England and France go head to head one last time, settling all old scores from their notorious pasts. No other countries will aid either side.

So, in a military vs military fight (both sides having complete civilian and governmental support), which country would win in a war?

No nukes, of course. To win, either side has to destroy/conquer the others capital city.

Ultimately, probably France, even though they are peer opponents.

France has a larger Air Force and Navy(something that probably has dead British Imperialists spinning in their graves), which means that the British will have a far harder time landing troops or preventing the same from across the English Channel.

England's going to have to call back the Empire for this one.

Although if France brings in it's old territories, things could get pretty crazy.

It depends on:

a) How drunk we are. We're really good at fighting when drunk.
b) When war breaks out. If it's the second half of July or anytime in August the French will all be on holiday. Seriously - everything stops in France for a 6-week period.
c) Who's got use of the military equipment that day. Britain and France did a deal a few years back to share military resources. Even aircraft carriers, I think.

But... bleh. We haven't lost a war against the French for 1000 years and we're not about to start now, dammit! (And there have been a lot of wars between us in that period.)

But what might also happen is that we land on French shores, the French Army arrive to defend the country, but neither force can get past a blockade caused by striking farmers and truckers, so the whole thing ends in an impasse.
