I was expecting Black Widow to be delayed, but I thought that announcement was at least a week away. With whole states under curfew and many places banning more than 10 people gathering it's hard to see how any movie could release now.
Theaters can't stay closed for an entire year. They will reopen. But crowds may be limited. People may be tentative about going back.
The problem is for Disney that their public image can't withstand negative press if there still are outbreaks and they're putting a horror movie into theaters. A24 doesn't have that problem. Disney is Disney. So smaller distributors probably will be able to capitalize.
But that's really to be determined. Things are getting back to normal in China. Some of their movie theaters have reopened, the problem is lack of ticket sales.
Another TV spot
GOD the Demon Bear looks awesome.
no need to start pre-emptively bashing the director and the cast.
So weird... I mean Boone has said on social media that Disney pushed the breaks on advertising and promotions until a new date is booked, then this comes out?!?!?
That being said, this is the coolest trailer yet. Nice to see that Illyana will be using the sword in more scenes than just the one.
Team Yana Bachalo Fanboy Cyclops Was Right
It was probably done prior to it being pulled and for international. There isn't a rating included so it would be an MPAA violation to air in the US.
Deadline has some information on the reopening of Chinese movie theaters - https://deadline.com/2020/03/coronav...an-1202886976/
A slow rollout of new movies seems likely in China. There will be staggered seats and other social distancing in place.
I've heard rumors that one studio is planning on July releases, but that obviously could change depending on what happens. And New Mutants could still end up on Disney+ or Hulu. The lineup of new releases for Disney+ in April is very kid-focused (https://collider.com/disney-plus-apr...vies-tv-shows/). There isn't much for teens and adults.
New Mutants just needs to be released on Disney+. Or like others said Hulu. No need to keep delaying and going back and forth. Release it April 2nd on the streaming service and be done with it
Even if that was set in stone in the original contract, worldwide panic is more than enough to trigger the ‘unforeseen act of god’ clause.
The reason why Disney hasn't streamed New Mutants is probably because of the 20th Century Fox's deal with HBO runs through 2022. So the Mouse probably couldn't put NM on their own streamer without first buying out AT&T's rights.
Well Wonder Woman just moved it's release date to August 14 instead of June.

Maybe New Mutants can find a spot somewhere in June?
