Loved him as T.C., but his greatest roles were playing Leadbelly and Sonny Liston. Damn good actor.

It is very sad. A beautiful woman with a more beautiful voice.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Olivia Newton-John, pop singer and ‘Grease’ star, dies at 73

Olivia Newton-John, the dulcet-voiced singer from Australia who became a country-pop, folk-pop, rock-pop, disco-pop sensation in the 1970s, starred in the Hollywood musical juggernaut “Grease” and underwent a sultry makeover with her mega-selling 1981 record “Physical,” died Aug. 8 at her ranch in Southern California. She was 73.

Her family announced her death in a statement on Facebook, noting that she “has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.” Additional details were not immediately available, but for many years she owned a 12-acre estate on the Santa Ynez River near Santa Barbara.

Ms. Newton-John was treated for breast cancer in 1992, and she announced 25 years later, in 2017, that it had returned and metastasized. (She subsequently revealed that she had been battling the disease in private since 2013.)

I just finished The Great Bridge last week and was scheduled to reread Truman within a few weeks (I read The Wright Brothers earlier this year and John Adams and 1776 years ago). One of our great historians, his books read so effortlessly. I loved to hear him narrate documentaries, too. If you still couldn't enjoy history after reading or hearing anything he did, then you never would.

If there were any guys my age who didn't think she was a hottie in her heyday, I never met them.

I know it's a cliché, but her songs were a big part of my childhood and teenage years. I think I liked her early country-tinged songs the best, FWIW.

My cousins and I saw Grease in 1978 and, because movies tended to stay in theaters and then come back again, we saw it multiple times in every city where each of us lived. When I got the news of her passing, I immediately texted them on our group chat. I loved Olivia as much as the movie. As The Darknight Detective stated, her songs were part of the soundtrack of my childhood. RIP.

    For the history books...

The actual song "Xanadu" is Newton-John singing the lead vocal on what is essential an ELO tune.

Looking back, that really should have been more than just a one off.

Here's one of my favorite songs by the late Olivia Newton-John, "If You Love Me, Let Me Know". I defy any male fan of hers to say they never sang along with the badass bass background vocal on this song, because y'all be flat out lying!

That's my favorite, FWIW, with Let Me Be There and Hopelessly Devoted to You missing by a nose.

Lamont Dozier passed away. He wrote, or co-wrote (as part of Holland-Dozier-Holland), something like 18 #1 pop hits and countless more on the R&B chart for some of Motown's biggest stars. He also was a recording artist in his own right.
