I don't think this sort of "panic in the industry" should really be a surprise. Superheroes are more popular now than they have been in a long time (whether comics are more popular or not is a different issue), so of course more people are going to be paying attention to what goes on with the heroes. Whether their opinions are right or wrong, I don't think anyone should be surprised this is happening.
I'd go with Rodriguez's description of this stuff as embarrassing. It's juvenile "sexuality". It's a 14-year-old boy's uninformed fantasy. It's not about sexy drawings. Adam Hughes doesn't get hit with these criticisms.
And if some of these poses were translated to film or animation, just how laughably surreal it all is would be obvious. The only way it would work is if it were one of those self-deprecating Tina Fey bits where she's awkwardly trying to be sexy, but has no idea what she's doing.
In short, it's inartful. It's poor contextual composition.
They pulled the cover for creative reasons, not because of pressure to do so.
The fact that people did pressure them to pull it doesn't change that. The points raised by those people were considered by DC - and the artist - and upon that consideration, they agreed with their concerns.

Eh, that's marginal. And it seems like people are complaining that she's doing laundry . . . which, uhm, ok. Plus it's a litho, so again, context.
It's not a precise thing, but I still say Hughes is how you do cheesecake like an adult.

Is it wrong that I am hoping to someday see an actual cover published by someone that mocks this cover? You could do it with Deadpool. Or Howard the Duck. Or Groot (wait, no).
That Harley version is hilarious & deserves some applause. Plus, she is more fully covered than all the "controversial" versions that offended the hysteria-prone internet masses.
Frank Cho have better draw normal sized female butts.
