Don Sutton at 75 IIRC. The HoFer and Dodger and other's legend a day ago or so. Seems he got missed here. Meanwhile, in a nice touch, the Dodger's gave Tommy Lasorda one last trip around the Dodger Stadium field in a hearse, with current and former Dodgers on hand.

Don Sutton is one of the first guys I can clearly recall having a baseball card of when I was a kid.

Mira Furlan, AKA Ambassador Delenn from Babylon 5, at 65. Not many of that cast are still alive.

Oh hell. That's gutting. IMO, he's still the legitimate all-time HR king. And certainly in the top 5 greatest players of all time. At least he lived a good long time.

He was a great all around player as well as being a slugger. He was also a noble man who handled the oppressive societal pressures with grace.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Agreed. One of the absolute best to ever play and the real HR king.

Legend Hammerin' Hank! Damn that's too bad. The vitriol of an American climate that man had to play through night in and night out is not for the weak. RIP.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?
    You bet yer ass.

Just heard about Mr. Aaron. How sad. And yeah, in my mind, he remains the TRUE home run king.

He went to my school. Which was the first black school in Dallas. I think they still have some of his stuff up in the building. Wonder how are they going to honor him.
The school because it's current model in 1976 years after he graduated.

It's more famous for Eryka Badu, Roy Hargrove, Most of God's Property and Nora Jones.

Not only was Hanks the #1 in Home Runs (and still is, cause Bonds...) He is #1 all time in RBIs, Extra Base Hits and total Bases. With a lifetime average of .305 and over 3,000 hits.

Aaron also had 25 all-star games in only 23 seasons! His total bases number is also quite ridiculous, over 700 bases higher than the likes of Stan "the man" Musial. This is a man who loved baseball and knew what it was all about, never to be surpassed.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.

You know, Arron actually got pretty turned off the sport after all the things he had to endure as he approached the Home Run record. There's a quote in the NYTimes obituary about it.

RIP to Gregory Sierra of Barney Miller and Sanford and Son, (plus a small but memorable role in John Carpenter's Vampires).
