And that very episode was just on last week on one of the cable channels. RIP

It's funny how that episode had two actors that went on to bigger projects. She went on to do M.A.S.H. and Lockwood would be the co-star in 2001: A Space Odyssey shortly after that Star Trek pilot was filmed

Definitely the first time I saw her 50-something years ago. It might be might favorite role of hers, too (I know Hot Lips has her problems, but I have always found her treatment in M*A*S*H kind of mean spirited).

    RIP

Yes I agree. It's cringe worthy today.

I first saw it in the '80s and while it is a great movie in many ways, there is a vein of misogamy running through it (though I hadn't heard of that word forty years ago ). Maybe it's old-fashioned chivalry on my part, but I have also never enjoyed seeing a woman humiliated in realty or through fiction.

I've never seen the movie, myself. My mother tells me she went to see it in theatre and was so disgusted she walked out part way through.

That's very funny, because it sounds like your Mother was the very people the movie was satirizing

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Possibly. She can be a bit of a prude in some ways. (Although she's very liberal in others.) I think it was the misogyny that got to her, though.

I liked her in it, too, but a cutie like her with Rodney? Hey, I tell ya!

Yeah, there were a lot of people back then who might have agreed with the anti-Vietnam War (oops! - I mean, Korean ) sentiments, but still had problems with the movie, otherwise.

Mu own parents were only in their late twenties in 1970, so they could handle it better, though they liked the TV show more (same here, FWIW).

Yeah, Mom liked the tv show just fine, too. (So did I, but I haven't seen it as an adult.)

Eventually they did treat the Margaret Houlian character with more respect in the TV show but I think in some early shows they did prank her.

They did, but without the meanspiritness, IMO. TV Hawkeye and Trapper John were a lot more likable than their movie counterparts.

There was a fair bit of that in it. But less than the average James Bond movie.

I don't really see the Bond films as misogynistic, though certainly pre-"women's lib."
