Are they tied? The games claim about pulling champions from other realities, all over time and space, has actually proved true. We have two different Iron Mans running around. Colossus, Juggernaut, and just recently Colossalnaut.
It's be great if there were hints laid throughout the game already about the event.

IIRC the spiderverse one is more temple run while contest of champions is more of a fighting game.

Plus Spider-Man Unlimited actually ties in to Spider-Verse. Morlun and co actually invade that universe and tries killing the Spider-Totems there. However, there is a mobile game that will probably tie-in to Secret Wars-Marvel Avengers Alliance. It features incursions, and invasions of multiple heroes from different realities, and the story seems to be building up to Secret Wars as the Incursions become more common.

Unless they start having arenas based on the Battleworld domains in COC it's more of its own thing really. Far as I gather they are mostly Doctor Strange or Asgard based arenas with the odd extra like Stark Tower and the prison from GOTG.
I do wish Marvel would authorise a console game akin to COC, albeit with a lot more polish and unlockables and DLC than the freemium nonsense COC has.
