Just got an alert on my phone that Jazz singer Al Jarreau passed away at 76. He was famous for singing the theme song for the 1980's TV show Moonlighting.

Saw him in '75 when he first was breaking. Great voice.

A fellow psychologist and one of the most distinguished voices in jazz and R&B. Sad to lose him.

Yes, so sad to hear of all these recent new year deaths, especially on top of all those who passed in late December.

The other sad thing is that all but 1 death on this page were younger than 85 years of age. In this day and age, living into the 70's is not all that old.

George "The Animal" Steele has gone to that great squared circle in the sky. He was 79:

Today we bid farewell to the planet Earth itself, after the United States entrusts its care to climate change deniers.

Snuka and now the Animal. When I think of him, he's always eating the stuffing from the padded ring pole with that crazed look on his face.

There seems to be some confusion over former wrestler and bodybuilder Nicole Bass. Her death was reported earlier then reports that she was alive but was having life support withdrawn due to brain death emerged. She was a regular on Howard Stern and noted for being 6'2" and 240lbs. She was used as a bodyguard character mainly in WWF and ECW and was 52.

Oh, the planet will be okay...It just won't be compatible with human life for much longer.

I actually saw him live at Nassau Coliseum back in the late '80s. My company had gotten extra tickets for one of those big wrestling events they had at that time and a bunch of us went. I wasn't really into the "sport" by then, but it was fun seeing some of those old guys from my childhood like the Russian Bear.
