Default Breaking Banner at the top of every page

Please can we have a way to get rid of that "Breaking" banner at the top of every page?

Just an X up the top right to get rid of it would do - or failing that, just make the thing stop scrolling every five seconds. It's driving me up the wall having that thing moving in the corner of my eye while I'm using the forum.

    Thanks

There's an [X] in the upper-right of the bar, at least in the browsers I use. It doesn't carry over between browser sessions, but it works for the duration of a visit to CBR.

Are you not seeing those buttons?

I use Firefox, and I see (and make use of) that "x" to remove the banner.

Weird - I had no 'X' in the forum - but then I went to the main site and the X was there - so I clicked on it. Now I don't seem to have the banner in the forum any more.

I guess I was just a victim of some weird glitch.

Hmm. Odd. Well, problem solved, I guess? What browser are you using?

Hmm. Stock Chrome shouldn't be an issue. Are you doing anything different with your set-up, using an ad-blocking extension or something along those lines?

I do have Adblock so that could be the issue. As it is, the banner isn't showing any more so I won't turn Adblock off.

    Default "Breaking" Banner bug/annoyance

About this "Breaking" banner displayed in the forum pages.

I have no issue with the banner itself, the problem is that it is added to the page a while after the rest of the page has already been displayed.

This causes the page content to be pushed down, which far too often causes you to click the wrong link/thread if it happens just as you click something immediately after page-load.

Would it perhaps be possible to have the banner put in place already when the page loads and not added later? The actual banner content could still be inserted later if that is loaded from somewhere else.
