    I wouldn't even say they're dark and serious from a western POV. More that some comic book fans seem to be very sensitive about content in kids shows, and seem to over exaggerate little things...it's kind of like when people on tv tropes blow up some little thing is a kids cartoon to sound like the worst kind of horror film you've ever heard of.

    If it was supposed to be a parody I think it's fair to say that the producer and the director (and the cast and crew) were not on the same page.
    Not necessarily a conflict. Take Galaxy Quest, for example: it's also a parody/satire of Star Trek, but for a lot of people, it's so well done to the point that it feels more like a genuine and/or spiritual part of Star Trek than several of its own movies, like it was a challenge of quality that the producers decided to take on.

    I honestly never watched Power Rangers like that growing up but after seeing that fan film if the television show was anything like that then I'd be a lifelong fan
