As a society, we should all be thankful that Fox sold out. New Mutants is a small price to pay, though it is painful

No, we should NOT. Disney now controls more than 50% of the Box Office, (I've seen some projections as high as 60-70%) and they have a level of control over theaters and what can be shown that we haven't seen since the studio system (we've already seen it by the ludicrous demands they were able to make of theaters just to GET The Last Jedi). @#$% the X-Men. THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING FOR CINEMA. PERIOD.

Yes, they are banning classic Fox movies from being shown in repertory cinemas.

I don't think it's an outright ban YET, they've just priced the licensing so high that small theaters can't AFFORD to do it, or imposed demands and requirements on which and what type of screens that they're incapable of meeting.

It was Fox's idea to abandon it's first release date years ago before the merger was even getting solid traction as an idea. This film's fate is all on them. They began it. They wrote it, produced it, shot it and cut it. They chose to push it back and try to change it up. They didn't finish it. If it was me, I would just scrap the whole thing and save the NM concepts for a later date(rather than muddy the waters in the Fox/MCU continuity and blow the mutant load prematurely before the X-men are even established in the MCU).
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!

It's a great thing for cinema to have theaters remain open to show their product, which Disney is helping a lot. Ask any theater owner whether they'd rather pay more and get a Disney blockbuster or pay less and get a Sony/Universal/Fox/Warners flop, I think they'll take the former. It's not Disney's fault that other studios produce movies no one wants to see. None of these bombs from other studios is Disney's fault.

People love to criticize success, but it doesn't work here. Large box office share is a function of making movies that captivate attention. Studio market share literally resets every week. Put out a movie people want to see and you get a larger share of box office. It's like the ultimate meritocracy.

That smells like something that came out of the hind end of a bull.

There is NOTHING good about a monopoly, and that's exactly what Disney is creating. And Disney is NOT the only studio producing movies people want to see, but they ARE increasingly in a position of being able to block those other studios from getting them onto screens. That sort of content control is bad for consumers AND creators alike.

That's because you only care about the Marvel stuff.

Everything is Disney unless Paramount or Universal fart something out. It's gonna be ridiculous. Thank God for videogames.

Interesting, but I actually happen to know someone who runs one of the largest movie theaters in our metro and he says that Disney does just as much damage and forces big multiplexes to use X number of screens if they want to show one of their films. So even if a Disney film flops, it's still soaking up half of this guy's screens that he could be using for smaller studio films that realistically could be filling more seats than the spread thin multiple screens showing that massive blockbuster in it's 4th week.

Agreed. This gets forgotten that the original mess was caused by Fox. The question is why they didn't do the reshoots in late 2017 or 2018 and they still could have made their initial release date.

Simon Kinberg said trying to schedule the cast was difficult since they're all doing tv shows. And that probably is true. Game of Thrones Season 8 filmed October 2017 through July 2018 and Maisie Williams filmed the 2nd most days of the cast and was the last to wrap. Stranger Things Season 3 filmed April 2018 - November 2018 but I can't imagine Charlie Heaton didn't have time to go film a few weeks of reshoots for New Mutants. And there should be there's something in contracts about doing reshoots.

Bad thing for cinema, probably. Good thing for the X-Men brand, probably. The film looked ****.

You need to remember that a career actor will have multiple projects in the fire at once. Maisie as an example worked on several projects this year: Tv shows Gen:Lock and Two Weeks To live, GOT, a movie called The Owners, as well as all the humanitarian and work she's doing with her app. Factor in the rest of a young and active cast and you've got to make multiple calendars work before you can even consider rolling more film. Anna Joy's schedule was even more crazy than Maisie's if you see her IMDB. When you're young and hot, you need to jump on gigs or you'll lose them.
