Avengers and Captain America would be my favorites. It's been a long time since I've read the Spider-Man and Doctor Strange runs but I remember them being very good.

Nothing that smart promotion and marketing wouldn't have cured.

He really shoulda been let to join JLI at the time. I think he would've done well.

I think that issue was Giffen & DeMatteis poking fun at the fact that they were always refused to use characters by other editors. If you notice, from then until the end of their run they either used characters they created (General Glory/Crimson Fox) or totally obscure ones (Bluejay/Silver Sorceress) as members.

Ye-a-ah. Early on, I asked that Starman not become a member of any Justice League, because 1) he was supposed to be more of a loner character (the way that Spider-Man is, at his best) and 2) I didn't want to him to become part of a sitcom.

His Spiderman run is really good from what I've read(up to Spectacular* Spiderman 59). The Avengers stuff is pretty good but I've enjoyed Spiderman more, maybe its because Spiderman is one of my all time favorites lol

*made an edit, I put sensational instead of spectacular lol

I hope there is some discussion at Marvel to make an omnibus or two of your Avengers run, Mr. Stern.

The first issue that I ever read of Avengers was issue 284, part of the Assault On Olympus storyline. Very fond memories and I have gone back and bought all the issues of the run. It is very good stuff.

The thing with Roger Stern is that when I read something of his, it is at least decent. Don't remember anything that felt badly written. Captain America, Avengers, the West Coast Avengers mini series are all favorites, but in my mind his Spider-man run (from Spectatular to Amazing) stands above all else. It has humor, suspense, mystery, heartwarming and heartbreaking moments, great characterization (I love subtle moments like the last page of Amazing Spider-Man #244).

I love that run so much, it's my 2nd favourite from 80s Marvel (right below Frank Miller's Daredevil, and slightly above Byrne's FF and Simonson's Thor). That should tell you how much I enjoyed it!

    BTW,

THANK YOU for writing the first Marvel comic I ever read... DOCTOR STRANGE #53.

I'm sure, subconsciously, it's become a benchmark that everything I've read since then must measure up to.

Good lord, where do I start...?

    Avengers
    Action Comics
    Superman
    Dr. Strange
    Captain America
    Power of the Atom

And I just started his Spider-Man omnibus - reading these stories for the first time is awesome.
