I think we're missing something here. Just because an author depicts a certain act doesn't mean that author is advocating it. Yes, these acts in King's It and Rice's The Witching Hour are horrifying. These are horror authors writing horror novels. Their goal is to shock the reader. I daresay that scene in question in It shocked more people than the giant spider in the climax (no pun intended).
