    Default Match an Arch-Nemesis

If you had to match each member of the Bat-Family with a different arch-nemesis, what would be the most fitting set up?

    I'll give it a shot:

    Bruce Wayne - Hush
    Dick Grayson - Tony Zucco
    Barbara Gordon - Calculator
    Jason Todd - The Joker
    Tim Drake - Two-Face
    Jean Paul Valley - Bane
    Stephanie Brown - Cluemaster
    Cassandra Cain - Lady Shiva
Damian Wayne - Ra's al Ghul
    Kate Kane - Alice
    Catwoman - Black Mask

Tony Zucco is a plot device, not a nemesis. The attempt to make him one in Nightwing was just misguided to say the least.

Yeah, I know. But I can't think of anyone who'd be better suited. Blockbuster?

Deathstroke is probably his most arguable. But DC isn't interested in doing anything there, and if DS is going to arch anybody i'd probly be Green Arrow given the show. Blockbuster could be argued, but i don't know. Long story short Dick needs one.

    Ill shoot at a list.

    Bruce Wayne - Joker
    Dick Grayson - In need.
Barbara Gordon - Pre-new 52 Calculator, now it appears to be herself. They tried hard to make it this Knightfall, but that fizzled. Honestly she's another one in need. Personally i say bring back Killer Moth.
Jason Todd - Doesn't really have one.
Tim Drake - Doesn't really have one either.
Jean Paul Valley - He's dead and hasn't been relevant in a long time. So honestly i have no clue.
    Stephanie Brown - Cluemaster
    Cassandra Cain - Lady Shiva
Damian Wayne - Talia al Ghul
Kate Kane - Alice, but apparently shes good now.
    Catwoman - Black Mask

Two-Face was kind of a recurring presence in Tim's solo series. If we're going with Red Robin, then I guess Ra's fits the bill.

Deathstroke was the closest thing for Dick.

James Gordon Jr. was a good attempt. But it wasn't followed up, then Batgirl did her thing with him, and now i don't know.

    Bruce Wayne - The Joker
Dick Grayson - Two-Face (like with Prodigal)
    Jason Todd - n/a
    Tim Drake - n/a
Jean Paul Valley - Order of St Dumas/Biis
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

James Gordon Jr's always made me uncomfortable, and not in a good way. We should be moving away from the "mentally ill villain" trope, not creating new examples of it.

Two Face was basically more Dick's enemy than Bruce's by the end of the old continuity. Between "Robin: Year One" setting up an early encounter, Tomasi's last arc drawing on that history between them to give them an interestingly personal dynamic, and Winnick bringing him in for the villain Dick has to first prove he's the same Batman as before to.... They had a good thing going on then.

These days, apparently the "Grayson" writers are working on a besoke Dick Nemesis - so we'll probably have a new character to factor in this time next year.

You could probably throw Talon in there for another one that failed as Dick's nemesis. Dick's great-grandfather, connection to Haley's Circus, and part of the most successful New 52 story. So you had all the elements to be built up to be a great recurring villain, but just like with the James Jr there was no follow up and the dynamic has gone stale. I think Deathstroke is the closest he will ever get to an actual nemesis, but all that has been flushed away now and I don't think anyone else will come as close. With how comics are set up today I don't think it is really possible to create a new arch-nemesis for such old character.

Couldn't Captain Boomerang be considered Tim's as well? Though I guess everyone would rather forget that story. Also James Jr will probably be considered Babs' nemesis in the New 52. It seems like half her run has been about him.
