Just because it works with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver doesn't mean it can be used for Wolverine. Those first two are more a special case.

Who says it cant? You can just focus on his WWII history with Cap and say he has been traveling around the world or something. Wolverine's the character you can get away with not associating him with the X-Men since he already had a colorful history before he met them. The only ones that will be tricky is Cyclops, Jean, etc

I don't mean that it can't work story-wise, I mean it probably can't work rights-wise.

I don't think it was just the money, Jackman could land any major franchise he wants I think it's more the fact that you have three great X-men movies in a row and a dynamite shift in casts the guy can hang around for years to come.

they won't make more money including Wolverine though, and it ups the profile of a competing companys films.
No win for disney.

Yeah, but I don't think the executives at fox would be very happy since they still own the film rights to Wolverine.

Plus, storywise it wouldn't make any sense not to the X-Men brought up at least once.
