So how are people liking Hobie's current direction?

Well, I did want him to be used more in the Spider-Man books and now I'm getting my wish. I also wondered why Peter hadn't hired him for Parker Industries, and once again, I've gotten my wish. I'm generally happy.
The spider is always on the hunt.
I'd like to see Hobie use the Prowler persona, instead of pretending to be Spider-Man to cover Pete's tracks. I want him to be an equal, not a sidekick. Prowler should be the one who does the stealthy missions for Spidey. After all, he does operate better in the shadows.
It makes sense though. He'd already faked being Spidey, and the elephant in the room about Spider-Man being "the bodyguard" had to be addressed after the Stark comparison made it into the narrative.
Glad to have him back after RYW, Regent not so much.
I prefer him as Prowler, however this is better than him not being used at all. Considering so many members of Peter's once iconic supporting cast have already fallen by the wayside in recent years, I'd hate to see another suffer that fate.
"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."
Do you guys think he'd make a good Hero for Hire?
I totally agree with you on that.
Does Brown work for PI only as Prowler or does he do design/engineering work as well?
It would make sense to me if Prowler does design/engineering work as well.
Actually, that costume redesign debuted in All-New, All-Different Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man before Drivel Gore II (clever name, by the way).
The spider is always on the hunt.

Still is awful to me that he is missing the cloak
He is one of several characters that would have worked really well as part of Heroes for Hire.
Personally I'm glad to see Prowler finally getting some more exposure, I really hope his comic mentions his brother Abe since he's another character that really hasn't had much of a presence within Marvel after the Son's of the Tiger.
