Finally read the issue. Agreed that Laura’s voice is a bit off, more than I was hoping. She quipped too much and phrases like “you think?” And “holy cow” don’t ring true to her character to me. That being said, she still had a good degree of formality that felt more authentic Laura. So far I’m finding Tamaki’s Laura to be more engaging than I ever found Taylor’s. I always felt like Taylor’s Laura was bland and upstaged by Gabby, but it was not the case here. Laura held her own and Gabby still manages to shine without stealing or derailing every scene. The story with the Cuckoos has my interest, too. Overall a great first issue and I’m looking forward to the next one.

my first thought was, "Like when Hermoine started calling HERSELF a Mudblood!"

The 'weird' comment was the one that especially threw my for a loop, because A) I don't really see her as being judgmental towards others behaviors and B) Laura used to regularly watch Hellion sleep...If there was ever any character that didn't quite understand social norms it's kind of Laura, lol.

Now she sounds like almost every female teen to twenty year old character out there. I will say Taylor's and Mariko's aren't awful, not compared to Bendis or Hopeless, just really bland and generic.

I do understand people's argument that Laura's grown as a character and her voice may have changed from more interaction with her peers and Gabby; but from a selling standpoint I would think Marvel would be better off having her be very different.

I am excited to see Mariko's development with Gabby, however.
    spoilers:
I think we'll finally see somewhat how Gabby feels about being a clone; since it was kind of hinted at with the birthday argument that Laura isn't really thinking about how Gabby might feel about her own birthday and personhood. It'll be interesting to see if Gabby goes through her own struggle, similar to Laura questioning if she had a soul in Liu's series.
    end of spoilers
Indeed what's rare should well in theory bring in lots of money than what's common.

Tom Taylor just tweeted he's announcing some Laura news today, I think it will be why she's going by x23

    It's just a statue.
    Context is king.

X-23's most basic surface level characteristic that any idiot should grasp: Stoicism.
I don't demand that her every minor appearance be a nuance in-depth examination of her character, but is it to much to ask she be written in Archetype?! This is storytelling 101! If you want people to stay invested in a character, you need to, at the bare minimum, write them such a way that they can plausibly be believed to be the same character!

Why couldn't it be a comic?

    Yeah, just saw the update.

I mean that's cool and all, but not exactly worth the hype and buildup.

Also, forget the damn statues. I want a Hot Toys 1/6 figure already. >:-P

Thought the first issue was pretty groovy. Thought it was funny Laura has a Wolverine telephone in her apartment.

X-23 #1 is just a really excellent comic, top-to-bottom. Standout writing in how intriguing it already is and how it engages with the X-universe, fantastic art from technical and humour/personality perspectives, spot-on colouring and some brilliant lettering touches. I am excited, this is an assured first step carrying on from ANW.

Lots of potential angles for a big villain too, be it the Cuckoos or an evil scientist/organisation etc etc. Could even go for an non-X villain like the Jackal or something, if they're focusing on clones. It could be quite the story - a saga if you will!

So it seems that Extermination is indeed heading towards sending the O5 back where they belong.

I guess it's academic at this point whether Laura is still with Warren, 'cause that's gonna be a pretty definitive nail in the coffin.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it never gets officially addressed, either. Their relationship seems to be an afterthought to most writers.

Yeah, it kinda phased out of the X-23-centric stuff. It seems like there should be some kind of official closure though.
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."

The way it was written, can you really blame them?
