He said that over Havok's speech.

And that's actually what gets to me is that so many comic fans, self included, would easily change facts around to support their causes.

Someone else on Tumblr said something that hit me. They said they disliked the Iceman being gay issue because it just means that being gay is now an accessory. If they can just flip a character's sexuality like that to get people talking, it doesn't mean anything. With 2 issues left, Iceman won't have any meaningful moments about being gay or issues about being gay. He was just gay because it is the popular thing to do now, and it just becomes a hallow strive for diversity.

That's actually what makes me really sad about this diversity push is that it feels like a gimmick now instead of people actually caring. Are people invested in female Thor because they can relate to her? Or are they invested so they can "Laugh at the fanboys tears that they don't have Thor anymore" Why is it that diviserity only matters if it's a popular character that's being affected and not the many other minority or gay characters out there?

Wow, I went off on a tangent there.
As far as the iceman thing many of the people I follow on tumblr didn't like the iceman stuff for the things you mentioned. As far as your last point it comics down to comicbook readers don't try new things so in order to diversify you have to temporarily shake up the popular charater/title. It's an unfortunate nessesity in a failing industry

You act like big guys with epic muscles arn't attractive to women. You act like women being beautiful isn't idealized? Are you saying women don't want to be attractive to men or even other women? Because I know well women like beautiful women too

Eh I'd take a black female charat ether anyway. We rarely get them so Im not gonna complain how it's done. As long as the stories good I'm game.

I was going to say. When have they ever looked like that?

I don't want to be the bad person to say this, but when Marvel started putting out things like Ms. Marvel (which I like) and Fem Thor, they started to attract this audience. The problem is the MCU is not a diverse as the comics and well these people are all about diversity.

Also Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter said recently he doesn't believe in female superheroes getting movies, so expect more if this article circulates.

Don't twist my words. I never said any of that. What I'm saying is comics are meant to appeal to males so men are meant to be the guy they want to be and women are the girl they want to bang

Totally. That is also one of Adam Sandler's best movies. One of my favorite for sure. But then again, I like most of his movies.

You either totally missed the core ideals of Marvel comics or you have been taking in this false narrative for so long that it is now gospel to you.

I had no problem with Cap being Falcon. It fits. I also have no problem with Kamala Khan because she is her own character. Female Thor though? I think that whole book is a joke. 8 issues of "Who is she?!" and Thor going on a mystery hunt, which leads to some horrendous moments like Titania just giving up to female Thor cause "Girl Power" just struck me as insincere. You mean to tell me that Titania, who fought She-Hulk for decades, just goes "WHOSE THAT HOT NEW FEMALE HERO?! I NEED TO WELCOME HER TO THE SUPERHERO GAME!!!" It just feels...so...fake. Like, the entire book just keeps stressing over and over "THOR IS A GIRL NOW!" instead of making her be a good character because THEY HAVE TO HIDE HER IDENTITY THE WHOLE TIME!!!

    Arrrrg!

And what gets to me is there are some great diverse characters out there! The fact that Bendis is going to shit all over Karma next X-men issue is going to make me more mad than ever because it proves she doesn't matter cause "HOT WHITE BOY" is now gay! Or how Spider-Gwen completely overshadowed minority spiders in Spider-Verse like Anya. Hell, they killed off the Exiles MJ Spider-Woman in one panel who was also a lesbian! That's heartbreaking for an Exiles fan! "LOL, you're not wanted MJ. Dead you go! Who cares you were a lesbian. If you were a gay white boy, then people would care!" ARRRG!!!"

I mean, you know who was a character I was really hoping would take off?

Selah Burke! Here we have a black superheroine who would actually jump into fire to save people, even without her jetpack to save her! She was tough! She was cool! She...ended up beaten in Spider-Verse and hasn't been seen since. People barely know her! It's all about FEMALE THOR and all the other propped up franchise diversity heroes!

Don't people get bored of the A-List game? Change out the hero, and then fight through all the villains of that franchise and start over again? I mean, don't you want these other heroes to get popular?

AND DON'T GET ME STARTED AT HOW THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HAVEN'T BROUGHT BACK PHYLA VELL AND MOONDRAGON! Your LGBT heroes were there!!!! WHY ARE YOU IGNORING THIS MARVEL?!

OH RIGHT, BECAUSE ONLY WHITE BOYS BEING GAY MATTER!!!

    Unbelievable!!!

(I'm probably going to get myself banned at this rate...)

I think a key difference is that all female characters (outside of a countable few) are conventionally attractive where as male characters can have some variety in their appearance. You have slimmer guys Spider-Man, short guys like Wolverine, a godlike Thor, and then the ugly ones like Hulk and Thing. Female characters almost always drawn with the proportions of a porn star. It also doesn't help that they're posed like them too.

Anyway. I can see this is turning into a "See? These people ARE terrible!" discussion. I've agreed with some issues in the past, not so much this time. If the worst they're doing is sounding off on Twitter, then eh, big whoop. People react angrily when they're angry.
Yeah, I used to agree with some of that group but lately they've been taking things way too far and it made me take a step back. Outright telling someone to kill themselves is one of those things I'd consider to be taking things to far.
Internet people need to learn that you can not like something and still be a decent human being. I mean, I can spot racist or sexist things in most media, but I'm not going to sit on Twitter all day and tell people to kill themselves. If they actually cared, they would support things that promote their ideals instead of hating everything else.

The thing is, I got a real big monkey's paw wish. When I got into comics, I was screaming for more female heroes to get the spotlight. Like Songbird on the Avengers, or just making all female teams and things like that. But now, it feels like they can't have females stand on their own. They have to be part of this other character's franchise. It just got to a state where almost every female character book is just about "Look how great this character is" instead of telling a great story. Kamala Khan and Spider-Gwen (somewhat) are at least trying to build mythos, but it feels like most just coast on lose atmospheres.

I only just wish that they would push more of the obscure female heroes to the spotlight and not keep going "LOOK! A FEMALE WONDER MAN!"
