In the Heat of the Night is my favorite Poitier flick of them all. My brothers and I constantly imitated him as Virgil Tibbs, since we saw the film numerous times over the years. With that said, I can't recall a single performance by him that wasn't at least good.

In addition to his work in movies, some may remember him as Elliot Kupferberg, the therapist for Tony Soprano’s psychiatrist (played by Lorraine Bracco ) on on ”The Sopranos”.
I'm old enough to recall when he was as big a director as they come. Though his star started dimming by the '80s, he made enough fine movies at his peak that it really didn't matter. Pretty good actor, too.

I thought Poitier was wonderful in Blackboard Jungle and A Patch of Blue. RIP.

It was interesting seeing him pop up a few times on the different Law and Order shows playing a Hugh Hefner type guy considered he more or less blamed Hefner for the death of Dorthy Stratten.

Yeah, he loved giving Hef a dig when he could.

Marilyn Bergman, Oscar-Winning Lyricist of ‘The Way We Were,’ Dies at 93

She also wrote songs for the soundtrack of "In the Heat of the Night". Two legends from that movie gone the same week.

How sad. Mr. Saget was born here in Philly, so his passing saddens me.
