Disney will only allow LGBT representation when its minimal enough that it can easily be edited out of the film for international release.

Disney is putting Mulan on premium Disney+ for 29.99 and in international theaters outside of the Disney+ market Sept 4th.

Crushing blow for theaters which want big releases to bring in customers. But I question whether something like Mulan really is would drive people back to theaters when it has far more family and female appeal. Young men are more likely to go back to theaters first. Whether New Mutants is exactly the type of movie which would appeal to that audience, I'm not sure, but I suspect that the marketing campaign for the Aug 28th kicking off against for New Mutants was using it to toss theaters a bone with something else to show.

Disney's also negotiating with Netflix to sell them a Fox Amy Adams thriller which was supposed to come out in September.

So $30 for early access to a film that will end up free on that platform anyway? No thanks

That's quite expensive. What's the price a theater tickets in USA?

the whole theater expense is much more pricier than $30 and to families this $30 is even a bargain

ticket prices are about $20 near me. Close to $30 or more if you want the Dolby or IMAX.

Most Marvel movies I’ve seen have averaged $25 a ticket.

After what happened with Mulan, I've very little confidence that New Mutants will come out in theaters. This just seems to be a lost year for the entire movie industry. I still hope it happens, but even if it does come out, I doubt there will be much box office. I can't imagine people are eager to pack themselves into a crowded movie theater.

This movie just cannot and will not catch a break.

I believe in the opposite, Disney has decided to put Mulan a movie that was expected to make a billion dollars to D+ instead of moving it's release date while New Mutants still has it's release date and that their current starting marketing it proves to me that the movie is under contractual obligations to be release in theaters.

Also for the latter right now in China RDJ's Dolittle had open with a 5 million dollar weekend 10 days ago and now is at the 10 million dollar mark.

The release date in Germany may have been delayed to September 10th. It was submitted to the film rating board in South Korea, so they're preparing for a release there but there isn't a date. It's probably also September.

There's considerable anger from the theater industry in the US about Mulan. My guess is New Mutant's Aug 28 release date needs to stick because the important release date is VOD for Halloween with a 2 month theatrical window for Disney to at least seem like they care about the implosion of the entire theatrical release model.

Yeah there's definitely some kind obligation to release NM in theaters (Boone has alluded to this). Otherwise, Disney would have tested this V.O.D. model on this lower-risk property instead of with Mulan.

I'm shocked they're going to go for it with Mulan. Yeah, it'll cut their marketing budget significantly and they'll take 100% of the revenue (in N. America) since they'll bypass exhibitors. But still so crazy! A potential billion-dollar franchise! And once it's out, say goodbye to a lucrative run in China.

I really hope Mulan is successful. I have no interest in seeing it myself but I wasn't going to go to the theaters for it anyways. I'm not sure how much Disney plus runs, but $30 for a rental for VOD demands sounds about right to me. That's somewhere between 2 and 4 tickets, taking into account locations, children's prices (if they are still different, I don't have kids so I don't know) and matinee prices if that still exists. I'm very interested to see how this does and if it's a viable alternative for theatrical release movies. If I were really wanting to see a movie in the theater that's probably already close to $30 for me and my partner to go, and then concessions. It would be worth it to me and I'd pay $30 for New Mutants, WW1984 and most Marvel movies, maybe even a handful of others.

I do think that people who honestly thought that if some studio took a risk and did this and were going to use a $20 or less model were only fooling themselves.
