Man of Steel' s fight between superman and zod is destruction porn plain and simple.

Regardless of the damage in either the Avengers or Man of Steel, Man of Steel' s city destruction was far worse. New York wasn't a smoking crater, Metropolis is and that isn't fully supermans fault.

You can't compare this to the Avengers because the chitauri are far less destructive. They used ground forces (and flying worm monsters) while the kryptonians essentially humped the Earth into submission which was what a good chunk of the damage in Metropolis came from. Although superman should have gone after the terraformer in the city first (nice job supes) he was inexperienced and underestimated zod.

Btw the movie wasn't that great either. But it was good enough that Dc is making a sequel, let's hope they get it right when Batman and everyone and there grandmother shows up. Also lets hope this doesn't go the way of Amazing Spider-man.

Man of Steel has potential. Let's hope they don't squander it.

Superman went after the World Engine in the Indian Ocean because he was the only one who could get to it and destroy it with any speed. The Metropolis engine was being handled by the military, who had a sound plan to stop it. The plan was to destroy both engines more or less simultaneously. It didn't happen because no plan survives contact with the enemy.

And the Avengers actually CAUSED some of the destruction in New York. Hulk drove one of those leviathans into the city. Far different from Superman having no control over being thrown through a bunch of buildings.

A crappy morale from a crappy father figure, expressing the crappy values of a crappy society. All of that coming from a movie which, by exposing the perversions of a culture without actually denouncing them, ends up glorifying them.

What perversions? What denouncing? What glorifying? You see you can't just try and say any sentence you like to try and seem intelligent and hope it actually fits what you're talking about.

MoS is pretty clear in that it positions Superman as something people can have going ahead, something to believe in. It's clearly shown from the impact he has that other regular people start stepping up to become heroes themselves.

So great Caesar's ghost, what are you even talking about?
    American Sniper

    Not Man of Steel.

They were responding to Lax's assertion that unless they're smacked down then "bad people taking advantage of [others'] restraint and never actually learning to stop", and that "Remember kids, nobody has a right to treat you or others like dirt just because it pleases them and they think you're weak. The instant things get physical defend yourself."

The trucker made his point by tossing the beer in Superman's face and him not doing a thing about it. He could have stopped right there, he didn't. The reason he didn't was because he thought Superman was weak.
Again, after pouring the beer over Clark he goaded him and tried to get a rise out of him, and when he saw the anger he pushed him as hard as he could...and nothing happened to Clark but Ludlow (the trucker) found himself getting knocked back by the immovable object.

And after all that provocation the instant he pushed him Superman should've pushed right back.
And he was going to. Chrissy stopped him and asked him not to. She told him it wasn't worth it.

He went after that one first because he was the only one that could do it.

Even heroism from ordinary people. Perry White and Sports Guy struggling against all odds to save an intern? Perry realizing he couldn't save her and reaching in to hold her hand and refusing to let her die alone?

We saw Superman, inspiring ordinary human beings to rise up and do the seemingly impossible. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is another thing that he's supposed to do, am I right?

4.) no because, that was a act of his choice, not a accident, he had to choose to kill him.

4.) no more people will die at zod's hands ever, to ask for more of a victory is ludicrous.

yes because saving the lives of your fellow soldiers are crappy values.
yes because being free and stable makes for a crappy society
yes because killing to save lives is perverse.
yes because showing a mans life being destroyed and ended by war makes war look good or glorified.

In your opening post, you claim that Superman had no idea where Zod's scout ship carrying the Genesis Chamber would land if he crashed it. The problem with that theory is that unless there's lead filled smog covering everything below, he would see that they're practically over Metropolis when he catches up. After Superman dive-bombed through the hull to confront Zod on the main bridge, Lois was already out of danger. Zod saw Kal's eyes start to fire up and so he pleaded for Kal not to destroy the ship. Superman took out the ship full of Kryptonian embryos anyways as it flew over Metropolis and then smashed into buildings. This is Superman's fault.

As for your sperm analogy, I'm surprised by how you can't even see the problem with it. There's lots of human men who blow their wad with or without sex. The Earth has over 7 billion people on it. In other words, not in danger of extinction if someone blows up a sperm bank. There's no parallel here.

Taking out the ship was necessary.

Same thing with Thor sending that giant flying worm crashing into the train station. That's Thor's fault. But it would have been worse if didn't do it.

Also, calling it genocide is wrongfully equating it with the taking of innocent lives, not to mention that Clark, a kryptonian, is still alive, so if he really wants to, he can have a kid.

Superman also still has the Codex inside his genes. He can figure out a way to use that to restore the Kryptonian race.

but....but....Superman committed homicide and genocide!!! He's a murdering genocidal lunatic that steals things!!!!

Of course, he doesn't know that fact (the codex in his body) just yet...but something tells me that will factor into later stories. Kandor, anyone?

I wonder if Bats is going to refer to the obliteration of downtown Metropolis in the next movie as a prelude to a lecture about how to fight smarter.
