliban. Very informative but each chapter goes on for about a hundred pages so its bit of a struggle to fit it into my reading time.

While I'm here, what kind of books do you DISLIKE? I find child abuse memoirs kinda questionable. Does the more abuse the kid suffers equal better sales?

Right wing 'expert" opinions on everything, "empowered' (re. damaged) porn star memoirs. Others?

Yeah, child abuse and rape stories are not exactly my cup of tea. Right- or left-wing expert books can be hit or miss with me. As for porn-star memoirs...

I started reading today The Age of Reason Begins (1961), the seventh book in The Story of Civilization series by Will and Ariel Durant.

On my Kindle tomorrow, I'll tackle The Czar's Spy The Mystery of a Silent Love (1905) by William Le Queux.
