there is this thing in the series called "dead languages", languages that have great power and affections but no one can really read them. putting these words on a person can grant different effects from super speed to immortality. sayuri, being unable to read them, decides to just say "fuck it! let's tat up these kids with random ass symbols and see what happens!". thousand of children were tortured with these tats to understand what combo of words do what. on one kid, a 10 year old boy, they found that his combo could create a pocket space in his arms. unsure what combo of words did it, sayuri just had his arms cut on and replaced her own with them.
