The first five seasons are fun stuff, barring the very crappy, uninspired portrayals of non-Christian myth/gods and how ridiculously lame demons get despite being initially scary. Takes a nosedive in quality after that.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Seasons 3-5 are the apex of the series. Although there's still great episodes in the latter seasons, they are fewer and far between. If Ben Edlund's involved, however, you can be sure it's quality.

It's still a fun show, for the most part. Jensen Ackles, in particular, makes it worth watching when Dean's not pouting. The guy's hilarious.
