Ben-27 put his body into stasis afterwards to heal and then cloned him.

The implication was that Hobie was killed, but I guess Slott realized that was a poor way for Prowler to go out so he went back on it.

I imagine the plan all along was for the original Hobie to be brought back.

You were Spider-Man then. You and Peter had agreed on it. But he came back right when you started feeling comfortable.
You know what it means when he comes back

    Probably.

Though with the situation being what it is, I would've just made the series starring his clone a just a mini meant to carry for Clone Conspiracy rather then the failed attempt at an ongoing it ended up being.

I did like the ending where Hobie admits how badly he screwed up and that things may never be alright for him, but most of it bothered me.
That dissapointed me as well! It reminds me of the MCU Peter Parker and MCU Tony Stark in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming movie.

At least MCU Peter was still smart enough to create the web-fluid and original web-shooters; he was just operating on very limited resources compared to MCU Tony because he was more "realistically" poor. More respect than Hobie got, which is why I've been hoping for a future animated or live-action appearance that does get to show his own genius. Getting played by Kingpin isn't that much of a shame when you realize Kingpin plays everybody in just about any incarnation, but not being able to make his own suit . . . Yeah, I would've liked it better myself if he'd turned to crime because he couldn't get anyone to take him seriously as an inventor and invest in his work, as a twist on his comics origin.

Retired for now, I think. After The Clone Conspiracy, he needed a long break to figure out what he actually wanted out of life anymore.

To me the character would be an excellent candidate for a "Heroes for Hire" or "Silver Sable and the Wild Pack" series

I could see Silver Sable hiring Hobie now that Parker Industries is out of commission, although Heroes for Hire sounds good, too.
