I'll add to those recommending Morrison's Action run and Pak's as well. Superman/Wonder Woman is ok. I think the Soule stories were a bit better but the recent Tomasi stuff isn't bad either. Tomasi is hitting more of his stride now. He actually had a really great Superman moment in his recent arc that involved holding up a bridge. So without any spoilers, that moment really rang true as Superman for me.

I'd definitely check out the most recent arc of Superman/Batman though. It just finished up, so it's not in trade yet but really put it on your list. The rest of the series was a little too tied up in the Earth-2 series for my taste, but Pak clearly knows his stuff, so you'll probably enjoy it.

I wouldn't recommend Superman Unchained though. Superman seems to become irrelevant to the story about half way through and the ending is just terrible. It starts strong and really has a great Lois Lane, which I really liked. Superman just lifts right out of the story though. I found it pretty disappointing.

On the other hand, Greg Pak recently referrenced some of the towns people from Smallville that were introduced in SFAS, so perhaps it's worth reassessing it.
I was a fan of the Byrne Era. That was the time I started reading Superman on a regular basis. Of course I am one of those nostalgic people who loves the comics of the eighties.
