    Default favorite John Ostrander stories

I must confess that I haven't read much from him but I liked pretty mich everything I read by him. I have the Spectre trades and Martian Manhunter trades on my want list. What are your favorite stories from him?

I've only read his Spectre and Suicide Squad (+ the Deadshot mini) so far. I like The Spectre more mostly due to Suicide Squad having crossover, which weakened the series at times.
I've heard good things about his Martian Manhunter, Hawkworld, Firestorm, Grimjack and Star Wars runs. After a long wait IDW started collecting Grimjack but it kind of stopped half way through...?

His DC work is far better than his Marvel.

Pretty much everything he's written (minus his Star Wars because I haven't been able to get into SW since I was a kid). My favorites are his maginificent Spectre run, Grimjack, and Suicide Squad.

He's got some good Marvel work. Blaze of Glory and its sequel Apache Skies, Heroes for Hire...

They collected all the John Gaunt stories. They stopped when it got to the Chaney material, which is still good, but not quite as vital as the Gaunt stories. (Chaney is the reincarnated John Gaunt.)

Ostrander and Truman are planning a new Grimjack mini once Truman completes his King Conan run and a second Hawken mini with his son.

After the obvious - Suicide Squad, The Spectre, Martian Manhunter - I gotta go with Hawkworld and Hawkman.

He made lemonade out of the lemons editorial gave him when they decided to bring Truman's masterpiece of an origin into modern times. His Hawkworld was mostly great, despite some botched attempts to patch up continuity. He made the Hawks world (no pun intended!) his own and introduced some interesting concepts. His wrap-up in the pages of the Hawkman solo that followed was a perfect cap to 4 yrs with the characters, and has been re-read by me a dozen times.

I have read some of his Spectre run which I like very much. Martian Manhunter and the Deadshot mini is next. I will most likely also get the Star Wars Epic when it will be released. I have recently discovered him and been a writer I want to explore more.
