Although both devastating, as a bigger fan of Will & Grace than Star Wars *dodges tomatoes!*, Debbie Reynolds passing has hit me harder than Carrie Fisher's. Her role as Bobbi Adler may have been relatively small, but she stole the show with every appearance.

I would say about equal for me - both "Leia" and "Charlotte" were important to me as a kid.

Not often, but occasionally a celebrity death will make me struggle with my emotions. For whatever reason, these two have affected me that way. The worst in recent years was Shirley Temple, whom I fell in love with as a preschooler almost 50 years ago. Every time I would see the "TCM Remembers" necrology reel with the pint-size star singing at the end of it, I thought I was going to lose it for good. It's weird how that works, because there were people who died in the past few tears whom I admired just as much, if not more, yet didn't evoke a similar response.

Debbie and Carrie were pretty sudden. That has a lot to do with it.

True, but Debbie was at an age that doesn't shock you when it happens. Carrie was still relatively young that it could be surprising to us.

Debbie Reynolds is one those of a dying breed who were raised and trained in the old studio system like MGM had back then. It was still a practice in the 1950s. The other one that I can think of is Robert Wagner, more known these days for his infomercials.

My mother thought he was very handsome when he was a '50s movie star - still does even today when he pops up on NCIS.

I was watching the Fox movie channel Sunday morning and they had the Prince Valiant movie from the 1950s with Wagner as Valiant. He did pretty well in the broadsword duel with James Mason at the end and I didn't catch many stunt double switches.

That was the first film I ever saw him in (I had seen him numerous times before that on It Takes a Thief back in the early '70s). I thought he was pretty good, but that hair...

No, sorry for the confusion. Just mentioned him as being one of the last of those old school stars that went through the studio system.

Some might say Mariah Carey's career was the last celebrity death of 2016:
