Oh wow, we had the "Miserlou" 45 on our Dad's jukebox in the basement. He was working for his niece's husband who had a company that supplied vending machines to taverns, restaurants, etc. And when one got jukebox got "retired" he let my Dad have it.

RIP to a great talent. I hope this country does something about big Pharma and insurance so that you don't have to work until you drop.

How sad. I discovered him, and his signature song, "Miserlou" thanks to Pulp Fiction.

Loved Dick Dale, especially his Pipeline with Stevie Ray Vaughan.

With Peter Tork, Hal Blaine, and Dick Dale, we're losing a lot of 1960s rock 'n roll heroes latey.

Seems like Scott Walker might have passed.

Seriously hoping that one winds up being wrong.

Scott Walker, singer-songwriter, not the former Wisconsin governor:

Indeed. Hadn't even thought to narrow it down.

Had to check with Google since I was more familiar with the latter (via the Politics thread) than the former.

Same here. In fact, though I have known of and enjoyed the music of the Walker Brothers since the '80s, I wasn't familiar with their proper names. At any rate, The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore is an all-time classic, IMO.

The Soul singer and songwriter, Michael Wycoff, has died. Michael was 63. He passed away as a result of pancreatic cancer.

Most of you won't know Michael, but many of you will know the sampled hook from his hit 'Looking Up To You'.

The name Dan Robbins probably won't mean anything to you, but if you ever enjoyed painting by numbers as a child like I had, give thanks to Mr. Robbins who invented this time honored hobby. He passed away yesterday at 93.

My mother loved to do those. Some of them turned out well enough that my Dad found a frame for one of them and hung it in the living room Some of them could be large enough to go over a sofa.

Then for us younger kids, there were the Venus Paradise color by number pencils sets. I don't know if the Robbins had anything to do with those or someone just copied his idea.

The paint by numbers stuff stopped for us when I started switching colors around. My parents though if I wasn't going to take something seriously, I should be doing something else. there was a challenge to remembering that 4 was going to be 6 for this particular painting.

Heh. I was the complete opposite. I was completely anal about that type of stuff. I can remember getting annoyed with my mother over coloring a page in my Superman coloring book all wrong.

As for the late Mr. Robbins, I salute him for hours of pleasure he gave me over the years.
