Books: What have you been reading?

Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James, set in a fantastical pre-colonial Africa, a man known only as Tracker is hired to find a mysterious boy. A highly imaginative and adventurous story with inspirations from African mythology and folklore. The book is written from the perspective of the protagonist and as such is entirely written in a dialect that takes some getting used to. Although the story being told does have a conclusion, it also makes use of a framing device which is sort of left unresolved. A really enjoyable, if emotionally draining read.

I love the Vince Flynn books and since his passing, Kyle Mills taking over the writing has been an amazing combination. I've got an advance copy of the new book that comes out on Tuesday and I'm hoping to see Mills on his new book tour since he's coming to a store that I can actually go to.

On the Kindle front, I'm now reading Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes (1908), the second Lupin book by Maurice Leblanc. It contains the fairly lengthy The Blonde Lady and the short story The Jewish Lamp.

Heh. It is the sloppiest of the novels I have read by him, but I still found it entertaining. FWIW, the ending is worth the effort, IMO.

I've been recommended this book many times. Have to admit I does have my interest.

This is on my list too. I've heard good things.

Word of warning we've been waiting on the next book since 2013, the first two make for pretty good standalones but the third was meant to kick off a more overarching story. And then the author had personal stuff happen and we've been waiting ever since

I'd recommend Glory Road, Starship Troopers or Have Spacesuit Will Travel.

No problem. It is pretty essential, though, as a read if you take on the later (and better) novels in the Lazarus Long universe.
